About Daniel and Susan McMains

Our names are Daniel and Susan McMains. We currently live in Apex, NC. We both grew up in the Apex - Raleigh areas. Our home property is close by The Wooden Shoe.

Daniel and Susan McMains purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Daniel and Susan McMains chose Apex

After living in this area most of our lives and raising our family. When this beautiful home became available we knew we could not pass it up. Our very close friends and their young children were relocated after purchasing this home. They blessed us with a once in a life time opportunity to purchase this beautiful cabin. We decided to furnish it (in the hopes of them moving back) and until that time share it with others. When we asked our friends son, Logan, what we should name the cabin he said 'The Wooden Shoe'. When he was asked why he chose that name he said 'because it just fits'. It is our hope that you our guest will just fit right in and enjoy your stay.

What makes this cabin unique

We will refer you to our gallery to show you why we think this is so unique.

(***We are not set up at this time as a wedding venue***)

This cabin makes a wonderful place for a family vacation, anniversary weekend, birthday weekend, small group retreats, business trips, or great alternative to a hotel stay. Also makes a simple place to just unwind and relax. So we hope you will enjoy your stay at The Wooden Shoe.

We are only able to do rentals 30 nights and less.

Owner's Response: The blessing of having the VRBO so many times is the people that we meet to get an opportunity to spend time in there lives especially during a very special occasion. One of the greatest gifts I think the Wooden Shoe has to offer is like what the little boy that named it the wooden shoe. I asked him why and he says because it just fits anybody that comes. This is evidently true especially seeing your son enjoys such a great time of fishing. Thank you for blessing our lives like that.

Extremely well-run VRBO

  • 5 of 5

Susan and Dan were most personable as well as helpful. The first day here Dan brought us fresh eggs from his chickens and a half pound of his favorite coffee! Their log cabin here was very well stocked in the kitchen which was great for us as we cook most of our meals as opposed to eating out. The location actually worked very well for us getting to Cary to see our daughter as we were able to use Jenks Road and Old Jenks Road which essentially parallels 64. According to maps this routes might be 2 minutes longer than the highway. This really paid off during rush hour traffic times. Being on a large lot and separated from other households provided a very peaceful and quiet atmosphere for my husband and I. Hearing just the wind chimes hanging on the porch was just fine with us. As it was very unseasonably cold here, it was great to have plenty of wood to burn in the stove to keep it warm and cozy in here. This would be a great place for families as there is a bedroom with bunk beds, a pond for fishing, a large place for kids to run, and a game closet fully stocked.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the very nice review we really did enjoy y'all's stay as well. My wonderful wife sure has worked hard to make sure people stay there is like being at home thank you for the compliment with the game closet and the movies she really puts a lot of time into that. I'm so glad you did enjoy the eggs and the great LA minita peaberry coffee. I am so glad you enjoyed the fireplace it truly is a special warm cozy place in that living room.

Well appointed home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This property is a lovely home, with all needed furnishing and numerous special touches scattered throughout. We will recommend this property to any friends or family needing a quiet respite, but wanting to remain close to grocery or RTP activities. The owners are nearby and very prompt in responding to questions. Overall a wonderful experience!

Charming home in a peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

It was a perfect setup for a reunion of 3 couples who have been friends for 30 years. The home was extremely well appointed and had everything we needed from comfortable beds to plush towels to all our kitchen needs. We especially enjoyed morning coffee on the porch and meals around the dining table. Dan and Susan were gracious hosts! We’ll be back.
