About Irene Karpouzi
My name is Irene and i am a photographer. My spare time I really like to read a good book and in summer i love to make long walks. A walk on Philopappou Hill is my favorite route. My favorite time of the day ... is late in the evening. When everyone in the house has been asleep and the city has plummeted. It's time to enjoy my drink on the terrace and plan the next day or not ! My decision to host people from other countries in my home came effortlessly. It seemed very interesting to me to meet people with other cultures, other interests than usual.
Irene Karpouzi purchased this Apartment in 1993
Why Irene Karpouzi chose Thissio
My apartment is located at the foot of Acropolis Hill, walking distance to all ancient sights, parks, art and culture, great views, restaurants and dining spots. The center of the city, (Syntagma square, Ermou street, National Garden, etc) are easily accessible either by foot or by metro.

Irene was a wonderful host and her home was immaculate. She provides everything you could need and it was all very clean and orderly. She is very responsive if you have any questions or need help. Fantastic location-dining, coffee, grocery and sites are all nearby. The bedroom was away from the street so no problem with noise .
Excellent location and very warm welcome from caring host.
Very central location, short walk to the Acropolis, restaurants, and shops. The hostess was very kind and ordered several taxis for us. Even had food for breakfast!
Exceeded my expectations
Excellent personal care from the owner. I was met on arrival and given most helpful advice on the property and splendid places to eat. I greatly enjoyed the location which was peaceful and interesting. The small balcony was a good venue for breakfast and for reading and watching the world go by. The apartment had everything I needed for a most enjoyable stay in Athens.
A wonderful first time visit
I had a really enjoyable stay in Athens, my first visit and I wish I had come years ago; I will be returning to Athens and this apartment next year.
The host, Irini is a lovely person, very warm and helpful and everything was done to ensure that the stay was a success. She arranged a taxi to pick me up at the Airport, it is possible to get train/Metro to nearest Metro station Thassio but I felt fare of €38 - this is controlled - was money well spent. Helpful driver held up a big sign with my name so very smooth.
The accommodation is accurately shown in the photos, a good size apartment, originally the family home. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable, I felt very much at ease. Irini had provided a bowl of fruit, fresh milk, butter, jam, bread etc which was a very nice gesture and much appreciated. Close by, in the same road, there is a reasonably sized supermarket, baker and pharmacy. I tried different Greek yoghourts, try the one in a terracotta pot, delicious with honey from Crete, from wild Thyme - perfect for breakfast with local bread and fruit. Sit on the small balcony and enjoy this and watch life.
The situation of the first floor apartment could not have been better; the road itself was not at all noisy, but a few hundred metres away there was a long, wide pedestrianised street with numerous open air restaurants/cafés which bustled with Athens life. A really good view of the Acropolis from here. The name of this Boulevard is Apostolou Pavlou and it was so enjoyable just strolling along, taking in the atmosphere. It is easy to get to the Acropolis Museum this way, a pleasant walk. The museum, excellent, has a nice restaurant with a large terrace.
Nearby is Filopappou Hill, Irini will tell you about it but I really just discovered it by accident. If time permits, go there, totally unspoilt, very few visitors but rich in history - the place where the Greek orators spoke to the people - it is one of the most important sites for democracy. The spot where they spoke, the Pnyx, is still there it has a wonderful view of the Acropolis.
The National Archeological Museum has a remarkable collection, not least treasures from Troy and of course statues from different eras of Greek civilisation. It was not crowded, easy on Metro and a short walk.
I experienced the warmth and courtesy of the Greek people, this together with seeing the antiquities for the first time, made a memorable experience.
Close to everything with superb view
Irene is a very friendly host, communication with her was flawless in advance of and during our stay. The apartment was spotlessly clean and very well equipped (e. g. sewing kit, first aid kit etc.). The apartment is nice and well-mended, the view from the roof terrace is spectacluar both day and night and the master bedroom to the back always ensured a good night sleep. All major sights, metro station and supermarket are in a few minutes walking distance Though in a lively neighborhood with lots of restaurants and bars there is still a lot of greek life going on! We loved our stay at Irene's place!
