the house was everything you could want; plenty of dishes, spices, extra's

such as salad dressing, condiments, coffee, etc. beautiful view and very relaxing. lake was wonderful and house accessible from town.plenty of extra room to spread out. the deck is a delightful place to spend a few hours morning and night. you "will" get plenty of excercise going up and down the steps don't bring to many heavy suitcases... pack light and use the washer/dryer. had a great time and would do it again.

Lauren W.

August 2018 - Our vacation week on South Holston Lake was all we hoped it would be staying at this versatile home. I grew up in Bristol and frequented the lake for many years. So we knew of this home which is situated next to Laurel Marina. This was our first time staying there. The owners carefully maintain their home and were very responsive to any correspondence I sent before and during our stay. There are many bedrooms, decks, and porches for unlimited space no matter what your age. At night we enjoyed the spacious common area on the main floor adjacent to the open kitchen area so we all stayed together. We never turned on the TV's. We enjoyed board games for a change which were provided. We chose this home knowing it had a private dock, was next to the marina, and not far by boat to the South Holston Dam area on the TN side where we also spent each day on the most scenic, uninhabited areas of the lake (in our opinion) even on the weekend days. The lake provided us, as in past years, many spectacular areas to ski often with no wave activity. Though no one fished, this is a prime destination spot for this activity. There are many cove areas nestled adjacent to the Cherokee National Forest if you have access by boat. We trailered our whaler and once launched enjoyed the lake the entire day. Staying at this home at the lake vs in town allowed us much flexibility to come and go during the entire stay and no lost hours commuting out to the lake. I would highly recommend taking time to visit the city. We just happen to be a boating family. Upon arrival, the home was very clean and ready to go which made our clean up on Sunday morning when we left much easier. We definitely plan to return.

Poorly maintained home. Do not rent the boat through the "3rd person"!!!

  • 1 of 5

We were very disappointed by this house. It is not actually a four bedroom. One of the bedrooms is just a loft that leads to a closed off separate bedroom on the 3rd floor. The fully stocked kitchen was missing some key items. It did have an obscene amount of coffee cups (taking up the majority of the cupboards) but it was missing measuring cups and baking sheets/pans among other things. I am used to having mixed/matched things in rental kitchens but they have always had at least 1 measuring cup and 1 baking sheet/pan. We ended up having to buy those and just left them there. Misleading pictures were taken from such an angle that it does not show that there is a street in between the house and the stairs down to the dock. The stairs to the dock are unsafe and poorly maintained. Listing mentioned a communal pool; I can only guess that was referencing the lake.

The house is very haphazardly "maintained". The oven was held together by duct tape. The washing machine took hours to complete 1 load because the water was just trickling in. The handle for clothes dryer was a metal hanger. The house was overall dirty/dusty upon our arrival. The jetted bathtub was scary/dirty. I could keep going, but that wouldn't leave any room for what is by far the most infuriating part of our stay.

We rented the boat from the “third party” mentioned on the listing. This “boat” was in horrible condition, but we figured it would give us the benefit of having the boat outside Marina hours. We unfortunately assumed that the boat worked. The battery was dead upon our arrival and there was no rope for the anchor among many other things. After wasting the majority of our first day waiting for Ricky to deliver a battery jump pack, we discovered that the battery couldn't hold a charge anyways after wasting hours at a Marina waiting for the battery to charge. Our second day of the rental ended after we died in the middle of the lake and had to be towed back. We asked for a refund because our only two days with this boat were headache-filled to say the least. We were only given a partial refund because that “was only fair”. What would have been fair was to have an operational boat!

I recommend renting from the Marinas. It is more than worth the money. We rented from various marinas the rest of our trip and we should have done that that from the beginning. First, the boats actually worked. Not to mention, they boats were much newer and didn’t guzzle gasoline.

Owner's Response: This person was upset because I did not let him take my personal boat when he was having problems with rick's boat not performing to standards. I can only say we try our best to reflect the house in picture and descriptionVRBO has a check off for community pool that is what is a dock and cove with fresh clean lake water . Hot tub is cleaned each time after being rented with bleach run through the hot tub. cookie sheets will be added . The measuring cups disappeared over time and willl be replaced.Steps are check each week .If a person goes down them they need to follow directions and use handrails as they go down the side of a mountain. Dust can occur in houses according to different peoples' standard . We clean it as we see it and so has every visitor who leaves the house. On this visitor we had to clean up dog poop left by their 3 dogs but we charged them no clean up.for it. Finally, upstairs loft has bedding for 3 connected to bathroom and most people consider it a separate bedroom although there is no door to cut off noise. Some people are complainers and need to stick with timeshare w/ high maintenance fees in townhouses. We have not had complainers like this from our former guest.

Didn't know I was cleaning the house

  • 3 of 5

I got charged for not vacuuming even though the paperwork at the house on check out procedure calls for sweeping (which we did) for the amount of money we spent I think it's crazy.

Owner's Response: It was a little more than just sweeping . there was a lot of food spilled under the ottoman and the dishes had to be rewashed as they were loaded without rinsing off old dried food. The next guest would not want food stuck on dishes.. There is a $69 cleaning fee which we waived all but $15 since the house was basically cleaned.

Wonderful time with family!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time during our stay. Lovely home with lots of room. It does have ALOT of stairs that I couldn't really tel about from the pictures but that could be an issue for older renters and the dock is accessible across the road and down a lot of stairs. As long as stairs are not a problem this house is perfect for large groups!!!
