About Daniel and Susan McMains

Our names are Daniel and Susan McMains. We currently live in Apex, NC. We both grew up in the Apex - Raleigh areas. Our home property is close by The Wooden Shoe.

Daniel and Susan McMains purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Daniel and Susan McMains chose Apex

After living in this area most of our lives and raising our family. When this beautiful home became available we knew we could not pass it up. Our very close friends and their young children were relocated after purchasing this home. They blessed us with a once in a life time opportunity to purchase this beautiful cabin. We decided to furnish it (in the hopes of them moving back) and until that time share it with others. When we asked our friends son, Logan, what we should name the cabin he said 'The Wooden Shoe'. When he was asked why he chose that name he said 'because it just fits'. It is our hope that you our guest will just fit right in and enjoy your stay.

What makes this cabin unique

We will refer you to our gallery to show you why we think this is so unique.

(***We are not set up at this time as a wedding venue***)

This cabin makes a wonderful place for a family vacation, anniversary weekend, birthday weekend, small group retreats, business trips, or great alternative to a hotel stay. Also makes a simple place to just unwind and relax. So we hope you will enjoy your stay at The Wooden Shoe.

Log cabin with all the comforts of home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 (plus our dog) stayed at the Wooden Shoe for a 5 day baseball tournament. It was a wonderful place in a great, easily accessible location. We were so lucky to have such a comfortable place to rest and regroup in between games while the rest of the team was dealing with basic hotel rooms. This would also be a great place to stay in the colder months - we were drying to use the gorgeous stone fireplace but it was July. Dan and Susan were very quick to help with any issues, and even brought us tons of fresh delicious corn from their field! We HIGHLY recommend this house!

Well run property!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Dan and Susan’s home while our daughter was attending lacrosse camp at Univ of North Carolina for the week. The home is in a great location... felt secluded yet close to anything we could need. Didn’t get to enjoy the property as much as we wanted to as we went back and forth to Chapel Hill a bunch of times. While we were there, we found it to be very clean, comfortable and relaxing. The grounds were beautiful! Morning coffee on the porch was our favorite. Our other daughter staying with us loved the puzzle closet, feeding the fish and walking our dog around outside. We would love to come back one day!

Easy to access and wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Nice quiet acreage with a pond and yet close to everything we needed to get to during our stay. We will absolutely try to return next time we are in town visiting family!

Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful property, helpful owners, close enough to shopping but far enough away from the busyness of the nearby residential areas. We didn't venture out much except for our niece's wedding and food. We found ourselves just enjoying our time relaxing on the front porch, and catch and release fishing in the pond. (Thank you, Dan, for the worms.) Even our pup enjoyed exploring the wide open spaces. We extended our stay for another day just because we didn't want to leave the peaceful setting.
