I am a local lawyer that practices in Virginia and Tennessee. We have three wonderful daughters. We bought our lakehouse to retire back in 2001 . Wonderful vacation home, even to use to get out of town for a weekend. I . There are many things to do,mostly we relax and enjoy a beautiful view that captures us all.
Bernard Via purchased this house in 2001
Our dream home is located on a hillside with much in the way of natural beauty. The Lake is a wonderful forested mountain backdrop with a view from the hillside second to none. We have installed windows troughout to open you to clean fresh air in season(of course ac when needed). Decks exist for outside dining and barbecue on gas grill. Lots of steps will get your exercise during the week. We are near parks and hiking trails. You can enjoy historic trips to Jonesborough,Abingdon,Greenville,Bristol active downtown and country Music heritage.
Bring your own boat or jet ski to use our dock for some lake funand swimming. There are plenty of places around you can rent boats . Enjoy a beautiful clean lake to swim and fish. We are located near a national forest and the Appalachian trail biking on the Va. Creeper trail between Abingdon and Damascus is wonderful. I hope the weather is pleasant, as it usually is, but if not you will have many other activites to enjoy.
the house was everything you could want; plenty of dishes, spices, extra's
such as salad dressing, condiments, coffee, etc. beautiful view and very relaxing. lake was wonderful and house accessible from town.plenty of extra room to spread out. the deck is a delightful place to spend a few hours morning and night. you "will" get plenty of excercise going up and down the steps though...so don't bring to many heavy suitcases... pack light and use the washer/dryer. had a great time and would do it again.
We booked this at the last minute for a quick get away before we dropped our daughter off at Virginia Tech. It was a great house to spread out in, 3 teenagers and they all had their own room. the fooseball was a hit! The private cove was a relaxing spot to read and enjoy a glass of wine. The only things you need is a bathing suit and some food. the house was equip with whatever we needed to cook a couple of meals.
we walked around Bristol, antique shopped, Hiked at the Channels, kayaked down the Holston River, biked the Creeper trail, and rented a Pontoon and explored the lake. It was so convenient to doc the boat at the house for a quick lunch! We went to the Farmer's market in Abingdon and got some veggies and awesome bread! Lots to see and do!! This was a good basecamp location
Great way to cap off the summer and regroup for another school year! Bernard was great to work !!!
Had a great vacation week with our family of 6 at this house. The floor plan was perfect for us and our grown children. Plenty of spaces indoors and out for whole group and small group gatherings...reading, napping, cooking, playing games. There is a gorgeous view from every room in the house. We enjoyed being next door to the marina, swimming off the dock, kayaking and boating with friends. House was well stocked and owners are gracious about sharing their home and its contents...kitchen supplies, life jackets, floats, etc. It was a wonderful week and we hope to stay there again!
This was my families first time to the Bristol, TN area (two teenagers) and the trip exceeded our expectations. The house itself has plenty of character and multiple levels. Our girls enjoyed the spiral staircase to the loft and had their own space. You are able to see the lake from most rooms and the deck is very spacious and enjoyable. The house is adequately stocked with all pots, pans, spices for cooking and there is a nearby New York Style Pizza place that delivers and has great food.
The house was perfect and my family explored the lake with the provided Sea Eagle Canoe and kayaks (we enjoyed watching the kingfisher birds). The steps to the lake provided our daily exercise and fishing off the dock produced plenty of catfish and lots of memories. The house essentially has its own private cove and we used the provided rafts to float/swim each day. South Holsten Lake is pristine and there are plenty of pontoon rentals nearby (we rented from Painter's Creek) at an affordable price.
During our stay, we toured nearby Bristol Caverns, Bristol Motor Speedway and visited the South Holsten Dam (within 15 minutes). The RT 421 drive (once across the bridge) is by far the craziest road we have ever driven and is worth driving. All are recommended. We also traveled south about 1 ½ hours to Grandfather Mountain and walked their suspended bridge (100 foot drop at an elevation of 1 mile) and then visited the quaint town of Blowing Rock, NC.
The owners were very flexible and available for questions during our stay. We truly enjoyed our vacation and we felt the house was a great value.
