About the host
Hosted by Lisa Franchot
I’m a proud mom of three amazing young men and a lifelong lake lover from Michigan. A marathon runner, hiker, and outdoor adventurer, I enjoy road trips, swimming holes, and sand dunes with my boys. Our happy places are the Grand Canyon, The Great Lakes, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and pretty much any lake or river anywhere. I believe it’s never too late to learn something new—recently I’ve taken up surfing and drumming—and I love sharing our Beachwood neighborhood for the perfect LA getaway.
Why they chose this property
Beachwood Canyon is a little getaway from the hustle of Hollywood while still being close to everything. Surrounded by Griffith Park, the canyon is the original Hollywoodland, developed in the early 1920s and rich with LA history. The "secret stairs" are a fantastic way to hike up toward the Hollywood Sign and get a workout in, and the famous Beachwood Cafe is the spot for breakfast. Nearby, the reservoir offers a gorgeous 3-mile walk with views of the Hollywood Sign, LA, and Bugsy Siegel's old gambling mansion from the Prohibition era (once owned by Madonna). The Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood Bowl sit on either side of the canyon, just a short trip away.
What makes this property unique
Tucked into the hillside, this modern cottage feels like a private retreat, with a wraparound deck framed by banana leaf and palm. String lights and lush greenery set the scene for evenings outside, whether you're gathered around the outdoor dining table or relaxing on the lounge seating.
Inside, vaulted wood-beamed ceilings and a wood-burning fireplace with a whitewashed brick give the living room warmth and character, balanced by white walls and floors that keep everything feeling bright and open. The kitchen carries the same clean, airy palette, with a butcher block bar top and stools for casual meals or morning coffee.
It's a home that blends mid-century charm with an easy, indoor-outdoor California feel.
