About Dia Michels
I moved to Washington DC in 1980 to save the world. Unfortunately, the world could still use quite a bit of help! I, however, fell in love with DC and never left. I met my husband in 1981 and we have lived here ever since. This home was our first house in DC. We currently live in a larger and newer (1905) townhouse in the same neighborhood. We fell in love with Capitol Hill and have raised our three kids here. We love the area and want to share it with others.
Dia Michels purchased this Townhome in 1983
Why Dia Michels chose Hill East
This 1858 charming home is from the Civil War era. The house has been totally upgraded with an open layout, 4 flat screen TVs, an amazing leather sectional sofa, fabulous beds and a lovely front porch and backyard. In addition, we just installed solar panels on the roof! Just one block off Barracks Row, the house is caddy-corner to the Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., the oldest active post in the Corps and near the Washington Naval Yard and old Naval Hospital (now a community center). The house is quaint, yet spacious and with a location just 8 blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the location is ideal.
What makes this Townhome unique
Washington DC is a great place to spend time. The city is compressed, so you can get anywhere is a short time. We have great public transportation (the Eastern Market Metro is just 3 blocks away) and the city is flat, so it is perfect for walking and cycling. Rent this house for access to the entire city. Entertain friends, BBQ in the yard or walk around the block where there are dozens of restaurants. Live theater, great parks, free museums and baseball are all just a few steps away!

Loved this place
Second time staying at this home. Homeowner does a great job of informing you on great places to shop/eat/play in the area. How was extremely clean as usual. Will stay again next year and will reccommend to others
Great house close to everything in DC
Dia’s house was amazing. She made sure I needed everything before I arrived and her response time is quick. We will definitely be back the next time we want to stay in dc
We just spent eight days in Washington with four teenagers, and this house was perfect. Lots of room to spread out, convenient to the Metro, and a well-appointed kitchen! Our kids were sad to leave!
Very nice and quaint older home near all the sights in DC.
This home built in 1858 has been updated nicely, but still has that old home feel. Large screen TV’s throughout the house and WiFi make it feel modern, but the small staircases and creaky floors remind you this home has a very rich history. A modern kitchen made meals in very easy and efficient.
Loved the location; next to the oldest Marine barracks in the country and within walking distance to many of the DC sites including the Capital made it an excellent choice for our family. Thank you Dia for sharing your former residence with us.
Our group, four adults and two teenagers, immensely enjoyed this home. It is historical and modern, all at the same time. Dia is warm, appropriately communicative, and accessible. Great location for walking or using public transportation. We highly recommend it to you.
A great home in a great location.
My family of four just stayed a week at this fantastic home. Dia, the homeowner, was very accommodating. She communicated everything very well and even obtained a parking permit for our car. The house is exactly as described and was most comfortable and quiet. The location is excellent as well. It is well within walking distance to restaurants, groceries, and the metro line. The rental fee for this home is quite reasonable for the area too. I cannot recommend this house highly enough. I have already mentioned to Dia that, should we ever return to the DC area, her house is the first place I'll check for availability. If you're looking to book a home rental in DC, look no further than this property. You'll be glad you did.
The home is located in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, on a quiet street, just blocks away from restaurants, the Nationals baseball stadium, the Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. (which has free Parades every Friday night in the summer), the Smithsonian museums, the US Capitol, Supreme Court, National Archives, the Library of Congress, or the Newseum, embassies, etc. Getting around is easy, via walking, Metro, Car2Go, ZipCar, BikeShare, and, of course, by personal auto.
