Piece of paradise on the beach, 2 bdrm, 2 bath condo in small gated development
Playa Dorada is a 6 unit gated condo development north of Bahia de Caraquez and about 5 km south of Canoa, Ecuador. The condos sit directly on the beach. Simply unlock the gate and the beach is there. Sitting on the balcony, enjoy the view of the ocean, the locals bringing in their catch, spectacular sunsets and a beautiful infinity pool which appears to drop into the Pacific Ocean.
Our fully air conditioned second floor, 2 bedroom, 2 bath luxury condo has a maximum capacity of 4 people and a minimum age of 13 years. The condo comes complete with a fully equipped kitchen, linens, washer, dryer, high speed internet, flat screen TV (no TV service, for computer use) and hair dryer.
Next to the infinity pool is a thatch covered gazebo complete with a propane BBQ, tables, chairs and a sink with running water. Enjoy cooking with low cost shrimp & fish from the local fishermen and an abundant supply of vegetables from the markets. Relax around the pool and enjoy the sunshine and tropical vegetation.
The condo and grounds are non smoking and a guard dog is on the premises. Electrical plug ins are 110 V, as in North America. Plumbing in our condo is to North American standard so toilet paper may be flushed down the toilet.

About Peggy Galbraith
We currently live near Calgary, Alberta, Canada and had been looking for many years at international properties. We were looking for certain criteria such as inexpensive living, infrastructure, medical and of course, the weather.
Peggy Galbraith purchased this Condo in 2012
Why Peggy Galbraith chose Canoa
We chose Playa Dorada because of it's location and size. There are only 6 condo units so you never have to feel crowded in the infinity pool. You just cannot beat being right on the beach and the sunsets are amazing. We also liked that the developer was American and built to American plumbing standards.
What makes this Condo unique
Warm Pacific Ocean water, miles of beach to walk and bus transportation right outside of our property make this property location perfect.

Amazing beach and property
This property and beach are amazing. We were here for a three month stay and had a wonderful vacation. The condo was very well appointed, had everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed the gardens and the pool and the beach was incredible; sandy and you can walk forever. The owner and property manager were very accommodating. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to a friend or relative.
What an incredible view ! The condo had everything we needed to make ourselves at home. Perfect for lounging by the pool, and walking for miles down the beach! Safe and secure location, and the three nearby towns were an affordable taxi ride away! Highly recommend!
We are so glad you enjoyed your time at our "piece of paradise". I know you had a very full and busy month in Ecuador and this was a relaxing break. Hope to see you again in Ecuador!
The property was wonderful. Pictures don't lie.
We just spent a month at Playa Dorada and loved every minute of our time there. The condo is on the 2nd floor so there is a beautiful unobstructed view view of the ocean and we spent plenty of time sitting on the balcony watching the waves, sunsets and paragliders landing on the beach. Opening the bedroom door and falling asleep and waking to the sounds of the waves was so relaxing. The condo was beautifully decorated and welk sticked with everything you need to cooj meals including spices which we added to. The buses and taxis were readily available as well as cheap and easy to figure out. The permanent residents at the condo were very nice as well as helpful and included us in activities such as triva night at the surf shack. We made some long lasting friendships. Many vendors come to the gate such as the bread guys selling fresh warm homemade bread, yogurt and pizza dough, fisherman selling fresh fish, a guy selling sausage and chutneys and of course the wine and booze truck. Shopping is just a 1.00 bus ride away, and the Monday market in San Vicente can't be missed.
Peggy was awesome to work with and even contacted us while we were there to make sure all was well and solved the only issue in a couple of hours. Samia, the property manager was awesome and an angel.
If there was a down side it would be that the living room furniture and bed were not extremely comfortable but we weren't indoors much.
Thank you Peggy and Reg for letting us enjoy your home. We will definitely be back to Ecuador. This was by far our best experience with VRBO. It is peple like these that make vacations wonderful. Thanks again.
Beautiful oceanfront property
Loved the sound of the waves crashing on shore. Property is fully back up and running after eathquake (April 2016). Lovely pool and cabana. Condo is nicely decorated and very well equipped with kitchen and bathroom basics. Enjoyed our short stay immensely.
We were impressed by all aspects of this property.
Both the condo itself and property are impeccable. The location is wonderful. You can walk the beautiful beach in both directions and watch gorgeous sun sets from your own balcony.
The property manager Samia is a blessing and goes beyond to help you. The other unit owners make you feel welcome and offer helpful tips to make your stay enjoyable. We look forward to our return visit.
Thanks Rod & Dorothy for being wonderful guests! I am glad to hear that the cleanup after the earthquake has gone well and things are back to our usual standards.
We are also thrilled to hear that we made a good choice with Samia being our property manager and that she smoothed the way for for you.
Ourselves and all Ecuadorians are glad when people like you are not swayed by the earthquake and you still come which helps the local economy immensely!! Thank you again.
Secluded gateway on lovely beach
From helping to arrange the taxi, to looking into a fishing boat charter, the caretaker Leo made sure we had everything we needed. The unit is a spacious 2 bed, 2 bath that is very clean and well equipped, especially the kitchen with spices and oils, some condiments and storage containers so that one need not immediately hop on the bus to Bahia to get supplies. The other guests and residents, many of whom are permanent were friendly and accommodating and helped us get the lay of the land quickly and even offered the use of surfboards and boogie boards. Being directly on the beach allowed for daily walks, playing frisbee and swimming in your back yard with perfect ocean temperatures or the pool if so inclined. Our favorite part was the local merchants that brought fresh fish and warm bread for sale throughout the week along with a wine distributor that offered some nice choices at reasonable prices. On the downside, there isn't much to do here and even the neighboring towns of Canoa, San Vicente and Bahia provide only a brief reprieve. The buses are frequent, cheap and reliable but take some practise to master, especially where and when to get off. Overall we enjoyed our 10 days here and the cost was good for the budget oriented, especially when you factor in how little you'll spend on anything else but food and booze.
Thanks for being great guests and we are thrilled you enjoyed our "piece of paradise" as much as we do. I am also glad to hear that our property manager helped you out along with the other condo owners.
The water temperature of the ocean is really amazing isn't it? The deliveries to the condo complex makes getting fresh bread, fish and wine super easy but I have to admit that I still love going to the local markets.
We are putting together additional info for our guests on "things to do and see" in the area so that should help out for your next visit!
Buses run approx every 20 minutes going north and south of Playa Dorada. Taxis are very inexpensive - just confirm the price before you get in.
The popular surfing town of Canoa is approx 5 km north of Playa Dorada where you will find many hotels and restaurants and lots of American style food including hamburgers, fries, onion rings and pizza. The biggest bang for your buck is the Ecuadorian lunches for about $2.50 which include meat or seafood, rice, lentils, fresh juice and soup.
Going further north about 45 minutes, you will find Jama and the small authentic fishing village of El Matal.
South of our Playa Dorada condo, approx 12 km is San Vicente. The local market will provide you with all the fresh vegetables you could imagine for exceptionally low cost. We love to catch the bus into San Vicente for breakfast of Encobollada (tuna & onion soup), an amazingly great way to start the day.
The longest bridge in Ecuador now connects San Vicente to Bahia de Caraquez and is bringing better infrastructure to San Vicente. We expect the local airport will soon be servicing flights from the international airport in Quito. Bahia is the Eco City of Ecuador, has paved streets, wonderful restaurants and has a large expat community.
Manta is further south and at this time is the closest domestic airport. Manta is a large industrial city with a shipping port and fishing fleet. It boasts shopping malls and a very good American owned butcher shop.
