You will not be disappointed with the breathtaking scenery, exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities and the multitude of recreational, historical and cultural activities available in Homer and the surrounding area.
After arriving at the Twin Puffins (located a short 15-minute drive from downtown Homer), you can relax in the cozy cabin accentuated by warm, rich and natural golden hues of native Alaskan spruce.
The Twin Puffins features two comfy bedrooms; the Blue Bedroom has a king size bed with an en suite bathroom that has a standard size tub and shower. The Green Bedroom is available in either two twin or one king size bed configuration. A futon-style sofa in the living room is also available for additional guests. The main bathroom has an over-sized shower and is conveniently located between the bedrooms and the living room. A washer and dryer are in the cabin for your use, so you can pack light (soap is provided). The kitchen is fully equipped, including a refrigerator with a small freezer, a full-size microwave, a stove/oven and a dishwasher. Other amenities include satellite TV, a flat panel TV with surround sound and DVD player in each bedroom. In addition to the TVs in the bedrooms there is a 42' flat screen TV in the living room. The stereo in the living room can also be heard through built in speakers in the ceiling above the deck. A small selection of movies and some board games are available to keep you entertained if the weather keeps you indoors. Wired internet and WiFi are available.
From the living room, French doors open on to a large wooden deck; the perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the view of Kachemak Bay, the Kenai Mountains, Grewingk Glacier, as well as a peaceful green pasture with a large pond. Depending on the time of year, you may see beautiful wildflowers such as the brilliant fields of fuchsia-colored fireweed, or pick fresh raspberries along the driveway. Homer is also a Birder's delight. In addition to the migrating shorebirds in the Spring, there are many birds in the area surrounding the cabin, among them are the Golden-crowned Sparrow (the 'oh-dear-me' bird) with it's distinctive call, Bald Eagles and other raptors, and Sandhill Cranes are often seen. Keep your camera ready as wildlife, such as moose and the occasional black bear or coyote, may be seen. Moose seem to enjoy an evening swim in the pond.
Whether you are in Homer on business, sabbatical, vacation or honeymoon, the Twin Puffins offers a private and secluded getaway with all the modern conveniences of home.
The eight Erikson siblings (Erikson Heritage, LLC) are co-owners of the Twin Puffins. Although five of the siblings reside in other states, three live in Alaska, two of which continue to live on the homestead and co-manage the rental cabin.
Suzy or Carlton Erikson purchased this cabin in 1950
The forty-acre homestead on which the Twin Puffins is located was established in 1950 by Bill and Esther Erikson. The Erikson children inherited the homestead property in 2003 and built the Twin Puffins Vacation Rental Cabin in 2006 as a means to keep the homestead in the family.
The location of the Twin Puffins was chosen for its beautiful views of the mountains and bay in the distance as well as the near-by pasture and pond. It is situated to provide privacy with a wide-open feel while at the same time remaining convenient to Homer.
We loved this vacation rental from the moment we drove up to the house. It is meticulously maintained, organized, super clean, and very well laid out. The owners have added small touches like a surround sound system, a good quality gas BBQ, two sets of accessible house keys, several recycling bins, board games and more than adequate amount of bed linens and towels.
To top it off, Homer is an incredible area to explore and enjoy with the family. From biking, fishing, hiking, whale watching to glaciers and bear viewing, it was superb! Our biggest challenge was to find some decent cuisine, which we found after a few attempts, including Finns Pizza and Little Mermaid on the spit, and The Bagel Shop on East End Road.
As a fellow HomeAway owner and frequent traveler, this has to have been one of the best vacation homes that we have rented. Thank you !!
We stayed at Twin Puffins for 5 days the August. It was cozy and comfortable, especially nice to come back to after being out for the day. The house is well built, with noticeable quality throughout. The owner thoughtfully left spices and many condiments and staples for us to use. And delicious raspberry jam, made from the bushes lining the driveway. We picked those same berries and had them on our cereal every day! I'd definitely recommend this home to anyone looking for a base while in Homer.
We arrived at Twin Puffins for 3 nights and all was set perfectly from the arrival information to the setting of the cabin. Overlooking Katchemak bay and the glaciers it had a fantastic view.
The cabin interior really was one of the best set out cabins we have stayed in, thinking of almost everything that a traveler/tourist would need, the jar of Raspberry jam was very welcoming too.
We as British tourists thought the cabin owners had thought of everything that would be needed for a few days.
Cant really say enough of this place, great view, well laid out and roomy cabin, great deck looking out to the bay, mountains and glaciers.

Absolutely amazing place! The house is charming, the details provided for the guests are wonderful. The view, AMAZING. It takes in the bay and the mountains with a glacier across from it. If you can stay up late enough for it to get dark (or get up early enough for it to be dark), you can see the Homer spit and all the lights reflecting off the water. I loved the outside deck with the french doors. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could want or need and the bed was super comfortable. We read the guest book and there was someone that has stayed there 11 times and I can see why. If I ever get the chance to return to Homer, this would be the first place I would see is available. I usually like to try something different on each stay, but this would be the exception. Super clean, beautifully decorated, and a great value too. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us. Truly a memorable stay.
We loved our stay in Homer at the Twin Puffins Cabin. From our first impression to the last it was absolutely perfect!. It's immaculate! Everything you need is right there. Two King beds make it the perfect retreat for two couples. We all enjoyed the layout and the incredible views. We decided to cook one dinner there and a few breakfasts. We found everything we needed and more. The cabinets are not only stocked with cooking utensils but coffee and spices as well. We didn't see any wildlife, but the raspberries were in bloom along the driveway. It was a very comfortable retreat after our long days of adventure. Don't even hesitate to book this cabin!! If we ever find ourselves in Homer again this is where we'll stay!
If you're vacationing here in Homer, AK consider Wes @ Beluga Air for a trip to see Brooks Falls and doing a fishing trip for salmon and halibut. I'd skip the wildlife cruise unless you're really into birds and bird viewing. We saw a lot more whales on our fishing trip!
This was our second visit to Twin Puffins and we plan on returning. The view from the deck along with the BBQ made dinners very relaxing at the end of our sight seeing filled days. Perfect vacation rental .
