About Todd and Kim Dunlap

Our family purchased this property in June of 1975 as a summer lake cabin. 2016 brings 40+ years at the lake. Our family and friends enjoy it much of the year but there are pockets of time that you can enjoy it too. You will find remnants of Dad's love of flowers with everything from spring tulips to tiger lily's and sunflowers to enjoy for fresh cut flowers at the table. Our own home is just 10 minutes away. Lots of memories here from the past and many to be made in the future. We can remember when the railroad used to go along the back of the property and blow its horn (now the Paul Bunyan trail).

Todd and Kim Dunlap purchased this cottage in 1975

Why Todd and Kim Dunlap chose Gull Lake

Come and enjoy this park like setting. Lake Hubert is known to be crystal clear and is home to famous Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert. Maybe it will be the bright red Cardinal or the hummingbird at the feeder, the loons by the dock or a walk down the Paul Bunyan trail to the old Train Depot that you will fall in love with. You will want to return again in the future. Everyone that has stayed has mentioned the great beach and how much they enjoyed their stay. The water is deep enough for your boat and the property does NOT sit right on a busy road.

What makes this cottage unique

Four seasons of fun and relaxation, a cup of coffee on a brisk morning or a cold libation on a steamy afternoon sitting on the front deck area or on the dock, floating on a tube, laying in the sun on the large sand beach, listening to the pop of a fire in the fire pit, roasting marshmallows, taking a nap while the boys are golfing or fishing or while the gals are uptown shopping.

Great family adventure!

  • 4 of 5

Great place and accommodations were great! My granddaughter loved the bike trail and I used it for walking that was just next to the property. The lake was great and especially my son and his wife enjoyed fishing and we all enjoyed going for boat rides as a family. Nisswa was great for going for ice cream and shopping. Great place!

Great vacation cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year in a row staying at this beautiful, clean, well maintained cabin! A great destination for us, from South Georgia, to enjoy the cooler summer weather. Our family of four enjoyed everything this location had to offer...boating, swimming, fishing, biking, grilling, and sitting by the fire pit at night roasting s'mores. Knowing such thoughtful owners take pride in the maintenance on the inside as well as outside of this cabin shows...and is appreciated!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your second year at the lake. To travel that far you for a vacation at the lake tells us you must enjoy Lake Hubert and all the great things the Nisswa lakes area brings. The picture of the big bass you sent was awesome. Such a big smile your son had in the picture. Thanks for returning and hope to see you again. Let us know. We are already getting 2017 responses.

Wonderful vacation, beautiful home and location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 stayed for 1 week and had a wonderful time. It is easily accessible from the main highway, is easy to find and is very close to grocery stores and restaurants including the charming town of Nisswa - great coffee shop and pizza!

The property is right on the Paul Bunyan trail which is great for getting around and going on long bike rides. Despite this, the property has a great private feel and the grounds are kept in incredible shape - beautiful flowers and grass. The location on the lake front is beautiful.

The dock is well maintained and the water is one of the clearest lakes we've been on. We fished right from the dock and had a great time hanging out on the beach with a nice fire. The lake is interesting in that it is a very pretty lake with great water but isn't very busy which is wonderful!

We rented a paddle board and used the canoe which is on-site and had a great time in the water. The house is the perfect lake house. It is well maintained and incredibly well stocked. The grill works great, all of the grilling tools are there, the kitchen has everything you need from dishwasher detergent to garbage bags to a lot of plates and glasses and coffee mugs. The house is very clean and well organized.

The bathroom is nicely sized and the shower has great water pressure which is somewhat rare for lake homes. The kids stayed in the larger of the two rooms which has a full bed and a bunk bed. The bunk bed is fantastic and the kids loved it. All of the beds were comfortable with clean linens. The air conditioning worked great which was nice as it was hot a few of the days. We used the washer and dryer in the basement and both worked great.

In conclusion, a beautiful home on a beautiful lake. Perfectly maintained, very clean, and well stocked. The property is very large compared to many lake homes and is beautiful with lush flowers, and garden, and nice green grass.

Owner's Response: Thanks for all your kind words. The 9" rain storm that took place while you were there was something that we have not seen in our over 40 years at the lake. Glad you utilized the Paul Bunyan Bike trail that runs along side our property. Your kids seemed to enjoy their week during the day at the hockey camp that is just down the road. This gave the two of you the days to do couples things together. Hope to see you again.

Fabulous Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our end of school year getaway and can't wait to return. The property is private and very well maintained. The kids could not get enough of the enormous clean sandy beach. The lake slope dropped off perfectly to allow for my 6 and 8 year old children to jump from the dock and still have water deep enough to park our 21 foot boat on the dock. Even though we did bring our boat, we really didn't need it. The kids enjoyed swimming right from the sandy shore during the day and fished right from the dock in the evenings. They were ecstatic to catch crappie, bass, and sunnies without even leaving the dock. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The town of Nisswa was a great place to spend a day. We made good use of the state trail which we gained access to simply by walking & biking to the end of the winding driveway. Perfect location!

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay. When we met your family on check in day it was great to see your family already relaxing and enjoying the beach. It was great to have you already talking about returning again. It was too bad the summer of 2016 was already filled up. Look to see you in 2017.

Great Location - Wonderful Home!

  • 5 of 5

This place is wonderful. We have rented many properties in this area and this one by far has been the best. The home is very cozy and super clean. The yard is well maintained and has beautiful landscaping and flower gardens. It is also has large trees on each side that provide privacy from adjacent neighbors. The owners are very customer-focused and welcoming. They truly want their guests to enjoy their stay and are quick to respond to any questions or needs their guests may have. The property location on Lake Hubert is such that it was not noisy with jet skis or speed boats even though we were able to see people enjoying those activities on the lake. The sandy beach was great for the kids to build sand castles or to have a fire in the evening and enjoy the moon. It is located right by the Paul Bunyan bike trail and we rode to Pequot Lakes which was not difficult as the trail is relatively flat. I cannot say enough about how great the house is and would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words. We were surprised how quickly the few open times that we rent filled up this summer. It was great to see your family come together from both coasts of the USA to enjoy a family wedding, the Brainerd/Nisswa lakes area and our lake property. It is always great to get away and we strive to make your stay enjoyable. People are already looking to fill those few spots next summer. Hope to see you again.

Romantic Winter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My new wife and I did almost a week getaway to the cabin. The cabin was clean, cozy, and quiet, making it perfect for a relaxing getaway. The cabin was impressively decorated for the season, which was fun and a nice touch. We cannot comment on many of the outside amenities, except that the Paul Bunyan trail was very close! The cabin has a great location! Off the main road, but not too far, making trips to Nisswa, Brainerd, or Gull Lake easy. This was key for us who like to see new places. The cabin was great for the two of us and we would consider going back!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your mini honey moon. It is a peaceful place in the winter months. Nisswa is a great place to visit for shopping and food and the surrounding area offers other great food options too. Safe ice fishing typically starts mid-December. Whether it is walleye, crappies or sunnies a potential fish fry is always possible. For those that enjoy the outdoors the lake and the Paul Bunyan Trail offers adventures whether for an hour or the day. You can enjoy your snowmobile, cross country skis or snowshoes as well as the new fad of fat tire biking. Hope to see you again.
