The location is the home of some 1930 residents and is located 200 miles from Anchorage, 62 miles from Soldotna and 15 miles from Homer, on the west side of the Alaska Kenai Peninsula. This area is world-famous for fishing, including halibut, salmon and steel head trout. The scenery is fantastic with four active volcanoes visible across Cook Inlet and snow covered mountains and glaciers are seen across Kachemak Bay. Explorer Captain James Cook anchored here in 1778, while searching for a northwest passage. About the owner: Bear Paw Adventure has been offering lodging service under the same ownership at this location since 1995, although in the early days this family business was known as Bear Paw Charters. John, Sr is your reservations and pre-check in information contact. John enjoyed working as a professional engineer in the Chemical Industry, primarily in Hydrocarbons and Energy production and on environmental projects before joining John Jr. in this exciting Alaskan adventure. His hobbies include the Alaska outdoor adventures, photography and gardening. Once you arrive at Anchor Point, John, Jr will be your host. John has lived in Alaska since 1986 and has 5 children. He is a carpenter, log furniture and log cabin builder (he built the log buildings at Bear Paw Adventure, starting with beetle-killed spruce trees) and a retired commercial fisherman and sports fishing guide. His hobbies include all the Alaska outdoor adventures including gold prospecting and gardening. He also enjoy sailing in Florida and the Bahamas in the winter months. John has hunted and fished much of Alaska and he is a valuable resource for guests seeking advice about fishing or what to see in Alaska.
Why the Owner Chose Anchor Point, AK, USA:
Bear Paw Adventure’s unique log buildings are situated on 14+ acres of an old homestead site. This use of the property is the first since the homestead days. We have attempted to keep the site, to the extent practical, as we found it. Evidence of the homestead activities can still be seen on the land. The slope of the land protects the property, to some extent, from the brisk winds off Cook Inlet. It is a nearly wild site with lots of spruce trees, alders and wildflower and a great place to watch for moose, eagles, ravens and other wildlife.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The 14+ acre property offers are a great sample of real rural Alaska and the full-scribed log buildings with their Alaskan decor provide interesting and comfortable one-of-a-kind lodging. The busy tourism centers in nearby communities are within easy reach so that guests can enjoy those activities and then retreat their own private Alaska at Bear Paw Adventure. For those who come to Alaska to enjoy nature, this is the place to stay. Bear Paw Adventure offers uniquely Alaskan, first class lodging, located right on top of Alaska’s best fishing, exciting adventures and fantastic scenery. This 14+ acre homestead property is near historic Anchor Point, Gateway to Kachemak Bay, on the west side of the Kenai Peninsula – a 4-1/2 hour drive from Anchorage. The busy tourist centers of Kenai and Homer are minutes away for you to enjoy and then return to this quiet Alaskan environment. Moose, eagles, and ravens are frequently seen among the spruce trees, alders and wildflowers on this homestead that has been kept as wild and natural as possible.
