Overview

About the property

A great spot to relax and unwind. Exclusive, secure + private oceanfront property

Our property is on a barrier island along Florida's east coast, about 3 miles north of Vero Beach, in one of the top rated, gated communities in the USA. Beautifully landscaped grounds. Centrally located at our property is a furnished tropical garden courtyard with a heated swimming pool. There are also 2 furnished oceanside decks to take in the sights, sounds and ocean air, situated directly atop the beach. There are miles of private beach to explore, with very little pedestrian traffic to deal with.

About John Hurley

For more than 30 years this has been a great retreat to come to, escaping from the harsh winter weather of western New York State. The weather is great here.

John Hurley purchased this condo in 1982

Why John Hurley chose Johns Island

A well maintained building and grounds. The ocean and beach are among the finest Florida has to offer! It is only a short drive to all the amenities of Vero Beach. Ther are factory outlets, great public golf courses, cinemas and numerous restaurants only minutes away. Always enjoyable to return to the quiet enjoyment our oceanfront property offers us.

What makes this condo unique

The heated pool, ocean decks, garden courtyard and amazing beach are unique benefits.

Sea turtles nest in the dune grasses on our beach every year. You can hike for miles in either direction on the beach. You can sit out on the ocean deck and relax. I have beautiful views from my second floor, covered balcony looking north east up the ocean and coast.

Great studio with ocean view

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much! The studio is cozy and very comfortable, especially the bed. The weather was perfect for sitting out on the back patio overlooking the ocean. The one time we had a question our call was responded to almost immediately! Couldn’t ask for more kind and considerate care. The bathroom was large and adjacent storage area provided enough space for most of our clothes. Kitchen was well equipped and there’s a super nice market minutes up the road. We also found a great restaurant about 4minutes away that we loved!

All in all the whole check-in and out process was very easy and our stay was perfect! Highly recommend !

Many problems

  • 3 of 5

The property description was deceptive. Not really wheel chair accessable inside the studio. You could get get thru the door but not much else. No two bathrooms as stated. No clothes dryer. The unit was in so so condition. Louvers to porch were in disrepair.as were louvers to kitchette. Fridge was a joke. No oven. Numerous other cosmetic issues. The bathroom was poorly designed. Toilet and shower area too cramped with lots of unused space beside it. There was no bath mat until 2 bundles of towels and linens were delivered a week after arrival. The property itself around the pool was well maintained and lovely. The proximity to the ocean was also a plus. The owner was responsive to my questions. There should have been some written instruction and local info. My wife could only access the building from the front door because of steps. Security locked those doors at 10pm and we needed a different key to get in. There was no mention of this we were given the required key when the maintenance guy was back in 2 days. I don't feel that the size and quality of the accommodation justify the cost especially in January when 90% of the units were empty.

Owner's Response: Sorry to read this review. We’ve updated the listing for clarity to people unfamiliar with the units at Johns Island’s “Island House “ property. The laundry facilities on site are not within the unit.

We got what we paid for

  • 3 of 5

The good: great AC, strong shower, large balcony, tremendous ocean view, beautiful pool, and a fair price. The not so good: soft bed, micro kitchenette, small screen TV, musty, no fan, small closet space.
