About Charles Greenwald
Hello! My name is Charles Greenwald. I live in New York City and work in the financial services industry. I have a love of the outdoors, and the lake home is one of my favorite places to spend my free-time.
Charles Greenwald purchased this Cabin in 1970
Why Charles Greenwald chose Holmes
I have been spending time at the house my whole life! Going there with my parents as a child, and more recently with friends, my girlfriend or my broader family. It represents the perfect getaway from the everyday city life. It is an easy place to be, allowing for a relaxing, carefree, cozy and most of all fun place to escape! There is plenty to do year round for both kids and adults, whether its a swim in the lake, a bbq right outside or going for a great hike right nearby on the Appalachian trail. Send me an email or call at anytime and I will be happy to answer any questions you have. Thanks!
What makes this Cabin unique
I find the house to be a truly unique place to relax. It isn't far from the city but certainly feels like you are. It is a fantastic place to spend time with your friends & family and unwind for a short, or long vacation.

Beautiful property, so close to the city!
We had a lovely late-fall weekend at this cabin. Located only about 1h30m drive from the city (with traffic), we were surprised at the calm oasis that awaited us when we arrived. Beautifully decorated and well taken care of, this house was a unique find. I recommend staying to anyone considering! One word of warning is that the walk down to the house could be a bit of a challenge if you have any trouble walking/balancing. That being said, it's a wonderful place with close-by groceries/amenities and SPECTACULAR views of the lake, especially around sunset.
Fabulous home with a view
We had a great time at the house - it’s a perfect gateway just under 2 hours from NYC. The house is equipped with all the necessities and we absolutely loved it. Will stay again in the spring!
Relaxing by the lake
Charles was a pleasure to deal with for our stay by the lake. We live on Long Island and it only took us about an hour and a half to get here. The view of the lake was so gorgeous, you couldn't have a better spot. The inside kitchen has all essentials and has a nice screened in porch in case it gets buggy. We sat outside, kayaked, fed the ducks, fed the fish and saw a bald eagle and many blue herons. My dog loved watching the wildlife as well. We had such a great time. Thanks again Charles!
Great lake house
House was great for a 4th of July long weekend with some friends. Great proximity to the water and lovely deck over the boathouse. Porch/Sun room was perfect for dining and relaxing, while the beds were super comfortable.
Beautiful view ; easy stay
Charles is a very responsive and welcoming host - he sent an excellent fact sheet and responded quickly & graciously to any questions. Our weekend was brief - (and rainy, as it happened!) - but we were very comfortable, and the view is really special. Lovely kayaking spot. Beautiful birdsong in the morning - a real escape from city life.
Tips: We would second the advice to arrive during daylight; there are lights on the stair case, but it is quite steep (so don't overpack!).
Great getaway from the city
What a cozy cabin!
Even during the winter it was relaxing and peaceful.
We really enjoyed our stay.
Be careful when arriving at night (especially for the cityfolk). GPS is not so reliable (we ended up in a neighbor's backyard!). And there are a good number of erratic steps to go down to get to the house. Take my advice: arrive during daylight hours!
The house is located right on Whaley lake, with great swimming, boating and lake activities. When wanting to get out for a bit, there are plenty of things to do nearby.
There is a general store, grocery stores, Dunkin donuts, restaurants, movie theaters, parks, bars, skiing (beginner mountain), golf (and mini golf) all in the area (happy to give directions and names etc.)
About 20 minutes away is the town of Danbury, CT which has large stores for shopping, a larger restaurant selection and a couple more activities (i.e. bowling).
Please note: the house is down a set of stairs from the parking area that might be difficult for some elderly guests.
