About The Owner

I am most definetely tall. As a former pro basketball player I had the opportunity to travel a lot and was able to interact with many people of different cultures. It has always intrigued me to learn about places and people and that is what I wish for my visitors. To get a good idea and feeling of the land, people and culture of this country.

Excellent Location

  • 3 of 5

My wife and I spent 6 nights at this property. Prior to our arrival I corresponded with Paul several times. He was always very prompt with his replies. I never met Paul in person, but did meet his niece Livi who greeted us at the apartment and was the one I dealt with when a couple of issues arose. First, we arrived very late from Piraeus and our cab driver had trouble locating the apartment. Livi sent her father to rescue us from where the driver dropped us. When the coffee maker did not work and a fan stopped working, Livi was the one to find a solution. She is very gracious.

The apartment is well located on a side street in the Plaka area and for the most part is quiet. As others have mentioned, the apartment is very warm. There is no air movement so that when you come back after being out all day, the apartment is warm and stuffy. If you leave the front door open along with the windows you can start to cool it down, but it never gets cool. At night, for security, we would close the metal shutters, but this reduces airflow. You must have both ceiling fans and portable fans going in order to sleep. My wife and I both slept with ear plugs to cut out the fan noise. The apartment really needs to be air conditioned.

The apartment is very small; a bedroom, small kitchen, small bathroom and a small living area. The ceilings are high and it is quite modern. My wife and I could not sleep together in the bed as every time one of us rolled over, the other would be awoken due to the very loud creaking from the bed slats. As a result I slept on the futon and my wife slept on the bed. The bed does not make this noise when only one person is in it.

One final concern is the very strong musty smell that comes from the bathroom. It is the first thing you notice when you open the door. The smell never went away, it just varied in intensity.

In summary this is a small, modern apartment in an excellent location, but consideration need to be given to installing air conditioning.

The best location and price!!!

  • 3 of 5

Location is one block from a main pedestrian street in Plaka. Livi met us at Syntagma Square to lead us to the apartment, which was much appreciated. She was wonderful, efficient and accommodating. The apartment is below ground, with windows at street level (they have screens). No air conditioning. There are ceiling fans and floor fans. We closed the windows at night for safety reasons so it got a bit stuffy. Suggestion: dehumidifier as there was a musty smell when the windows were closed.

We spent two nights before a short island cruise. All went well with this portion. Reserved for one additional night after the cruise and before we flew home. This night was problematic and I had prepaid it. Paul changed the time we could access the apartment by sending an email less than 24 hours before we were due to arrive. I did not get the email on the cruise ship, because my emails would not load with the slow internet. We arrived at the previously agreed time to find occupants there. They let us keep our suitcases in the apartment (!) and we had to wait 2.5 hours for it to be ready for us. Athens had a temperature of over 100 degrees that day and we were exhausted. Also we only had sheets covering the mattresses. No top sheets. We had to use towels. Uncomfortable in the heat.

Loved the location and Livi was great.

Good Value

  • 3 of 5

This small apartment has a lot going for it: It is walking distance to the Parthenon, Hadrian's library, the Roman Agora, etc.; it seems to have been renovated recently; it has a washing machine; the people taking care of it are very nice; the owner arranged to have us picked up at the airport by a taxi and driven straight to the apartment (and the fare was reasonable); it is relatively quiet for an apartment in the city (you do hear the odd motorcycle or voices in the night however); the rent is very reasonable, and the neighborhood is safe. On the down side, it is a basement apartment, so there is little natural light, it tends to be humid (although I guess that in the summer when it is very hot, the apartment may feel nice and cool), and the bathroom has an odd smell. The seats around the table are rather low, so if you are small like me, it is a bit awkward, and it does not have a microwave (but then, none of the other apartments we rented in Greece had one).

I would recommend this apartment if you want to stay in Plaka (beware, it is a very touristy district) for a few days, especially in the summer, and you plan to be on the go most of the time or if you don't have much money and you are willing to compromise on the amount of natural light in your accommodation.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

What makes an experience good or bad is the start of it. This one couldn't have been better. Starting with Elias, the driver and then Livi waiting for us at the apartment. What a delight! Happy, optimistic people. Very helpful and wonderful tips from both.

The apartment is tiny but for 2 people it's enough. There was a little bit of a hassle with the shower curtain being too short, but hey, no biggie.

Thank you Paul, although we never met, your crew is wonderful.

See you in 2016.

In the Garden of the Gods

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful. Location, Location, Location - from the apartment in Plaka, we were able to walk 'everywhere'. The apartment is on a very quiet street, Very Secure and literally only a few steps to any of the action you could ask for. Paul was outstanding with helping with information and making arrangements before we arrived and Livi met us when we arrived. More importantly, Paul made arrangements for a Taxi driver to meet us upon our arrival and drove us to the door - More importantly this same Taxi driver met me at 4:00am and took me to the airport - I felt so relieved to know that I had someone taking care of me sooo far way from home. The apartment has everything you need from the refrigerator, cook plate, toaster oven and the coffee maker. Most importantly was the washer - this allowed us to travel light and with an iron we could tidy anything up we needed to. The apartment is very comfortable but note that there's not Air Conditioning so sleeping can be difficult if you aren't accustomed.
