About this property

The Loft on Johns Creek

The Loft at Johns Creek

The Loft at Johns Creek is a family-owned Creekside retreat just outside the small town of New Castle, Virginia. Originally a cabinet shop, the building has been transformed into an open-concept, two-bedroom loft with a little bit of an urban feel in the middle of Virginia's mountains.
But the real focus of The Loft is out back.
A 16-foot glass door looks toward Johns Creek, which flows approximately 20 feet behind the building. The creek is about 35 feet wide and runs year-round, even during the driest summer months. Open the doors and you'll hear the water from inside. Step outside and you'll find a wraparound deck with chairs and a table beneath a metal pergola, all overlooking the creek.
Below the deck is a fire pit area with Adirondack chairs and a Breeo stove. Firewood is provided, so after a day of hiking, biking, fishing or exploring the mountains, you can come back, cook dinner, pour a drink and spend the evening around the fire listening to the creek.
That's really what we enjoy most about The Loft. The adventure is out there. This is the place you come back to.
Inside the Loft
The open-concept living area includes comfortable seating near the glass doors, a full kitchen with an island, a dining table and a reading nook with books. There's also a wall-mounted television, CD player, board games and Starlink internet.
The kitchen is fully equipped so you can prepare a real meal rather than having to eat out for every meal of your stay. Outside, a charcoal grill gives you another option when the weather is nice.
The Loft has two bedrooms, each with a queen bed and fan, and one full bathroom. Linens, towels, soap and shampoo are provided. A washer and dryer are also available for guests.
During the colder months, the freestanding gas-log stove changes the feel of the place completely. Turn on the fire, settle in with a book, watch a movie or listen to music while looking through the glass doors at Johns Creek. The creek doesn't stop when winter arrives, and some of our favorite time here has been during the colder months.
Outside
The outdoor space was designed around the creek.
Relax beneath the pergola, grill dinner, sit around the fire, or take one of the provided inner tubes down to the water and cool off. There's also a yard with room for outdoor games and an area for storing bikes, kayaks and other outdoor gear you may bring along.
Wildlife is part of this area as well. Deer are common, and we've even had an occasional bear pass through. Guests should enjoy wildlife from a safe distance and remember that this is their home, too.
After the Adventure
The Loft makes a comfortable home base for exploring Craig County and the surrounding mountains.
Dragon's Tooth is approximately 8 miles away, McAfee Knob about 10 miles away, and the Audie Murphy Trail approximately 6 miles away. The surrounding area also offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, fishing, kayaking and simply exploring the mountains of Southwest Virginia.
We're not trying to make The Loft an all-in-one adventure destination. We think its strength is exactly the opposite.
Go spend the day doing what brought you to the mountains. Hike a trail. Ride your bike. Fish. Explore. Head toward Blacksburg or enjoy a Virginia Tech weekend. Then come back to Johns Creek, make dinner, open the doors, light the fire and slow things down for the evening.
Or skip the adventure altogether. There's nothing wrong with spending a couple of days doing very little.
Close Enough, Yet a Different Pace
The Loft is located just outside New Castle, giving guests convenient access to groceries, restaurants and other necessities without being far from the outdoor attractions that bring people to Craig County.
We also want our guests to know exactly what to expect. The property is located along a road, so you will occasionally hear passing vehicles. Traffic is generally light, particularly during the mornings and evenings. The back of the property and the primary living and outdoor areas are oriented toward Johns Creek, where the steady sound of the water becomes the focus.
The Loft isn't an isolated mountain cabin miles from civilization, and we don't advertise it as one. It's a comfortable creekside retreat that's convenient to town while offering a very different atmosphere once you're out back by the water.
A Place for Two - or a Few
With two queen bedrooms, The Loft comfortably accommodates up to four guests.
It's a great fit for a couple looking for a weekend away, two couples traveling together, a small family exploring the mountains, hikers and cyclists looking for a comfortable place to return to, or Virginia Tech visitors who want something different from a hotel stay.
Summer evenings around the fire are hard to beat, but don't overlook fall and winter. When it's too cold to sit outside, the gas-log stove, glass doors, books, games and constantly moving creek make The Loft a comfortable place to spend a quiet weekend.
Family Owned & A Stay That Gives Back
The Loft at Johns Creek is family owned and operated. We enjoy this property ourselves and want our guests to feel comfortable here rather than feel like they're staying in another corporate vacation rental.
Our family is also involved with Saint Francis Service Dogs, an organization that is important to us. In appreciation for each reservation, we make a charitable donation to Saint Francis Service Dogs in our guest's name.
You'll find information about Saint Francis at The Loft, including a QR code if you'd like to learn more about their work. There is absolutely no obligation to contribute. We simply appreciate the opportunity to support the organization and introduce more people to the work they do.
Whether you're coming to hike, bike, fish, visit friends or family, spend a Virginia Tech weekend in the mountains, or simply get away for a couple of days, we hope The Loft gives you a comfortable place to come back to, relax and enjoy Johns Creek.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.
