About Alla Wilkins

While living in Europe, I made all of my food from scratch and spent much time in my kitchen preparing food. I would dream that I would have food already half prepared and only need to put in the microwave, press a button, and eat a wonderfully prepared meal in a matter of minutes. In March I was boarding a plane to go to this beautiful country. The all you can eat buffets were absolutely bewildering to me, as I could not figure out how an establishment could possibly profit by allowing people to eat until they dropped. I have attempted the experiment myself on multiple occasions, which had immediately resulted in exponential growth of my thighs. The need to buy new clothing was soon looming on the horizon, as I was unable to fit into any of the garments that I had brought with me from home. In order to battle the rapid expansion program that my body had seemed to embark upon all by itself, I had signed up for a gym membership. Alas, my jogging and cycling rituals did not seem to bring about any sort of buttock reduction despite the fact that I started to monitor my portion sizes.

Surprised at just that, I began to read the labels on the food with which I had stocked my pantry. Sugar and syrup were the only things that made sense to me – which is when I started to realize what my grandmother meant by saying that cooking is a science. Apparently, the wise men in lab coats have turned the art of transforming nutrients into lard long before they actually reach the stomach. Skillfully greasing the wheels of food processing, they have made food convenient, yet full of additives that void it of nutritional value. That was precisely the reason why I found myself putting on an apron and getting out the spatulas once again. In Europe, most people speak several languages because of so many diversified cultures. As a result, I speak five languages today.

Won't Recommend!

I stayed in this property for two nights (March 11-13) and overall, I am not satisfied with my stay.

In the VRBO page there was a BBQ/outdoor grill included, but when I wanted to use it, it wasn’t ready (rusted) even though I texted the owner one hour ahead to get it ready. It was so frustrating! You need to make sure that there would be an extra charge on the Hot Tub which I think it wasn’t clear in the VRBO page when I wanted to book it (I lately noticed that this has been fixed and this is added: “The Hot tub is an additional charge”) and we figured that out when we already got there. We texted her before booking the house if we would have privacy and would be able to use all house privately and she confirmed YES. However, you need to know that the only private place that you have is ONLY your bedroom and the living room and kitchen is shared. You won’t be able to adjust the AC/heater in your bedroom since it’s all shared. Also the Brown room that we booked has a too small shower too. The included breakfast wasn’t worth it to have it either. In the first day when we were going to go to have breakfast, the other guest told us that they were frustrated with that since they found some expired yogurt and not much to wanna call it breakfast. In the second day we went and only had coffee and the rest of the breakfast was what we bought ourselves. The only good thing that impressed me was Alla and her husband who were very welcoming and nice people to talk to! If you would like to have a private place and enjoy your vacation, I won’t recommend you this place.

Owner's Response: Dear Asad, If you will remember, you originally made a reservation at the Bed and Breakfast ! Do you understand what a Bed & Breakfast is? Its a room in the home with other rooms for other people to enjoy their HOMY,QUIET, COZY stay! Immediately after you made this reservation several weeks ago, we sent a letter of conformation to you stating that this price was ONLY for the single room (which was under hundred dollars!) and that any additional services, such as hot tub, custom prepared organic breakfast, candlelight dinners, etc. were an additional charge. Had you read this email, you would have known this. It is also on our website and you could have CANCELED your reservation immediately if you were.not happy about the arrangements! Also, we clearly stated and told you that our latest check in time was 9:00PM because we didn't want to disturb our guest who were already in their rooms for the evening. We also said that any check in time after 9:00PM would be met with an additional late fee which you refused to pay! This is also on our website and it was in your letter of confirmation!. You didn't show up until 11:00PM! Far too late to be received, but we made an exception just for you. Regarding the B-B-Q, in winter, this is rarely used and never requested. You had asked about using the grille around 7:00PM not giving us any time to prepare it for use as we were having dinner with family at that moment. The breakfast is not mentioned per say on VRBO at all, but the continental one is always without charge. Other couples ordered the prepared breakfast like the ones who were staying with us while you were there and they didn't desire the continental breakfast at all! Regarding the home temperature, we keep the thermostat set at 72/73 degrees for our guest although we later realized you wanted between 80/85 degrees which is too hot for most people. Still, you could have turned it up higher if you had wanted to. Finally, we were nominated 8 times in a row as a Best Bed and Breakfast of the Year, had five celebrities, and served guest from 51 foreign countries. We must be doing something right. Best regards, Alla Wilkins.

Lovely off-season visit

We had a splendid stay at Allas over the new year holiday, alla and Rick do a great job hosting and making you feel like friends immediately upon your arrival. We stayed in the brown room at the quiet guest house comfortable king bed and not a huge room (however the bed takes up majority) but enough space for a couple like us. The guest house is just around the corner from the main bnb in the morning we walked to breakfast besides the last day, Alla makes fantastic breakfast we recommend the organic one atleast that's the one we had twice then continental the other (continental is free but not as tasty) and she will accommodate special requests alla is very well versed in cooking food that is made with real ingredients and delicious tasting, she makes her own jams and has chickens in the back for eggs. All the rooms at both places we saw are decorated with antiques and it has quite a nice little charm. While the insides of the houses are well kept and in generally great condition the outside landscaping was nothing to write home about and I would offer that as something that could be improved on, note I am a landscape professional ;) In closing we totally enjoyed our time at Allas and would go back in a heartbeat if we visit Dallas area again. Also if you like hIking there is a nature preserve and a state park 10 min away. We highly recommend Allas!

Owner's Response: Dear Brandon, I wanted to say that it was a pleasure for us to have you as our guest and glad you enjoyed your stay. and .....Cotton Bowl.....Unfortunately, we can't do much to for the Michigan football team other than cheer them on, but at least at our place by the next morning, I made cute Belgium waffles in the TEXAS shape to put a smile on your face to start a new day right, with LOVE from Texas! I have to admit that the month of January makes everything outside look really drab :( but it gives spring time something to look forward to when all of the pretty flowers come back out. You all will have to be sure and come back in the spring or summer and I can assure you that our landscape will be very beautiful! I'll keep the waffle iron hot and ready, I promise! Again, thanks for your stay and look forward to seeing you again.
