Once again, we are really pleased that the house has proved a pleasure for people. We are not always there to receive visitors--in fact it is only in a minority of cases but the Italian couple who look after the house in our absence, generally call in every two days to ensure that people are happy and comfortable. There is a television actually, but I had not thought to put it in the trullo!

I am delighted that my trullo pleased and provided all the requirements of a good holiday. It is a perfect family home with its dual amenities and its easy access to places of interest without having to navigate unmade roads or spend a long time journeying. I am pleased that the house, it's pool and location pleased the guests. It is, as the description suggests, much more comfortable for six people who can sleep in the two large double beds and two singles. Four adults and two children is perfect, for example. Using the sofa bed is ok but not ideal as it occupies the living room. The bedrooms are air conditioned too. Perhaps a larger property would have been advisable for 7 people.

It is great to know that another young group has enjoyed our house and found everything they needed there. This visitor was one of four friends ( two couples) to stay there.

I am delighted that our most recent guests have enjoyed the house and its location. The pool is new and we have enjoyed planting the surrounding garden, so I am pleased that our guests found it an asset. It is very private and totally peaceful and I was hoping people would enjoy it just as we have. Ceglie is well-provided with good and varied eateries which are not hard on the pocket. It is obligatory to try them as these guests have!! Thank you for your obvious pleasure in our little home.

I am very disappointed to receive this poor review, the first in 19 years. I am responding personally to the guest as I would not wish to detail everything here for public view. Many of the issues would have been resolved with better two-way communication; the guest taking notice of all the details which had been sent and arriving in time to go through the official check-in procedure.

Thank you for this lovely review. It is a real risk hiring a place for such a long stay and such an important occasion. We are very happy that it all worked well for you and that you found our house a happy place to be. We love it and want our visitors to as well. We are seriously considering bicycles but cyclists would need to take extra care as drivers in this part of Italy are a little more than crazy!!

I am, of course, devastated by this review. However, there are some points I would like to make in response. The guests made the mistake of booking before asking any questions. They started asking ten days before arriving. They appeared not to have read the details as the description clearly states that there are only two bedrooms but that the sofa divan in the living room can provide for two extra people if required. The price for six works out at £33 a night and the house is obviously better equipped for four, although there are eight dining chairs, two garden tables and a huge indoor table for six, ample crockery and five loungers/ deck chairs as well as three rocking chairs, two kitchens and two bathrooms. The dining chair was broken by the guests and not admitted to or paid for. This is not just a rental property but our second home so our sheets and towels, though new, if for showering, are not all the clinical white of a rental house. They are coloured. Some of the pool towels are older and most guests are glad of them, especially as there is a dozen and people do not have to travel with their own. Within an hour of arriving, the guest wanted to leave.At this point they were offered a 50% refund if they did not like the other option of extra pillows and pool umbrella. I had no obligation to offer anything as a refund but they chose to stay. As everyone can see from the pictures and most reviews, the property is perfect for a group of four or four adults with two kiddies. As these guests had four children, one of whom wanted to have private space, it was impossible to provide for them without putting up the sofa divan. This meant that the living room was not like its picture where the sofa is a sofa. I had not been responded to when I asked about how beds should be arranged. The eighth pillow for six sleepers was mistakenly made up of cushions and immediately replaced with two new pillows when I realised. The enormous, paved veranda at the back has comfy seating and shade all day. The pool has paving around it and a path leading to it. The land around is 8000 sq meters of stony ground and consists of fig and olive tree mostly. It is not manicured but very private and great for hide and seek etc depending on the age of the children. During the stay I responded to everything and provided an extra umbrella for the pool. The air conditioning is in two rooms, as the description states. It would be an anachronism in the trullo so two good quality, stainless steel fans are provided to supplement it. I now realise that the pool maintainer and the gardener, despite going early in order to avoid guests, need to be mentioned in my description. I had assumed that the pool garden and the pool would be recognised as maintained areas, which would need to be tended daily, especially in 35 degree heat. After renting for nineteen years and receiving mostly five star reviews, I feel that these guests were particularly difficult to please and had a tendency to exaggerate negatives, rather than make the most of the positives. I am sorry that they could not enjoy their holiday.
