About the property

2 bed, 1 bath, sleeps 4

This is a 2nd floor balcony condo with giant near full wall mirrors in the living room and master bedroom. All rooms have separate air conditioning system and ceiling fans. There are screens on all of the windows. New bed spreads and sheets were brought down at the end of the 2017 season. No one is above you to make noise walking around or sliding chairs in the middle of the night. No one walking by your door gawking inside your condo since you will be one flight up on a balcony overlooking the pool. Two bicycles with locks are included so you have transportation to and from town for grocery shopping. Two private lounges for use in the pool area so you are not sharing public greasy lounges. Beach towels are included as well as 3 fishing poles and tons of hooks, lures, and accessories, plus fins and masks for snorkeling, air mattresses for pool, frisbees, a coffee maker, rice maker, blender, coffee bean grinder for fresh coffee, security safe for storing valuables, all included. This is only condo with such amenities right in front of the largest pool in the area.

A reverse osmosis water treatment has been imported from the US and installed in the kitchen so there is no need to buy bottled water. You have everything you need here at your fingertips.

Master bedroom has a queen bed with memory foam top. Lamp stands and lamps are on either side of the bed. There are separate ceiling fans and air conditioning units in the master bedroom, guest room which has two twin beds, and main living area.

The balcony has 4 chairs, a table, and small circular table for guests. Upstairs balconies are substantially larger than downstairs units that don't have the privacy with people walking by, and the greater likelihood of something you may not want entering your dwelling (occasional iguana, visiting cat, or insects).

The beach is physically just a block away although the walk there is circular amounting to a couple blocks walk.

Grocery stores and restaurants are all within a mile and easy to get to by bicycle or walking. Taxi is only $2 to town.

Cocomarindo condo is a gated community with 24 hour security and guards at the entrance screening all visitors entering the complex.

About Stan Groman

I have been coming to Costa Rica since 1965 when I was in college. In 2004 I decided to purchase a upper condo in the newest development in planning in Coco at the time, Cocomarindo. It took years to complete but was finally finished in 2008. I speak Spanish and welcome guests from anywhere.

Stan Groman purchased this condo in 2008

Why Stan Groman chose Coco

This gated complex is about as close to the beach as you can get and own property. The state owns the first few hundred meters. Being an upper unit in the complex, it is more quiet, private, and has a prettier view from the balcony. It is the only unit offering the amenities we do: near full wall mirrors in the living room and master bedroom. Not caring to smell the odors of foods cooking we put in vents that exit to the exterior in the kitchen and bathroom, added amenities such as bicycles, snorkeling equipment, air mattresses and frisbies to make your stay more enjoyable.

What makes this condo unique

The tropical gardens inside the complex are extremely well groomed and the pool is cleaned every morning and kept clear and balanced chemically so it is seldom if ever cloudy. The complex is well maintained with 24 hour security.

Playa del Coco is not an upscale tourist town but more of a fishing village. One tour book aptly describes it as a scruffy fishing village. Natives see the place as a vacation spot as well as tourists.

I was impressed the people there was friendly and kind. Stan was hands on at all times when ever I needed to phone him and have things done he was available. The only thing I would recommend is up grading the towels and wash clothes which is minor. I loved it my family enjoyed themselves and we would visit again!!

Nice condo/beautiful pool

  • 5 of 5

The condo is on the 2nd floor overlooking the beautiful pool. It has everything you'll need. We used the bikes to ride to town, church, and the grocery stores. It has a water system so you don't need to buy bottled water. The grounds are beautiful and we saw monkeys in the trees around the complex. Stan is very helpful answering any questions you have.

Very well maintained. Clean. Great location.

Bikes our owner provided are all we needed to get groceries, do banking, go to closest beach. Pools are arranged perfectly for doing laps as well as for just hanging out. We look forward to returning.

Owner's Response: It was great having you both. Maria Jose was so excited to have received her first tip ever. She tries so hard to please and was excited that you gave her 5 stars for cleanliness. It made her day! You can't believe how much it meant to her. Stan

Tired and unkempt with unusable gear

  • 3 of 5

Keys were not left at security gate as I was told; there is no secure parking for the unit and I had to park on the busy street outside the gate. Guest are expected to haul their own lounge chairs down to the pool and back daily and only one of two washing machines in the complex works, so washing dirty clothes becomes a contest in this very busy complex. The snorkel gear is so old the carry bags fell apart and the masks are faded, and the fishing tackle is junk. The place is old and ants have taken over the kitchen. Grill was filthy and the starter didn't work. On the plus side the pool is pretty nice and the beach is not too far away, though the walk there is along a busy, dusty roadway. I would look elsewhere if you want to stay around Playa Coco.

Owner's Response: There is much to be said about the comments made by this guest. I as an owner spent the entire month of November 2016 at the condo to repaint the walls; clean, lubricate, and change tires on the bikes, install new brighter ceiling lights in the kitchen and living room, have the AC units serviced, clean all of the outdoor furniture and prepare the unit for winter rental by doing a deep cleaning of floors, walls, and ceilings. The lounges are stored inside the condo so they will be clean when guests arrive. If left outside by the pool, others will use them and in short order they are covered with body sweat and sun tan oils. Had the guests merely asked the manager, he would have carried them down for them. If guests leave partially eaten fruit and food in the garbage and don’t empty it frequently, ants will be a problem. The same if the counters are not wiped clean or people are messy. As for the fishing poles, 3 brand new never used fishing poles and reels were brought by me to the condo 2 months ago so to find fault with them is more likely attributable to a lack of experience. Along with the poles an entire new box of lures, sinkers, leads, hooks, and other fishing related gear were also brought 2 months ago. There is no truth to the statement of there being no secured parking. Because all of the parking spaces inside the complex happened to be taken when this guest arrived and he had to use overflow parking just outside the gate but still on condo premises less than 50 feet from the 24 hour security guard stand, he began his stay upset that he could not park inside and sent complaining emails despite there being security cameras all around the condo with monitors inside security. The condo offers a new DVD and flat screen, ROKU for internet TV and many other amenities, more than any other condo in the complex.

Nice place, very relaxing stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 4 nights during the Christmas holidays with our two teenagers, ages 14 and 19. The place is right of the price. The complex is relatively small (~90 units), with wonderful, lush plants, and occasional monkey visits in the backyard (for nature loving family, this was gigantic plus).

The kitchen and balcony are small, but it all worked out quite well - we cooked simple meals and sat on the balcony playing cards every evening.

The pool is large and clean, but we preferred the beach, which is only 5 minute walk away.

We used bikes on couple of occasions and concluded that it was quite neat to have them - once we went to check out Ocotal beach, another time to get some groceries in town.

The stay was super relaxing, would go again.

Great place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the condo for 3 months and had a wonderful time. The condo complex was very well cared for with many lush plants and a huge pool to swim, stay cool and socialize. The condo was freshly painted with a huge supply of nice towels and sheets, the very tiny kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and we cooked simple meals quite often also using the bbq. The bed was very comfortable and with the fan and the a/c we had no problems with getting a good nights sleep. The on demand water heater worked very well. We had a problem with the a/c and the next day Stan had a technician there to fix it, on our schedule, very efficiently. We spent the shady mornings on our lovely balcony and ate all of our meals there. The beach and many grocery stores are within an easy walk with some lovely fresh fruit markets on the way to town. A taxi anywhere in town cost $2us which was great for bringing groceries home, and the small store next to the gate was great for beer and snacks and basic supplies. There are many tour operators in town making it easy to arrange enjoyable trips. We didnt have far to go to see amazing wildlife. Troupes of howler monkeys would announce their prescence in the trees surrounding the complex in the early evening and travel in the branches playing and eating making a fine show while we watched from the pool. Many birds made their home in the complex with huge iguanas and smaller lizards lazing in the trees. A magical place.

Playa del Coco is more of a native town than tourist center. Described as a scruffy fishing village by a well known tour book, and not a polished Acapulco. You will find yourself mixing with natives of the area. The Mapache boat departing Thursdays is one of the best ways to see the beaches, go snorkeling, kayaking, and sun bathing on pristine beaches away from Coco.
