About Darren Porfon
We have owned this property since buying it from an aunt who was in the home most of her adult life. Darren has visited this town his entire life, and Line for almost 30years. We never tire of the vista or the activities.
Darren Porfon purchased this House in 2006
Why Darren Porfon chose Yellowhead County
By knowing the house and the area so well, when the house became available there was no question about buying the house as our vacation property. Only recently have we decided to share access to the house to others so they can appreciate it benefits.
What makes this House unique

Very cozy! Great for a group
We loved our stay at Darren's place. It's got plenty of room and amenities for a group and the neighborhood is nice and quiet. The back yard is enormous and comes equipped with a BBQ.
Darren was very accommodating and even let us check in a day early.
The home is a little far from Jasper park, about 45 minutes drive, but we didn't mind! Just make sure to watch out for deer on the way in.
Would definitely stay again!
This property was awesome for my family but the only problem was the poor WiFi also one bathroom
Yes one bathroom is not enough for a family of 8p otherwise it's a good place to stay in
Thank you for your review. I am pleased that the house was awesome.
The property is excellent for families, and when we have a request from a large party to reserve, we always confirm if they are ok with one bathroom before we allow the booking.
I'm sorry to hear that the wifi was poor during your stay. I am always available to troubleshoot to see if it is the connection. As stated in the property description, the wifi is not high speed and is provided through a satellite connection. Given the house's location beside the mountain in a valley, the connection is not guaranteed. Despite this, we have provided wifi as a courtesy to our guests with the understanding that is occasionally slow or unavailable.
With 7 adults and an infant the space was great. There was a bit of negotiting with one bathroom.
The size of the backyard is great for outdoor games.
The kitchen has an island, so many people can work together on meal prep.
The dining room space we found was big enough for eating and playing games.
The livingroom space was large enough for all of us to lounge in.
We loved the view of the mountains & park.
The seaons pass for Jasper park was a nice perk as well.
Upon arrival we noticed a well maintained yard, beautiful hanging flower baskets, clean interior that had new windows and superior window treatments.
We'd have to say that it met all of our needs. It also had a list of our wants: amenities see the list in listing. With added towels, toilet paper, paper towels, kleenex, dish soap, detergent.
Arrive with your family, your luggage, a few groceries, games and you are set. Put your feet up relax and enjoy.
We will definitely share this find with friends. And if we are near Jasper again ---we will rent this gem again.
Nice quite neighborhood in small community. Nice view of mountains and park with children's playarea
Quite small town. Remote area. Clean wel maintain 4 bedroom hose. Great host. Additional atleast half washroom would have been fulfilled the need of large group of 8 people. Overall enjoyed our two days stay in Brule. Thanks Darren for hosting us.
This place has everything you would need. It’s a little out of the way from Jasper but close to Hinton for supplies and restaurants. Don’t miss your chance to go to Folding Mountain Brewery. It’s on your way to Jasper. Would definitely return.
Clean, well equipped, comfortable, an excellent family house.
The house was perfect for our family long weekend. 2 bedrooms on main, 2 in basement, each with double (or queen?) bed. We really appreciated the very well equipped kitchen. The house was very clean and well equipped with linens and towels. We appreciated the thoughtful touches such as local maps and tourist information. This place would be great with small children - there is a good playground across the street and a very large grass back yard. It is very quiet. One thing to be aware of is that Brule has no stores and the closest is about 15 to 20 minutes drive away in Hinton, so you just have to plan accordingly.
Brule is a historic hamlet with 52 residences and many amenities. There's a community league area with a hall, ball diamonds, picnic areas, a hockey rink, fire pits and a play ground. It even has it own volunteer fire department! The town is located just a couple of minutes from the Athabasca River, Brule Lake and the famous Brule Sand Dunes. We are surrounded by trees and an abundance of wildlife, such as elk, deer, moose, cougars, bears, foxes, wolves, coyotes, and many other small varieties. There are extensive birds varieties too numerous to list, but who serenade us every morning in the warmer months. A little farther away, around 20 minutes, is the town of Hinton with enough shops and services to ensure that you are never without supplies. 15 minutes away are 5 lakes that offer boating, kayaking and fishing. There are several horse adventure companies also just minutes away, as well as rafting adventures. An amazing adventure also awaits you at Ogre Canyon, a 4 km hike at the base of Jasper National Park. A short drive takes you to Jasper National Park gate. The park has more things to do than can be included in this narrative, but examples include skiing at Marmot Basin, some of the best cross country skiing land in the world, Miette Hot Springs, world renowned Jasper Park Lodge golf course, Athabasca Falls and of course the town of Jasper itself. Surrounded by numerous mountain fed lakes and mountains, the town of Jasper is the jewel of the Canadian Rockies. Considerable effort has gone into ensuring that Jasper Town retains its charm, with restrictions on commercialization and overbuilding. This results in an experience that is consistent with its natural surroundings. The drive to Jasper often sees mountain goats. elk, moose, and bears like the ones on the pictures
