Absolutely loved our stay!!

Our family really enjoyed fishing right off the dock and the easy access to the amusement park. The house was very roomy and clean. We had a GREAT time and can't wait to come back next year!!

Wonderful place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

Such a nice place to stay away from home. Owners were so nice. Fishing was great, had ahold of something big right off the dock but got away. I would definitely stay there again. Thanks so much for an enjoyable stay!

Great location.. Clean House!

  • 5 of 5

The location is right next door to the South entrance of Indiana Beach. The house is a nice size and stayed cool in the July heat. Like most houses in the area it is a little older, but the house was spotless, which is what I look for when renting a vacation home. I haven't been to Indiana Beach in 25 years and heard negative things about it the last couple years, but the park was in great shape. Jim and Ruth we a pleasure to deal with. I plan on staying here next year.

Disappointing and Stinky

  • 1 of 5

When we first opened the door the overpowering smell of mildew and basement took our breath away. From then on it was just not a great stay. We bought two bottles of febreze and it still did nothing to reduce the stink. There was also a strong smell of bug fumigation in the back bedroom on the bottom floor. We had to keep the windows open for the majority of our stay with fans in them. This was by far the worst vacation spot we have ever stayed at. The smell was very strong the entire week we were there. The central air didn't seem to work properly and it certainly did not cool the place. As I stated, we opened as many windows as we could with fans going and it was miserable. The smell was just so bad in this home. There were cobwebs by the heads of the beds along base boards and there was even a black ant trapped in one right across from the bed. Two of our daughters had repeatedly smacked ants off of them while sitting or laying in their beds. We did quite a bit of cleaning when we were there as when we opted to use the dishes and silverware they all had a very greasy film on them. Gross (not sure I want to know). Assuming it may have been bug fumigation settled on them. The upstairs rooms had window units that did keep those rooms cool. The microwave and the tv are very small for this large of a rental. Thank God we didn't need to use the microwave too much as we cooked most everything. We did want to watch tv together one of the nights and it proved to be unsuccesful as some that sat close could hear it fine and others that sat further away couldn't hear or see it too well. The large couch held alot of the mildew smell in it as well. The water here we expected to be well water but the rust was so prominent. Not only could you see it, the smell of the rust was quite strong also. The shower walls were a deep orange by the end of the week. There was a hair brush under one of the dressers (bet it's still there!). I wanted to go next door and ask for a refund. Why didn't I? The owners had a funeral to go to the day we checked in and I felt like that was enough weighing on them. I felt like maybe I could spray enough febreze and clean and do all the dishes and make it work. We did make it work. Never again will we rent a place without first checking it out thoroughly ahead of time!! It was spacious but it really smelled bad and it could

It was spacious but it really smelled bad and it could have been better kept as we booked it 1 month prior to our stay. Very disappointed.

Owner's Response: As homeowners we want to assure our guests we have taken cleaning action to improve our vintage cottage rental since this visit. Please note this is a rustic building with older furnishings and well water. We want all who visit to know to ensure good stays. Homeowners Jim and Ruth Davis
