Great place, but hosts tried to make a profit off of the extras
The house is wonderful, but due to location you need transportation arrangements for everything. The hosts are really nice and willing to help with every last detail, but you soon learn that the arrangements they make for you cost 20-30% more than if you did it yourself. For example they will arrange for a day trip or transportation to a set for a certain amount, then when you start asking around, everyone else paid much less. We were also told by them that a guide was necessary to enter Machu Picchu, and they booked one of their personal friends for $115, then when we arrived we realized a guide is optional, etc. just be prepared, although they are gracious, like everyone else in cusco, the hosts are trying to make a profit. Once we realized this we started making our own travel arrangements with drivers we found in urubamba for much less, which we could tell annoyed the hosts.
Quiet, Secluded and Serene
The house was very nice. It had a nice garden and view of the mountains. It is situated in Urubamba, which is 20 minutes by taxi to Ollanta (train station and archaeological ruins). We did not have that much time in the area, but if you get a chance - walk deep into the town. It is a 10 minute walk to the main street. Our only issue - going in winter, the temperature went to 40 degrees. The house has a fireplace but no heat. John and Dew, who were great, provided firewood - but it would not catch fire. So we had to wrap up in some blankets. One restaurant recommended by John and Dew - TAWA in Yucay - 5 min drive from house. Just awesome food, although a bit pricey.
Extremely nice house and hosts
We had a delightful stay in Urubamba at this very comfortable house. Juan and Dew were quite accommodating and helpful as hosts. The only slight drawback was that while the house location is an easy walk to town, Urubamba a bit more isolated than we expected in terms of seeing some of the sites in the area. It's an excellent set-up for families with a car. We did not have a car, so we instead relied on an extremely nice taxi driver named Roy. We also absolutely loved a small but totally delicious and accommodating restaurant just across the street: Mar & Cielo.
Comfortable house close to everything in town
We stayed at the home for one week. The fire place was nice as it did warm us up in the evenings. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows too. The care takers on site were very friendly. I liked the open concept of the home and the well stocked kitchen. All in all we were happy with the stay. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the extra costs that were added to the stay. As said in a past review we were charged for extra wood ( fair price but still charged). Then we were charged for the drinking water that was in the home ( way over charged). Then we were told the washer didn't work so we gave our close to the caretaker to wash ( as instructed) and she proceeded to take the clothes and put them in the washer on site ( the washer we were told didn't work). The charge for the clothes was reasonable it was just the fact we were told the washer didn't work and we stay in homes to avoid others doing the things we can do. We requested cleaning only once during the stay but found the meaning lady in our home several times when we cane back from an excursion ( not a bad thing but I like my privacy). The only other thing was there was a table put in the dining room full of over priced souvenirs for sale ( bracelets, leg warmers, scarves, key chains, gloves) all touristy over priced. As I said in the beginning the house is fine and comfortable and I would recommend it just be cautious of the extras!
Bright, expansive home with great views
Dew and Juan were incredible. Extremely responsive and able to help coordinate transportation whenever needed to the ruins or for a pizza run. Their attentiveness really made our stay special. This home is secluded away in a private gated community with a beautiful fenced in back yard that had a terrific variety of flowers blooming while we were there. While laundry facilities on property were not available to us - a laundry service was available to do your laundry at a very affordable rate. The home is extremely bright during the day yet be prepared for the cooler temperatures at night (high elevation). We found it necessary to have a fire each night in the fireplace with the tile floors and cooler evenings which requires the purchase of additional wood. One aspect of our stay which I will not soon forget was the view of the flowering bushes in the backyard and mountains behind them from the open window in the shower!
In summary, the home presents in person just like it does in the photo's. There is a nice restaurant right next door and in town you must visit Paca Paca's! Check out the restaurant at the five star resort as well if you feel like splurging one of the nights you are in town.
Beautiful, comfortable with fantastic and helpful hosts!
Breath taking, with the magestic Andes towering above the gardens and homes. Very quiet, clean, spacious and comfortable accomidations. Beds are comfortable with nice linens.
I really can't say enough about the hostesses. They arranged transportation and guides for us at reasonable prices. When I fell sick, they were so kind and helpful obtaining medicine and making tea, and checking on me.
