Karin purchased this Villa in 1800
Why Karin chose Bellagio
The villa is very elegant. It has the beauty of being an historical villa with all the modern comforts. It is well furnished with beautiful antiques, has high ceilings and beautiful large and spacious rooms. The location is stunning. Outside of the busy center of Bellagio but close to the peaceful small village of S.Giovanni (3 minutes by walking distance) where there is the Villa's boat dock, restaurant, small boutique grocer, coffee shop and wine bar and just 3 minutes to downtown Bellagio by car.
What makes this Villa unique
The beautiful porch over viewing the lake is magical. As soon as you arrive you find peace, nature and historical beauties. The Villa has a private dock just three minutes walking distance so that you can enjoy renting your boat and are able to dock it just a few steps from the Villa. Near the villa depart scenic trails with lovely walks that can take you to the summit of Mount St. First in order to fully appreciate the spectacle of the three branches of Lake Como and the newly discovered caves.

Great Time in Bellagio!!
We visited Villa Poletti with 4 couples and had a great time. The place is great, views amazing and we really had a wonderful stay! I would highly recommend this villa! The place is about a 15 min walk along a winding road to center of Bellagio and there is not a great taxi/uber/car service in area. I recommend someone having a car to make dinners in town easier. We also utilized the ferry from San Giovanni, just a few minute walk but the times are limited. There is a great coffee and sandwich shop NeNe in SanGiovanni.. delicious!! We can't wait to go back!
Since this was our first time we were unaware of certain locales on Lake Como. For example, the listing indicates Bellagio when in fact it is on the hill above San Giovanni. Considerably fewer ferries available. The HIKE home up on the road from Bellagio is drastic, especially at night. Not at all what we expected. Seems to be very few taxis available. However the walk along the waters edge during the day only (once you figure out where and how) is lovely!
All that said, Monika was very accommodating; even offered to drive us to the ferry with our luggage upon departure.
Dolce Vita at Villa Poletti!
Our family of 7 had a fabulous stay in Lake Como at Villa Poletti. The website and other reviews were accurate - it was what we imagined and we had a fabulous stay. Some of the best nights were relaxing on the terrace watching the sunset and the great view of the lake. It took a little time to get boat, bus, walking times down, but once we did everything was very smooth. The views from all the rooms are unforgettable. We loved our short walk (getting a little exercise everyday) to the main part of San Giovanni to catch our ferry to Bellagio and fell in love with cappuccinos, croissaints and local food selections at NeNe. The walk to Bellagio was also good exercise and mostly a beautiful path where you only had to be on the busy road for a short time. We have already recommended the Villa to our friends and will definitely be back ourselves.
Beautiful Villa, no AC
The views from the villa are stunning, Monika and her team are responsive and the villa was clean. However, we were a little disappointed that the AC never really worked in the house and it was very hot during the week we stayed. Monika sent someone over to try and fix it but nothing really changed. At night it cooled off enough to sleep but it was hot and muggy during the day and early evening. For the amount we paid for the villa I would have expected the owner to keep the temperature manageable. Every other place we stayed in Italy, Rome and Milan, had very nice, cool apartments.
Thank you for your review. I am sorry you could not keep the temperatures low enough. The air conditioning has been working great for other stays. It could have been not working at full capacity if doors and windows were kept open. Even if a door or windows is slightly open the sensor would automatically shut off the system.
Thank you again for taking the time to let us know and we are sorry you had a bad experience.
Lovely classic Italian villa
We enjoyed our stay, the property was great and the view amazing. There were 4 couples and it accommodated our group just fine!
Villa Poletti is a magnificent home located in Bellagio with breathtaking views of the most beautiful part of Lake Como. It towers over the small hamlet of San Giovanni with its quaint harbor, boat landing, pebble beaches, historical church, restaurant, grocer and a small post office. Relax and enjoy the historical villa across the lake from almost everywhere on the property, including the grassy living room balcony and the terraced fruit-tree garden. The villa is located just 3 minutes by car to downtown Bellagio. If you are in the mood to explore you may walk 15 minutes to visit the amazing gardens of Villa Melzi or take a half hour stroll to downtown Bellagio.
