About Dave and Stephanie McKay
I have traveled to all 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii, The scenery in this area ranks with some of the best I have seen.
Dave and Stephanie McKay purchased this Mobile Home in 2011
Why Dave and Stephanie McKay chose Thompson
In 2012 myself and 8 others left from the front door and rode ATS to Arizona, which was a 504 ride each way. Where else in the world can you do that?
What makes this Mobile Home unique
In this Ghost town you are surrounded by government property and as a result a tremendous amount of freedom
nice place, plenty of room, clean
This is a great location. We've stayed there a couple of times. It's close to Moab.
A clean escape
As much as I want to selfishly leave a one star review to keep everyone away from this gem, I can't. This home was perfect and extremely clean. I loved the location away from all the Moab crowds. I can't wait to go back!
Very clean and comfortable
This place was very clean and comfortable. It was about 30 to 40 minutes from Moab but the drive was very easy and went by quick. A nice quiet place to come back and relax after a long day in Moab.
Great spot that’s quiet and hidden away
Well maintained property at an affordable price. Close enough to Moab and the Arches to make for easy half/full day trips to any surrounding areas. Highly recommend!
Fantastic amenities, friendly hosts
The Ranch House was the perfect place for us to stay one week into our two week road trip with our two dogs. In the virtual ghost town of Thompson Springs, I wasn't sure what to expect. This is desert, and the manufactured home is in a gravel RV Park. But once parked next to it, the wide covered porch provided a perfect and breezy staging area to move in for a few days. Upon opening we were immersed in a cozy world filled with western motifs, large comfy couches (electric lazyboys that you could probably sleep in!), plenty of space, and an amazing air conditioning system that definitely beat the desert heat.
We had left our car in Moab and rented a Jeep for off-roading from Barlow Adventures... after settling into the Ranch House, we went for an evening Jeep ride up Sego Canyon... right there... to see the ancient Indian petroglyphs... we didn't need the Jeep for that, but sure did for our adventures over the next two days! Dave, the host, was even kind enough to prepare a map of Sego and show us where the best sights were.
At the house we did our laundry, showered (incredible water pressure) and rested. It was just perfect. And, being dog friendly of course, sealed the deal.
The location is perfect for access to the interstate, and there is an Exxon and convenience store nearby. It is, however, a long drive to Moab and access to Arches and Canyonlands. This wasn't an issue for us, and honestly got us away from those crowded areas. We will definitely return.
Amazing accommodations !!!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Ranch House #4. Our first impression was how sparkling clean it was, plus the decor was so cute with its ranch/ cowboy theme with an emphasis on John Wayne. We loved the incredibly comfortable power recliner love seats. Other pluses were the AC, water pressure, late model washer and dryer, spacious deck with gas grill and plenty of coffee. We had all the comforts of home. Thompson Springs is conveniently located for visiting Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, scenic rt 128 and the La Sal mountain loop, Colorado Natl Mon, Grand Mesa, Co. the western museum on rt 128 at the Red Cliffs Lodge. Thanks for the hospitality. The manager Dave was very helpful. We would love to stay here again.
Great trails, for bicycling and ATVS. And many trails are drivable with a car. We are 10 miles north of some of the best dinosaur tracks as well as only 3 miles south of 4500 year old Indian pictographs.......Located at I 70 exit 187 we are on your way to Moab and just 33 minutes to down town
