We went to Newcastle to climb the Mournes, so the location of the house is incredibly close. It was the perfect choice for our break, a home from home. A few minutes walk and we were in the centre of town where we found great bars and restaurants. Highly recommended for a quiet place to stay and relax.
Met Jay when we arrived who explained all to us. Lovely wee bolt hole for us as we were in the mountains all weekend so was very convenient. Very comfortable and clean. Would definitely use again
Much bigger than I expected. Very quiet just as I like it.
Host wasn’t intrusive but was very friendly.
Will book the petite house again in future visits.
Hi I stayed for 3 nights at La Petite and although I didn't meet the owner in person, I found the accommodation to be in excellent condition with everything one could want for a short stay provided - it was quiet, comfortable & cozy and the wheaten bread, butter & jam was a perfect after our 2 hour drive on Sunday evening! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Newcastle & I would highly recommend this property to anyone thinking of visiting this area. If I visit this area again I will definately come back here if it's available or not booked.
The whole booking process and communication was very smooth, jay the owner, was very kind and let us check in a bit early which really helped our plans with the wedding we were attending. The place was clean and comfortable and had anything needed for a short stay. The surrounding area is beautiful and the directions given were first class. The price was great too considering the price of some of the local hotels. There was lots of information provided about the surrounding area and activities and ammenaties. Overall we had a fantastic overnight stay in the property and would highly recommend to anyone.
Thanks Jay
Lovely place to stay. As an elderly person (70) with mobility problems the bed was too low but that was my problem not yours! Bathroom was great. The kitchen had everything we needed. The facilities were super. We wondered why the family always blocked the entrance in the evening. We congratulate you on the property. You deserve credit. We hope to be back! We will recommend to our friends. Great website! We’ve had a great stay. Thank you. Jennifer Campbell.
Was working close by with long unsociable hrs which didn't let me see much of the area
But my host and the accommodation more than made up for that 😁😁
My only grumble is the vrdo webb site which I have to say I did find it not very user friendly Espically when trying to contact host Espically when out of nvormal working hrs.
Host and accommodation hight recommended 👍👍👍👍
Good communication.. easy key handover ... clean, all gadgets working... nice shower. Short walk to sea front or town centre. Local store for essentials. Scenery fantastic. Mountains, forest and sea all nearby. Taxis reasonable and plentiful and local private shuttle service (blacksheep) to drop off/pick up from walks. Reasonable cost and helpful. Overall a great stay!
I could not recommend this property enough. I stayed for 1 night with my husband and 9 month baby and it was just perfect. It had everything we needed and more. Jason and his wife were so helpful. Ideal location only wish we could have stayed longer.
Home from home with fantastic scenery as an added bonus. Jay and Sophie have thought of everything and if not, you only needed to ask. Thank you for a lovely week, even the weather was kind to us. I’d give you a score of 5+ if I could.
Jason was so nice and very helpful! Loved the la petite house and would definitely come back here in my future travels.

Fab place to stay for a walking holiday
La Petite House is ideal for 2 people, enough space, well equipped and quiet. Excellent location whether you want to go walking up in the hills or have ice cream in the city centre/on the beach.
Jason and his family were very friendly hosts and made sure they were always contactable. Everything was well organised from directions how to find the place to lots of information about activities in Newcastle and the wider area. Thanks for having us!

Excellent and definitely will come back
The place is very nice and cozy. 10 min walk to town. Mace the convenience store is just 3 min walk away. The petite house had everything you need even a stove top expresso pot.
Jay the owner is very helpful and available if you need anything. The welcome local baked wheat bread with Ham and butter with tea, coffee and milk is a very nice touch. 👍🏻😀

About the host
Hosted by The Owner/Property Manager
My partner Sophie & I have travelled to over 33 countries on 6 continents. From the Killing Fields of Cambodia to lining up to meet the Sultan of Brunei, trekking for 20 days in the magnificent Himalayas & exploring India by train (twice!) are just a few personal highlights. We have now 2 beautiful daughters (12 & 14 years old) which will only change how we travel not stop us travelling. We still have so many beautiful places yet to explore! We hope our travelling experiences reflect in how we have set up & how we run our little place.
Why they chose this property
Getting Around
The bus station is a 20min minute walk with links to Belfast, Dublin and elsewhere. The Mourne Rambler Bus Service circles the Mourne Mountains in the summer months usually between the start of May and end of August.
Another great way to discover the Mournes is the Mournes Shuttle Bus Service. It can pick you up at your desired car park and take you out to the start point of your route so you can walk back to the car, meaning you will no longer be restricted to the circular routes and can explore many of the fantastic linear ones in the area also. The shuttle service runs throughout the whole year, every weekend and can be requested during the week also. In the summer months of July and August the service will be available 7 days a week. And Peter, the proprietor is a fountain of knowledge of the area!
