Ask a questionAbout Michael Hornby
KettleStone was conceived, built and is owned by Michael Hornby ... formally of Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada. Michael first discovered Andros Island in 1988 on a diving vacation and in 1997, in pursuit of his passion for scuba diving and a simpler lifestyle took the plunge literally and moved to the Bahamas. Michael currently lives on Andros Island and consults for a local all-inclusive resort as well as owning and managing KettleStone. No stranger to the hospitality industry, in addition to being a Technical and Recreational Diving Instructor, Michael enjoys Blue Hole cave diving, deep wall diving and is a private pilot and boat captain. After 25 years of living on Andros, Michael's love for the simplicity of the environment and the friendliness of local inhabitants continues to grow. Michael envisioned building a warm and welcoming luxury home that showcased the natural island beauty with strict attention to detail. It had to offer barefoot elegance that could be shared with others. With this vision in mind, Michael built KettleStone without compromise.
Why Michael Hornby chose Andros Town
Situated on one acre … KettleStone land was chosen from years of local island research and a great stroke of opportunity which involved being offered the ideal virgin land from which to commence construction. Saving as much natural flora as possible was paramount, so carefully the land was hand cleared to preserve mature natural growth. Minutes from amenities and an international airport KettleStone Villa is only a mere one hour flight from Florida and 5 minutes from a port of entry marina ... the location was ideal. A barrier island chain, shallow lagoon and sufficient elevation to provide a panoramic view and offer cooling breezes ... KettleStone had found its beginning.
What makes this Villa unique
KettleStone was built with attention to detail. Named for the 'Kettle' formations at waters edge and expansive use of hand crafted local 'Stone' ... hand cut limestone ocean-side terraces and poolside patios enable you to take an ocean swim/snorkel to be followed by a dip in the freshwater pool or jetted spa and sun-bathe to the sound of the cascading waterfall. High vaulted open cedar ceilings and an open concept design gives KettleStone an enhanced spaciousness as well as thoughtful natural temperature control. Panoramic views from each suite and the centrally located kitchen enable you to appreciate were you are at all times. Michael believes that if you close a door and you feel as though you could be anywhere that the design has failed. Fully landscaped grounds, sheltered breezeways, ocean patios and terraces and a back patio enable you to enjoy nature front and back. The spectacular sunrises have to be seen to be believed. Welcome to KettleStone!
