Just steps away from the Big Horn River

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,400 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Enjoy your stay in Thermopolis at this newer construction, 3 bedroom 2 bath home. The Big Horn river is one of the best fisheries in the state, and you have access to it right outside your doors. On any given morning it is the norm to see pheasants or deer walking by, along with many different species of waterfowl enjoying the waters of the river. Easy access to the town of Thermopolis, which offers a world class dinosaur museum, and two commercial swimming pools where you can enjoy the water from the natural mineral hot springs. Boysen reservoir is 30min away, while the scenic town of Cody, and Yellowstone Park are within a 2 hour drive. The Riverview Guesthouse is great if you are in town to fish, hunt, explore the local area, or for a base while making day trips. Presently, we do not have a TV or wifi, and our intent with this guesthouse is to help people engage more with each other and their surroundings, while getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The location is ideal to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, and board games are provided if weather keeps you indoors. The trout fishing along this stretch of the river is very good with both public and private access to the river. This location allows nearly 6,000 feet of public fishing access along the river bank downstream from the house, and almost 2,000 feet of private river access upstream.

About Sherman Skelton

Growing up my family ranched in the area, and we farmed on the hay fields around the vacation property. I am very familiar with the area and am more than happy to give any input on additional things to do or see during your stay in Thermopolis.

Why Sherman Skelton chose Lucerne

My great grandparents farm house was right across the road from the vacation property. I am the fourth generation to own this property, and had always dreamt of building something near the river. It was a dream come true when I broke ground on "the cabin" in the spring of 2013. The project was made even more rewarding by the fact that I was able to build the house with the help of my father, and under the watchful eyes of my 2 year old son. I truly wanted this to be a multi generational project. I worked 4 days a week in Casper, and then drove to Thermopolis and worked on the house every Fri-Sun for the next two years. There are still some projects to to on the property, but we have really enjoyed sharing our place with people from around the country.

Very well maintained and beautifully decorated.

  • 5 of 5

We did not know what to expect but this beautiful place exceeded our expectations. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The area provided so many things to do and see and then we were able to come "home" to relax. In the morning we had coffee on the porch and saw cranes, deer, ducks and even an eagle flying the river. What an amazing experience. We plan to come back and bring the kids an their families...

Well furnished, cute, and right on the river. We loved it.

Exactly as described. More house than we even needed for a family of 4. Fishing is right out the back door and we could easily get to Thermopolis to hang out the hot springs. Everything that we needed was there and the house is in excellent shape. We would stay again.

Peaceful setting

  • 4 of 5

The property is just as described. A peaceful setting with an awesome view of the Big Horn. The house was immaculately clean and we'll equipped. My only complaint was that the bed was hard and uncomfortable. The owner stayed in communication and was quick to answer any questions. Yes, I would stay there again! Note* it was not possible to fish as the river was too swift and the banks we're steep. I suggest you bring mosquito spray so you can sit outside and enjoy viewing the amazing wildlife! The upstairs balcony gives you a perfect birds eye view.
