Updated Fly Fishing Cabin on the Gold Medal South Platte by Deckers Co. WiFi/HBO

Bedrooms 2
Space 650 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Sleeps 5+ w/ King, Queen, Twin and AreoBed. Only cabin in area with WiFi/Sat TV

Updated cabin 200 feet from the South Platte River, with WifI, phone and HBO and room AC. I accept 90% of requests if the dates are open. Include useful info on yourselves and your fellow users when inquiring, please. We are one mile north of Decker's in the community of Trumbull. Located along miles of public access Gold Medal trout fishing, this is a great place to start and finish your fishing or float day on the river. The river is a 5 minute walk from the front door. This river is fishing great (Rainbows and Browns over 18"' are common) and if you don't get out early, you will miss the good spots, so this property is perfect for the fisherman. The cabin is remodeled and has a full modern kitchen, dining table, couch and easy chair and a Big Screen TV with Dish and WiFi (if you like seeing your e-mail, this is the only So. Platte cabin for you)). The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans and dishware. Gas range/oven, microwave, refrigerator, toaster oven, coffee pot and dining table. There are some condiments available, Toilet paper, paper towels, dish towels and other misc items are onsite.

One private bedroom with a King water bed, a bedroom with a Twin, and a Queen pull-out couch w/ extra foam topper.

Newer Bath with shower. There is a porch for donning and removing/drying fishing gear. It is a great sleeping porch.. While there is a window AC unit in the living room, it is rare that the nights are too warm, so open the windows and enjoy the fresh air. You can hear birds and frogs at night and will see deer and occasional elk on or near the property.

There is a large covered gazebo for relaxing and having a beer while you grill your dinner. There is no cell service in the valley- there is a phone at the cabin.

This is offered to responsible adults for fishing, and quiet enjoyment. Have a few beers but don't be jerks, and you are welcome back!

Depending on how you utilize the beds, it can sleep 3 to 6. That is the maximum I will allow. A dog is an option, for small additional fee. As a dog owner, I know how nice it is to bring your dog. I have a fenced area and dog door for your pet's use. If your dog barks too much, and offends the few neighbors I have, I will terminate your visit. Please be considerate. Keep pets off the furniture for the sake of other guests.

Tubing on the river is popular and safe as the river is usually less than 3 feet deep but deeper holes do exist. A tuber can run down 10 miles of river if they choose. The water is dam controlled so it is rarely running fast but if you have children under 14 years old, I require a life jacket. You need to provide your own watercraft and life vests.

A small restaurant, a liquor store, a general store and fly shop are 1 mile away. Ask me about guided fly fishing!

About Art Momper

I live in Littleton Co and use this cabin myself. I take Combat Wounded Veterans hunting and fishing in Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska, so I cannot use it as often and I decided to 'share' my cabin. Ask about discounts for military and wounded warriors.

Why Art Momper chose Sedalia

There are limited rental choices and most of the rental properties in the area are very basic, and have no WiFi/e-mail. This is a nice property with all the comforts including WiFi and HBO and Big Screen TV, land line phone, full kitchen, newer bath, and covered gazebo outside for shade and dining. There is NO CELL SERVICE in this valley so if you want to communicate to anyone outside, this cabin is the only choice!

What makes this cabin unique

Location is excellent- walk to fishing. Off the river a few hundred feet, so not as much traffic or activity to disturb you. Sits a bit higher so you have a good view.

The perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful drive to the enclave of Trumbull! The original cabin exterior has been maintained while the inside has all the comforts of home and then some! A great place to chill inside and out. The views of the mountains and river are awesome, the outside activity areas are perfect for reading or playing or just watching the NOT so shy deer, fishing and hiking almost right outside the door. Watching the sunset from the bench swing on the hill is a treat- then in for a cocktail and the World Series on the awesome TV! Thanks, Art, it was perfect. Rustic enough to relax, but so many amenities you don't have to work at it!

Owner's Response: Thanks Kathy! You found the high perch up the hill, which has the best views. Sometimes it seems the deer will eat out of your hand. A few years back a huge buck walked by me as I stood in the porch doorway. I could have grabbed his antler. His eyes were on another buck wooing his does. Neat wildlife moment. I hope you guys come again.

Cozy cabin near a national forest and fishing streams

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is nice and cozy, kept clean and in good shape, has all the standard amenities, and is in a great location. It's steps from a stream for fly fishing, and the property backs up to a national forest with a small hiking trail right behind the property. Hundreds of trails for hiking, MTBing, etc are within an hour drive (and quite a few 10-20 minutes away). The location is not particularly remote - the immediate surrounding area is kind of like a mini-subdivision with a number of cabins in close view. But after a short walk in the woods all you'll see is nature. The WiFi works well, is fast and is a welcome amenity (assuming you aren't looking to disconnect, by design).

The cabin is very much "lived in" by the owner; he keeps a number of personal items there (clothes, food, toiletries, gear, etc), and there is limited space to store your own items. The place is set up to primarily be his personal cabin, not a rental. This isn't necessarily a problem, just something to be aware of, as it may not be what you are used to. The owner provides detailed and very specific instructions about using the cabin and how he wants things to be treated. These can feel a bit intense, but as long as you are respectful of his property and his preferences, it's all good.

Do be aware that the main bed is a water bed, which can feel strange if you are not used to it. There are other sleeping options (fold out couch and a twin bed w/ memory foam mattress). If none of those works for you, you'll probably want to look elsewhere.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the place to others, especially those looking to fish as it's clearly a great location for that. Just be aware that there are a few things that are a bit different from your average rental; as long as they work for you it's a good place to get away.

Owner's Response: Greg- when we communicated during your stay you said everything was good and you were having a great time, so I was surprised to only get a 4 star review. Everything you commented on is clearly shown in the VRBO ad, including the location. The cabin is not a pure rental, and I do use it occasionally and I take combat wounded vets there as well. The decor is shown in the pictures and several reviews have commented on how much people like the interior. I do have some written rules and 'how to use' information, for which I usually get complements for the clarity and help. If you ever put a property out for rental I am sure you would also have reasonable requests of your guests. As for the 'space', you stayed a week and that is much more stuff to bring than the usual 2-4 day stay. I have not had a complaint about space in years. Lastly, the water bed is a 'top of the line' flotation mattress, heated, firm and supportive. It is the best option for a bad back. It too is clearly stated in the ad, so no surprise. Thanks for your business and Have a Happy New Year.

cozy rustic cabin with all the modern touches in a beautiful peaceful valley.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin, Art is very easy to deal with, quick response to our questions. The cabin looks rustic from the outside, very comfortable and very well thought out on the inside. Well done, we enjoyed our stay, the outside patio was great, spent a gentle rainy afternoon watching the clouds and shadows travel threw the valley. A very peaceful setting. Thanks for sharing. TMc.

Owner's Response: Thanks Ted. The exterior of the cabin originated in the 30's and was added to in the 50's. I retained that look on purpose but the entire interior is new. Remember that old TV show Green Acres where the exterior was rustic and the interior was awesome? Kind of like that. Glad you enjoyed.

Another great stay

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd time staying at the cabin. It was as charming as I remember it being. Rustic little place with lots of modern amenities . Immpecibly clean and inviting. Perfect for anglers or for somebody just looking for a short getaway. The screened in porch is awesome for gearing up and storing your equipment. Close proximity to the river, nice veiws, big covered outdoor sitting/dining area and friendly neighbors! Most of all, I love that my dog is a welcome guest here!

Updated cabin with WiFi and HBO and phone on the South Platte River between Denver and Colorado Springs, CO. Pike National Forest, Hiking, mountain biking. OHV, ATV and dirt bike riding nearby at Ramparts Range and Sprucewood.

Try tubing on the river, and swimming in the Platte. This is a 'tailwater river', meaning it is flow controlled by a dam, so it is rarely running at levels that are difficult to handle. In Spring and early summer, the river runs several feet deep to spots 4-5' deep. Later in the summer, it may only be 2-3 foot deep in the main channels. It still fishes great. Watch for Bald Eagles in season! You will see the occasional Osprey eating a trout! Ducks, geese and hummingbirds are frequent.

Castle Rock is 35 minutes away, Denver is 50 minutes and Woodland Park/Colorado Springs is 40 minutes south. The nearest town is Buffalo Creek, 25-30 minutes, with limited services. Gas and one restaurant.
