Quiet Cabin in NE PA near Elk Mountain/Easy Drive from Philly and New York City

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,500 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

1500 sq. ft 3-bedroom cedar cabin on 4 acres in rural northeast Pennsylvania

Discover the very beautiful Endless Mountain region in Northeastern PA. Situated above the Poconos, you will find quaint country towns, antique shops, art, music, historical sites, scenic country roads, long lazy rivers, game lands, trout streams and a plethora of restaurants.

The cabin is 1500 sq. ft. located on four very private acres situated on a bluff situated above a thickly wooded, country lane. The owners do not live on site, so you have full access to the cabin and property. While only 7 miles from historic Susquehanna and just a few minutes from the state highway, you will feel miles away from civilization. Your dog is welcome too!

This well-appointed cabin features a fully equipped kitchen with oven, stove, refrigerator, blender, toaster, microwave, crock pot, and all of the plates, glasses, pots and pans you will need. Coffee drinkers can choose between the Keurig and the traditional coffee maker. The living room features a nice wood burning fireplace, flat screen television (with a ROKU and about 20 local channels - no cable) and plenty of comfy seating. There are two large bedrooms upstairs with a total of 5 twin beds, 1 double bed, and futons for the kids. There are two full bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. There is a smaller bedroom downstairs that has been converted to a sitting lounge with games, books, karaoke and bar supplies. Set up your laptop there and take advantage of the flat screen monitor and fast, free Wi-Fi.

A large porch wraps around two sides of the cabin - the front is covered for rainy days while the side has an outdoor table for dining under the stars. Roast some marshmallows over the fire pit, play a leisurely game of badminton, throw some horseshoes or simply relax out on the lawn chairs and take in the views. Nights are typically clear and cool for stargazing through the cabin’s telescope.

Guests have four full acres to roam on the property, as well country roads for biking (there are two bikes for your use), trails for hiking (Florence Shelley Nature Preserve, Salt Springs State Park, D&H Rail Trail), nearby state game lands, trout streams, golf courses, and much more. The woods feature cherry, maple, ash and soaring pine trees as well as a wide variety of animals including deer, fox, turkey, and black bear. Like to fish? There are trout streams nearby and a few public access lakes. Have a canoe or kayak? The Susquehanna River is down the road. There are State Game Lands throughout Susquehanna County for deer and turkey hunting in the fall. It is also near the brand new Aaronic Priesthood Restoration Site.

Guests do not need to meet with the owner to check in. There is a keypad on the door. No key exchange needed. Directions provided upon booking.

Please note that we do not provide sheets and towels, in that there is no washer/dryer on site. However, there are plenty of comforters, blankets, and pillows provided. There are laundromats nearby for longer term guests.

The heat is electric baseboard and controlled in each room through a wall thermostat.

This beautiful property is just waiting for your arrival! We respectfully request that you treat this property with the same respect that you do your own home. Please clean up as needed, take garbage, and leave the furnishings as they were upon check-in. Please note that we do have the cabin professionally cleaned after each rental. Be careful with the fire pit. It can get very windy! Food and garbage needs to be store inside to keep the wildlife away (bears are quickly drawn to outdoor trash). Sheets, towels, and pillowcases must be provided by the guest. Well-behaved dogs are ok but a flat pet fee applies, No cats, please.

Please note: Hunting is NOT permitted on the property.

Winter Guests: You will most likely need 4WD. Our driveway is plowed, but steep.

##We do not provide firewood. Wood can be purchased locally##

Great House

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in the house for an elk ski weekend. House was easily roomy enough for four guys and the kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfast and dinner. Loved the location of the house off the beaten path. We would love to rent it again next year.

Idyllic and cozy!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect little rustic cabin in the mountains! Cozy but with ample room for a family. Our visit was in the winter with minus 2 degree day time temperature but we were comfortable indoors. If traveling in winter, be sure to come prepared with food, drink and firewood because lots of local shops are closed or with limited selection. May want to have a 4x4 vehicle as well since some roads are gravel mountain roads often snow covered. Owners are very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!!

Super secluded, quiet cabin

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely place! We had a great time hiking in the area and spending our evenings at home by the huge fire pit. This place had more than enough room for out family of five plus our pups. Lots of games. There was a badminton net set up but we didn't use it. And horseshoes. Two bikes were there as well that we didn't have the opportunity to use since we were only there for a weekend. And a huge telescope that we'll plan on using if we have the opportunity to come again.

Pay attention to the recommended restaurants. We went to the lakeside because the food was said to be good and we were all thrilled with how good our food was. Unfortunately the ice cream shop was closed for the season but the lakeside's ice cream was awesome.

Only two minor downsides. The air conditioners had been removed and it got very hot one day. There is also an old car parked right beside the porch that kind of took away from the "out in the middle of nowhere " feel, but other than that everything was just perfect.

Owner was also super helpful helping us the find places we could hike with our puppies. And he answered all questions quickly.

Thanks so much for sharing your home!

Stayed last year as well...

  • 5 of 5

We stayed last year at this cabin as well. Plenty of hot water. Last year it wasn't so damp and cold during the night. This year we used the heat and there is a different thermostat in each room. Heat worked well. Cabin well kept. Will stay again next year! No hassles. All appliances worked. Toilet tissue and paper towels supplied. Many items readily available in the pantry. As well as a fully furnished kitchen. Private area. Kids loved the campfires at night!

Peaceful place you'll want to stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a nice quiet cabin tucked in the woods. Large porch for coffee in the am or dinner at the 8 person table. Gas grill to cook on and then you can sit by the fire pit. Plenty of twin beds for more people than a couple. Area is remote and lovely too. Can purchase farm fresh eggs or vegetables from roadside stands. We really enjoyed ourselves!

Serene mountainside cabin stocked with games, books, a telescope, karaoke machine, large gas grill, charcoal grill, and more. Situated on four acres ready for exploring: use the animal track/tree/bird guides to identify the abundant local wildlife. A large porch wraps around two sides of the cabin. The front porch is covered for those rainy days while the side has space to dine outside. Enjoy the campfire ring behind the cabin and roast s'mores. The beauty is that it is NOT near "civilization" - it's ensconced in nature - great for quality family or couple time, and perfect for small retreats. The new Aronic Priesthood Restoration Site is a few miles away.
