A little Bit of Heaven in newfoundland

Stayed in bishop house for 3 nights in July. We wanted an old salt box house experience and it's exactly what we got. Beautiful views, great places to walk and relax! Would definitely recommend it to my friends!

Cozy home with beautiful view from every window

  • 5 of 5

If you are visiting Newfoundland, stay here! The house is cozy and located in such an amazing spot in this town. We had everything we needed to cook, relax and and enjoy the area. The house was very clean and furnished perfectly. Previous guests had left brochures for things to do, which was very nice. There was even a bird book lying around, so we could identify all the birds in the bay. We only used one bedroom, but the bed was very comfortable. Salvage is full of hiking trails and is one of the most stunningly beautiful places. Had a wonderful time and would stay again.

Relaxing piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

This spot is gorgeous - there are amazing views of the ocean from almost every room. The property is surrounding by beautiful vegetation, ocean and rocks. Lots to explore - this was even better once we found the bug spray to ward off all the bugs in the yard! The house itself was thoughtfully appointed with all the essentials and more, including great antiques and fun posters of local art. I was aware of a faint presence of mould that is typical of most older houses in this damp climate - to be clear, most people wouldn't notice - I am very sensitive. The owners really thought of everything we'd need and want, including very comfortable beds, delicious coffee and a wide range of stuff to cook with in the kitchen. We enjoyed exploring the communities around Salvage, though a person could easily fill their time going for walks and enjoying the house. I'm looking forward to going back!

Salvage, pronounced Sal-Vage, is one of North America’s oldest continually settled communities. The name Salvage comes from the Spanish word “Salvaje”, which means “savage.” It is thought that the first Spanish explorers came to the area of the present-day town and found it was already occupied by the Beothuks, the native North American group that was dispersed throughout Newfoundland.

Even today, Salvage remains one of Newfoundland's most productive fishing communities. Protected by tall cliffs and having access through a narrow pass to the open ocean, it provides relatively easy access to the fertile fishing grounds of the North Atlantic. From early spring to late fall, the residents of Salvage participate in the seasonal fisheries of Herring, Lobster, Crab, Mackerel, and Caplin. At any time throughout the summer in Salvage, a meal with the freshest seafood is never difficult to find.

Bishop’s Harbour House has overlooked Bishop’s Harbour, Salvage since 1946. Nestled amongst the rocks, the house is well protected yet provides views across Bishop’s Harbour and out the narrow passage to the North Atlantic. BHH is a 1400 square foot, 2 story, 3 bedroom, 1 ½ bathroom waterfront house located just meters away from the gently rolling tidal swings of the Atlantic ocean. The house can sleep 5 comfortably and the two main rooms with double and queen beds have a view of the harbour. The master bedroom on the Southeast corner includes a spectacular view out the narrow harbour passage to the ocean. The upstairs bathroom is fully equipped and includes a Jacuzzi tub in which you can lie back and take in the view of the harbour and the narrows. There is a spacious deck located off the dining and kitchen area on which one can view the sunrise coming over the hills across the expansive harbour in the morning, or enjoy some evening outdoor dining and entertaining.
