My husband and I have had many wonderful vacations exploring Sequoia National Park. We fell in love with the area and when an opportunity came up to purchase Maile's Cottage we made it happen.

Robin Castro purchased this house in 2013

Why Robin Castro chose Sequoia, Kings Canyon

We loved that this property was historic and was in the heart of the quaint town of Three Rivers. The renovation has been a labor of love. We are so happy to have been able to bring this part of Three Rivers heritage back to life for ourselves and others to enjoy.

Peaceful

Perfect location for visiting Sequoia & Kings Canyon. The home had everything we needed for a family of five. Each room was well appointed and so clean! the homemade bread waiting for us when we arrived was so good.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage! When you arrive, you can instantly tell than this is a property someone cares about. Well decorated, very clean, and plenty of personal touches that make you feel right at home (guidebooks, menus for local restaurants, games/DVD's to help relax, outdoor dining space, an "oops" amenity basket just in case, etc). The cottage is older, which gives it tons of charm, but it has been well updated--light and airy, new appliances, nice linens. Very convenient to Sequoia Natl Park--about 5 min to the gate (getting to the trees will take a little longer due to curvy road). Robin did a great job communicating with us, and her instructions were thorough and easy to follow. Fantastic experience--couldn't have asked for anything better for my family (two adults and two boys, ages 7 and 11).

Lovely Time in 3 Rivers

  • 5 of 5

Our family very much enjoyed the cottage at Three Rivers. Robin was attentive, helpful and accommodating in every way! Our adult family of 5 stayed there very comfortably. The house is cozy, warm and thoughtfully decorated. It is well supplied with what you will need. The home made sour dough bread that Robin left for us was very much appreciated! The beds were comfortable and the house was clean and welcoming. The outdoor area was a lovely place to gather as a family. We were in Three Rivers for a family wedding, and the cottage proved to be the perfect place to stay. We made eggs in the morning with the farm fresh eggs we purchased from Robin. We ate lunches at the salad and sandwich place across the street - fresh and tasty! We hiked in the Sequoia National Forest the day after the wedding, and it was a lovely and memorable weekend. Thank you for sharing this cottage with us!!

Delightful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

It is a delightful cottage to stay in. The kitchen is fully equipped. We did not get to meet Robin but she had written us a personal note and she had fresh baked bread waiting for us. We loved staying at the cottage as we explored the area.

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

I booked Maile's Cottage for two nights and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the overall comfort of the house. It is a huge property with enough beds to accommodate a large family. I felt it literally like my home away. Everything you need and more is available for you to use. I can't stress enough how clean the house was when I checked in, it was immaculate. Location is also a plus, it is just 2 miles away from Sequoia National Park entrance and about 30 minutes to the top of the Giants Forest. Robin was always open to recommend local delicatessen and went the extra mile in offering her assistance for anything else we may needed. I strongly recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice accommodation.

Owner's Response: Diego, Thank you for all the compliments - I will be sure to pass on my housekeeper how happy you were with the cleanliness. It's funny - when you look at the outside of the cottage, it doesn't look that big...but when you go inside you realize that it can very comfortably accommodate 8 guests. Please come and stay again if you travel this way. ~Robin~

Established in 1890, Sequoia National Park is California's first national park and America's second oldest. With more than 1 million annual visitors, Sequoia National Park is a popular destination for guests from around the world. Filled with pristine wilderness, giant trees, and terrain that invite engagement and adventure, it's a place where friends and family can enjoy the great outdoors together. Sequoia Sightseeing Tours introduce visitors to this awe-inspiring park with expert local guides who know it well. There are more than 800 miles of Sequoia hiking trails for people of every ability and inclination, from gentle ambles among giant sequoias to moderate day hikes and full-throttle ascents. Fly fishing, stargazing, and spelunking are on the itinerary. And when winter makes it's magical arrival at the park's higher elevation, Sequoia recreation expands to include showshoeing, cross-country skiing, and sledding. Take a leisurely drive after breakfast and climb the 300 foot stair to the summit of Moro Rock where you will enjoy sweeping views of the western half of the Sequoia National Park. Or, visit Crystal Cave, a treasure-cavern of ornate marble polished by subterranean streams and decorates with curtains of icicle-like stalactites and mounds of stalagmites. After your daily adventures return home to the peace and quiet of 'Maile's Cottage'. Enjoy your BBQ in the back garden and dine while watching the sun set over the magical Sierra peaks.
