gorgeous house, gorgeous beach!
This is the perfect house in the best location of Las Terrenas in the best area of the Samana Peninsula. My husband and I were met by the managers, who helped us feel comfortable and gave us loads of information (and were available to answer any question at all). The villa is huge and gorgeous, the pictures don’t do it justice. Big kitchen with everything you could want at your fingertips: blender, gas stove, microwave and full size fridge (drinking water dispenser with new full size bottles available for USD$1.25!). Full bathrooms on the first and second floors, big dining and living rooms, 3 bedrooms, washing machine and abundant storage space. Did I mention there’s wifi? We spent almost all of our time at home on the enormous deck/porch at the full size table, looking out over our gorgeously landscaped backyard (with lawn chairs), listening to the birds chirp in the morning and evening – divine! I was surprised how cool the house stayed even on the hottest days – we never turned the A/C on. The complex is all beautiful and very secure, but the star of Las Terrenas is the beach or, as I should say, the beaches.
I am beach nut and extremely picky, and the beach right at the foot of your road (300 metres) is amazing, a massive sweeping beauty! We would often swim right here, 2 minutes from your house, it’s turquoise with gradual depth – perfect for kids AND serious swimmers. You can rent chairs, though we usually just sat on our towels. Most days, we walked to the right a bit, to the point (Punta Popy) to swim, sun and play all day. If you take five more steps to look past the point…there is another massive palm tree backed beach, but this one untouched! It doesn’t get any better than this, honestly! We ventured to other beaches and this one is tops (I do recommend a day trip to Rincon, though).
We also went humpback whale watching and were blown away – make sure you go with Whale Samana to get the scientist guides (usually the owner Kim herself) and a proper boat. We heard of others getting either sunburnt or rained on; trust me, you want Kim. Las Terrenas is a happening place, with a big modern supermarket, banks, endless bars and restaurants, and plenty of stores for the shopper.
Please note that you are getting a fantastic deal with this villa – it really is luxurious. It is big, too, so why not invite along a couple of friends and get it for a steal? Lucky you for finding this place, do yourself a favour and book now!
The best of times and the worst of times
We booked for two weeks over Christmas. Actually one of the few places we've been where the reality was even better than the pictures. The house is just as advertised. Small, but ideal for two to four guests. The only drawback - it's sparsely furnished and equipped. There's no cable TV, no chaise lounges, no BBQ, no bedside tables or lamps and only the most basic of cooking utensils.
Our first week was truly the best of times. Las Terrenas is a fun place to visit. Restaurants are plentiful, varied, cover all price points and provide excellent meals. Grocery stores are convenient and surprisingly well stocked. Likewise, the beaches are exceptional and provide something for everyone from untouched seclusion to beachside bars and restaurants. All within easy walking distance of the villa.
Our second week, however, has been the week from Hell. It began with the onslaught of the Spanish Armada. The villas at Plasiflora are semi-detached houses. Two villas share a common wall and roof. There are 26 identical villas. This unit shares space with "Villa Maracuja" which is also a rental.
The Spanish fleet arrived late on Christmas Eve - all 12 of them including 4 children and a robust sense of entitlement. We're here and that's all that matters.
Since then it's been a constant door crashing, furniture moving, adults yelling, children screaming and crying plethora of sound. If you put your ear close to the screen I'm sure you'll be able to hear them now.
The moral of the story - if you're looking for a quiet place to stay, this may or may not be the place depending on who is next door. As for us. we wouldn't recommend this place because of that uncertainty.
If memory serves, the first Spanish Armada was eventually blown away. Maybe history will repeat itself.
I'm really sorry for this inconvenience during the second week of your stay.
I can understand your disappointmentbut I cannot let you say it's not a quiet place.
First, you should have warned me about the noise coming from the neighbors during your stay.
I am very concerned about the well-being of my guests: If I would have known about this situation, I would have asked the owner of the other house to have them stop the noise.
Second, we've been renting the house for more than one year now and never had so far any complaint about noise or disturbance.
The house was at an ideal location- just minutes from the beach (literally 2 minutes away on foot), a variety of restaurants, and various places to shop for souvenirs or groceries. The beaches around the house were absolutely beautiful- white sand beaches with clear waters. The house itself was well kept, modern, and comfortable, just as described. When we got there it was clean & it had everything you would ever need for a weeks stay- towels, extra sheets, pots/pan, dishes, and even a clothes washer. Overall I enjoyed the stay and I would highly recommend staying here.
We visted the waterfall and the national park through tour services. There's a tour place, Flora Tours, just up the street- they were great and the price was fair.
WONDERFUL STAY, SUPER NICE HOST!
We spent wonderful 9 days in Gregory's house. It is as shown on the photoes, wonderful view from the main terrace to the garden, very quiet location but very close to the beach and the center of Las terrenas. you don't need a car to move around, it is a very good exercise to walk. Gregory was extremely supportive, very attentive, met us even after our delayed arrival, during our stay we ran out of gas and he responded immediately and ensured our stay had no technical interruptions. Very nice and forthcoming person, the two families (with 11 and 15 year old children) were very pleased and happy. I would absolutely recommend this house to others and especially for the price you pay - you get a very nice option!! one thing to keep in mind, due to the water pressure, taking a shower simultaneously in the first floor bathroom and the second floor bathroom - is not a good idea as the hot water (depending on the gas) does not go up in that case and unless you mind a cold shower - better take turns.
With it's 20km of sandy beaches, Las Terrenas, in the north of the Samana peninsula, presents the charm of a Dominican village in a preserved setting, away from mass tourism and all-inclusive hotels. The beautiful scenery makes it a paradise: huge white sandy beaches with coconut palms, turquoise blue sea, green hills covered with palm trees, banana trees and tropical plants. Walking distance in minutes, the village also offers a vibrant life through its shops, seaside restaurants, bars and many leisure activities. During your stay, a wide range of activities awaits you: horse riding and quad biking on the road coffee, watching humpback whales (20km), discovery of the Los Haitises National Park (20km) excursion to the waterfall of El Limon (10km), sports (diving, kite surfing, windsurfing, ...) ... and of course lounging by the sea.
