There are signs of Zingst's proud seafaring history throughout the town. The Heimatmuseum chronicles the town's long maritime tradition, and has impressive model ships and a bakery. For fun with all the family, give Experimentarium Zingst a go. This colorful little science museum has interactive exhibits that both young and old will enjoy, as well a workshop program. And if you're a shutterbug, head to Max Hunten's House. Beach or forest? Take your pick in Zingst
Water enthusiasts will go gaga for the beach at Zingst. At more than 9 miles in length, there are lots of spots to go surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, and scuba diving. If you'd rather take things a little slower, you can just lay out in the sun or take a cool dip in the Baltic Sea. In the middle of the beach is Seebruck Zingst, a wooden pier that juts out into the Baltic Sea, and which makes for a delightful evening stroll. And cyclists will enjoy the long cycle paths that run along the seafront and through the nearby forest.
Don't worry, Baltic conditions ain't all that bad
Word to the wise—bring a coat! The Baltic is synonymous with cold, so Zingst can get quite chilly now and then. However, due to its coastal climate, Zingst does have pleasant summers. In July and August, temperatures often reach into the low 70s. It's still relatively warm come September. However it does start to get pretty wet from August onwards. If you like your weather warm and dry, June is the month for you. However, there is high demand for Zingst vacation rentals in summer, so make sure that you book early.
Zingst—where natural delights are all around
Luckily for nature lovers, Zingst lies within the unspoilt Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft national park. Covering over 180,000 acres, it's the largest national park on Germany's Baltic Sea coast. The landscape is low, flat and constantly being shaped by the sea and the wind. Within the park, you'll find narrow strips of beach, windswept dunes, dense forest, and wild heather. The best way to discovers the park is along its many walking, hiking, and cycle trails, where you might catch sight of deer, wild boar and, if you're lucky, some otters.
