Watch the sun rise over Pigeon Mountain and set over Lookout Mountain and then be prepared for an awesome sight as the night sky is illuminated by the stars and nothing else! Learn the constellations because you can see them. Where else can you roast marshmallows and sing by the fire as late as you like and not worry about bothering the neighbors?
Pigeon Mountain (2 miles away) has a 10 minute hike to an 80 ft waterfall and also has Rocktown on top for rock climbers of all ages. It has miles of hiking trails but no houses. Cloudland Canyon State Park is only 15 minutes away on Lookout Mountain and it is worth the visit.

We are a family of 24 who live in various parts of the country. We were looking for a meet up for five families for five days and found this rental to be centrally located for all of us. We had 10 adults and 14 grandchildren aged 5 months to 17 years old. We found this home to meet our needs and to have a wonderful time as a family. We spent most of of our time in the house but did take a day trip to the Chattanooga, TN area. Jon, the owner, took us on a tour upon our arrival and pointed out what we needed to know about his home. He also came by daily to pick up the garbage and to see how we were doing. I would recommend this home for a family getaway. The views from this house were outstanding. We managed a beautiful family photo from the back deck. The kids loved exploring the property. The kids had a room to play their video games while the adults had their own space on the opposite side of this house. Though there were two kitchens in this home we did most of the cooking in the main kitchen which features two ovens. The kids really enjoyed the pool (yes...in December) and the outside jacuzzi. All in all it was a time to remember and we are thankful for time together as a family!
This was a great place for our family reunion celebrating our mom/grandmother's 100th birthday. We also used the auxiliary house. Besides the magnificent views and wildlife, there is a wonderful in ground pool. Jon also has on site for his guests a horseshoe pit, volleyball, and croquet. The very large porch and multiple balconies provide a quiet place to sit, read, and enjoy nature.
The location is remote, yet close to major Chattanooga, TN tourist attractions. In the immediate area there are hiking trails and canyons to explore. Also, lots of fishing opportunities for the fishermen.
Although remote, you still have cell service. The lodge and auxiliary house our very nice and clean with plenty of room for families. If you are looking for a place for a large gathering, look no further. This is it!
Every year we have a family reunion for 20-30 people, depending on who can come that year, new members, etc. As the main planner, I put hours into looking for a house that truly accommodates this many people. Jon's Lodge really is big enough - and laid out - to manage a large group.
The bedroom layout in the main house works well for multiple families. It is a log cabin so noise carries, but since there are 2 sides it works well for early to bed crowd, as well as early to rise crowd, not being bothered by others. There are bedrooms on the main level as well as upstairs (the staircases are gorgeous... though they're steep log cabin stairs so I recommend baby gates if you have young children). The main house has 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bath on the main level so it's easily accessible for those that can't tackle the stairs. The smaller auxiliary house is a perfect addition for a quieter, separate sleeping area, as well as additional kitchen & living quarters (3bed/2bath with 6 additional beds - Q, F, T, T, T, T).
The kitchens are stocked with tons of utensils & cookware. There are 2 refrigerators in the main house, 2 stoves/ovens, 2 coffee pots, 3 sinks... it's plenty big to cook for a large crowd. (We also had the auxiliary house which added an additional full kitchen though we didn't need to use it since we gathered in the main house.)
The porches & decks on the house are awesome! Parents of small kids were a little crazy running behind them on the main front porch because it's a long drop down. We were very careful... but what a view! We enjoyed coffee & sunrise on one side, and sunset on the other. It's really a gorgeous setting!
The lawn area is fabulous for yard games and playing. The volleyball set on-site is AWESOME! The back patio area & fire pit are really nice, and we spent most evenings there. The pool is gated and there's plenty of seating area (and chairs) around the pool. It was very clean, and well taken care of. We did take a canopy to provide shade as needed as there's only 1 umbrella in the pool area and it's very sunny. This helped a lot for our young kids & adults that didn't want to be in full sun.
Jon was anxious to help; he was there every morning to gather garbage and answer any questions. He always checked for any issues, and was responsive any time we needed anything.
We enjoyed our stay at the Lodge... we saw the resident wildlife, enjoyed the quiet mountains, with enough space to be together & enjoy each other.
We had a group of 11 people attend a weekend get together at the Lodge. Let me start by saying working with the owner, Jon Afman, was such a pleasure. He was quick to respond and answer every question before we got there. Once we arrived he provided us with a tour of the property.
Secondly the lodge is a perfect place for a large group to enjoy and make lasting memories. We had plenty of space an lots to do onsite.
The views are completely stunning! Absolutely loved having breakfast on the patio and watching the sunset at night on the mountains.
I would highly recommend this property.
There was an AMAZING time had when our family chose this location for our Family Christmas! The cabin is so spacious and a well equipped kitchen (2 of them!). There was plenty of room to play cards, watch TV by the fire, or just hang out. We saw deer in the mornings from the windows. I highly recommend this property for your family gatherings. Wish it had been warm enough to try out the swimming pool!!! Owner met us and showed us around which was very helpful!!
An amazing weekend in an amazing home. So well equipped and comfortable. The owner even took the time to run and get a corkscrew for us! I most definitely will return!
