Savage Hart Farm’s owner/operators – Peggy and Todd Allen – share a vision to turn a beautiful post and beam 4-bedroom home on 32 acres into a working farm with a vacation rental apartment. We moved onto the farm in July of 2012, and only a month later we were joined by our “starter” flock consisting mostly of colored Corriedale sheep. By October, we had built a small barn and installed about 4000 feet of permanent fencing to get us through our first winter. With 25 acres of grass, the sheep have plenty of room to grow. Spring 2013 we had five lambs join our flock! And in June, the yarn from their fleece arrived!
Todd & Peggy Allen purchased this apartment in 2012
This is a quintessential Vermont setting with all the modern amenities and just minutes away from several of towns, and dozens of activities and outdoor fun.
You know it's special when the local folks come visit and say, 'I had no idea there was a view like this!'
Wonderful stay! We were up for a Dartmouth Reunion and loved staying in your beautiful apartment. Waking up to the view of the valley was incredible! Our girls absolutely loved your farm and have asked to go back - soon. Thank you for such lovely accommodations. Everything was as you described it, the apartment was very very clean with nice furnishings and we love that your compost and recycle! Also, thank you for the written directions as much as we live in the digital age - sometimes it is great to have written directions to refer to.
A practical, pleasant, and well equipped apartment, beautifully perched atop a hill, with 360 Degrees of spectacular views into a charming Vermont landscape: A perfect spot to get away, enjoy the beauties of nature, and the peace of the Vermont country side. Todd and Peggy are wonderfully thoughtful hosts, their herd of sheep adds charm and a bit of humor to the time spent there. Marvelously located within easy reach of Norwich, Hanover and White River Junction. If you need good restaurants, they are close at hand. The ideal location for vacationers seeking natural beauty and quiet days for reenergizing oneself. We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at Savage Hart Farm.
We stayed at the Savage Hart Farm over the 4th of July weekend. The setting is incredibly peaceful with amazing views in all directions. Todd and Peggy were very accommodating. They even gave us some fresh zucchini from their garden. We used the grill to cook dinner both nights. And then ate on the adirondack chairs watching the sheep. While remote, you are also close to Hanover, White River Junction, and Quechee. And we ran over to the Appalachian Trail for a nice trail run. Highly recommended for a relaxing vacation.
My finance and I stayed at Savage Hart Farms for almost a month!!! My daughter goes to Dartmouth and it is her senior year. I wanted a place where we could cook for her and she could study. The moment we walked in and went into the apartment we felt like we were at home. The views from all the windows are breath taking!! Would not of had the same kind of experience if we stayed at a local hotel. Todd and Peggy are simply nice people that were very accommodating. Peggy took me out into the field to feed the sheep I will never forget it!! We will be back!!!! Highly recommend!!!!
My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at Savage Hart Farm while on a "leaf-peeping" tour of New England and wished we had been able to spend longer. The apartment is beautifully furnished and complete with everything needed to prepare a meal. The views from the windows are spectacular--open vistas with farms and trees in the distance; and, while there, we had a gorgeous sunset.
We requested and were treated to a walk around the farm and opportunity to meet the flock--a real treat for us "city folk". Peggy also shared her knowledge of the complete process from raising the sheep to produce certain colors of yarn to spinning the yarn and knitting hand made garments. Most fascinating!
Todd and Peggy were available as needed and we enjoyed getting to know more about the area through conversations with them. Peggy also made some excellent suggestions for nearby places to visit.
We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet location, country setting near the Woodstock, Quechee, White River Junction area.
Our stay at Savage Hart Farm was a wonderful experience. The apartment above the garage was perfectly described, private, and had great views of the Vermont farm landscape. The owners were kind enough to introduce us to their flock of sheep and a few females were curious and friendly! The location was quite close to nearby attractions; we visited Lou's Restaurant in Hanover, NH for breakfast, King Arthur Flour, Quechee Gorge, and Harpoon Brewery. Personally, meeting the sheep was the best highlight for me! We'd definitely recommend this rental to anyone and will return again ourselves.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Savage Hart Farm, on its beautiful hilltop location.
So peaceful, quiet and relaxing! Beautiful sunsets and foggy, misty mornings. Todd, Peggy and Peggy's sister, Eileen were so nice. Eileen introduced us to the sheep and let us spend time feeding them.
The apartment was immaculate and very comfortable.
We will definitely recommend Savage Hart Farm to friends and also look forward to staying there in the future.
We are surrounded by terrific area attractions including: King Arthur Flour Education Center, Cafe, and Store;
