About the property

100-yr-old 2br 1.5 Bath Home, Freshly Furnished & Equipped, Close, Quiet Street

This second home is furnished for living. Spacious open downstairs living area, large master bedroom with queen bed, smaller 2nd bedroom with full bed, small deck. Good beds, linens, towels, jacuzzi upstairs, newly equipped kitchen, half bath downstairs, very congenial dining room/work space, comfortable for both longer-term visits and touring Philly. Located on a lovely quiet block near Naval Square and South Street, it offers easy access to the new Schuylkill Boardwalk and River Trail. Very walkable area, with easy access to public transport, Center City, many local hip restaurants and bars. Street parking is easy to find. 15 min by taxi from airport, or if you are a walker, the train to University City is easy. Cross the South Street Bridge and it's a 15-minute walk. One mile from both University of Pennsylvania and Rittenhouse Square.

This is our second home, so it is equipped for comfort. It's VERY new and we are new to hosting, so we will be eager to hear if there are items we should change or add. We appreciate guest's patience as we master the process. We know the best reviews come from the happiest guests, and we'll do what we can to assure a great experience. We LOVE Philadelphia and are delighted to share our enthusiasm.

About Sara Wood-Kraft

We live in California and have a daughter who moved to Philly a few years ago. Since she is staying in Philly, we bought this place down the block from her (that's how we know this is a great neighborhood!). Our goal is to spend as much time as possible in this home and also to share it with others who want/need to spend time in Philadelphia working, visiting family, or just visiting this beautiful city.

Sara Wood-Kraft purchased this house in 2014

Why Sara Wood-Kraft chose Southwest Center City

We love the location and had come to know the neighborhood while visiting our daughter over the last few years. There's a LOT of action in this hip neighborhood, and we were delighted to find a quiet street, not too fancy, where we could rest between adventures. It's VERY hilly where we live - we also love the opportunity to walk and walk in nice flat Philadelphia. There's history everywhere, and wonderful neighborhoods. This place is close to the action but quiet and homey, with friendly and welcome neighbors.

What makes this house unique

This is just a very nice little place. There are a lot of 30-ish couples in the neighborhood. One of them told us that this is the 'perfect' place for their parents to stay, since the couple has little room for guests. 'Close, but not too close' was their phrase. Also, easy access to the new Schuylkill River Boardwalk and Trail is a real bonus for us.

This is a typical Philadelphia rowhouse, attached to others, in a quiet neighborhood not driven by tourism. There are excellent bars, restaurants, and little shops nearby, and tourist areas are within easy walking distance. It is a second home for us and we picked it for these reasons. Also, it is near Penn and other universities and medical facilities, and set up for longer term stays while working or visiting.

Great city...lovely home

  • 4 of 5

Very nice property....modern, clean, stylish and comfy...walkable to sights, shopping and eating. We used uber in the mornings and sometimes walked back later in the day. Buses were close by but uber was so convenient. Loved our stay and would definitely return.

Great house

  • 5 of 5

This house has everything you could want in a home away from home. It was a lovely base for our holiday in Philadelphia. The walk in to the town centre allowed us to appreciate the interesting architecture of Philly. When we were too tired for the walk the bus was so easy.

Awesome place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there for 5 weeks. The house is very comfortable, has everything one would need for an extended stay and is a convenient location. We were able to find buses or connection fairly easily. You have to be open to living in a rowhome though. The 3 levrls, sharing a wall, steep stairs - these are all features that one should be accepting of before getting there. Yet, Sara's home has lots of privacy and the ample windows give the feel of an independent home. I had never lived in a city area before so that experience was different for me. Philadelphia city area is an eclectic mix - all kinds of people ! .Great eating options. We literally ordered or picked up every single day and didn't get bored. I can definitely say that Sara's place made our stay comfortable and easier. Highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the nice review. It IS urban - a real neighborhood, not a tourist area - but we like that it's real Philly. And when you are doing things related to the colleges, it's very handy. Appreciate your feedback, and glad you were able to enjoy some of the great restaurants in the area. Come back any time!

Good location with some drawbacks.

  • 3 of 5

Lots of positives. Good location and free parking. The kitchen is well equipped and the apartment clean.

The 2 bath is a little misleading since the only shower is upstairs between the two bedrooms.

A little dated looking but the rental price was good.

Main issue is a safety concern for anyone 60 and over or with physical limitations. The stairs are very narrow and steep and the bannister does not cover the last seven steps so it's necessary to hold on to the walls when coming down. We left our big suitcases downstairs so we didn't have to carry them up.

Owner's Response: Gosh - This is a hundred-year-old row house, the stairs are steep and narrow. We will try to figure out a railing, but it will make the stairs narrower. Funny that it seems 'dated' - I guess we are dated as well. It's our second home and we are comfortable there. Also, it's recently renovated, so maybe our tastes are more traditional. To prospective guests - please let me know if you have questions. I'm happy to tell you honestly if I think you'd be more comfortable in a less physically challenging place. We've not had any other complaints, but I always warn about the stairs. We are well-into our 60's and are aware that some fitness is required. And it IS a 1.5 bath place - shower upstairs, spacious 2nd half-bath downstairs. Thanks for the feedback! Sara
