Beautiful setting, historic log cabin, felt like a true winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was exactly what we needed to get out and enjoy a Minnesota winter as a family! On a lake for ice fishing, on snowmobile trails, gorgeous setting for snowshoeing, fire pit for outdoor warmth all of this in one tranquil place! The cabin is beautiful, historic and yet also updated, including a fully stocked (with all dishes, etc) kitchen. Plus this place was immaculately clean! We loved this as a winter getaway!

Beautiful location, disappointing interior

  • 3 of 5

For the location and the feeling of being in the wild outdoors, you really can't beat Marcell Lodge. We loved the lake and the boats and sitting outside in the evenings. However, the inside is very dark with poor natural light. We also found the kitchen lacking a few basics- for example we had to go out and but wine glasses and the overall glass and mug provision was inadequate for 10 of us. Overall, we had a great time, but the lodge could do with some updating and replenishing in the kitchen.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. We take reviews constructively and accepted your suggestion and will have some wine glasses available for future guests. Please keep in mind that the Lodge is on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1935 and went through very extensive upgrades and updates in 2014 that had to meet special criteria and most guests have been extremely complimentary about the interior and updated amenities of this unique and elegant historic building.

Exceeded my expectation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family week at the Lodge was wonderful! The Lodge is gorgeous, spacious and just so special historically! Great fishing, swimming and the sandbox for the kids was a huge hit! Great boats provided. Enjoyed the bonfire pit every night!

Staff was extremely friendly and very prompt on our request for more wood!

My family and I loved it and will be back!

Amazing Cabin and Area!

  • 5 of 5

We had heard great things about this cabin and property from friends that had stayed here before. The cabin is beautiful and has all the accommodations you will need for an amazing getaway. The washer and dryer is a fabulous bonus and was appreciated since we have a larger family (5 kids)! The kitchen is beautiful and there are plenty of bedrooms and beds and dressers. The cabin is nicely maintained, clean and stocked with just about everything you need (from kitchen appliances to bed and bath linens and life jackets for adults and kids).

As a bonus, you get a nice boat and motor (normally an extra $50/day at most resorts) as well as a canoe and a paddleboat (kids loved the paddleboat)! The fishing was great as we caught a lot of pan fish and quite a few nice sized bass. We also enjoyed being able to walk to the naturalist programs held periodically. The nearby town of Marcell has a nice cafe and a very nice bait shop and convenience store.

Everyone was extremely nice and overall it exceeded our expectations! I would definitely recommend this cabin, especially if you have kids!
