The house has been beautifully restored with a mixture of original features and high quality materials and is in a lovely setting within the centre of Aumes. Aumes has a tranquil atmosphere and being on a hill gives lovely views across the surrounding wooded garrigue and vineyards. The established garden is sheltered by old stone walls. The covered pergola has a dining table facing a tiled 8 x 4 pool with large gentle steps, perfect for children or the elderly. The pool can now be heated during the cooler months (please enquire). There is a warm water outdoor shower. Also on the terrace and new for 2018 is a comfortable L Shape lounge seating set with cushions, ideal for relaxing on before dinner or an afternoon siesta. Plus a new double sunbed with cushions to add to our existing single cushioned sunloungers. The high spec kitchen with an adjoining utility room leads on to a comfy sitting room with original stone fireplace and woodburner, WiFi, LCD TV, satellite etc. Further in the grounds is a self contained guest gite with bedroom and a walk in en-suite shower room, patio and satellite Lcd TV with a fully equipped kitchen. Ideal if you are sharing with other families or if any members wish to have extra privacy.

About Julie Branch
We are a family of 4 who previously lived in France while the children were very young. They enjoyed a completely carefree and happy childhood in the wonderful South of France a world away from the pressures of modern life in the UK. We decided to return just prior to their secondary education and they are now loving living in a City for the first time. We visit France as much as we can and it is a true second home for us, when we are "in residence" it seems that most of the village children are resident with us! Hope you enjoy the house as much as we do.
Julie Branch purchased this House in 2008
Why Julie Branch chose Aumes
We bought the house as for us (and we think you will agree) it is in a perfect location - 5 minutes from Pezenas and in a lovely setting within one of the prettiest villages in the surrounding area. The climate is superb, with glorious long summers and short and sunny winters. There are loads of festivals and events throughout the year and the local produce and seafood are out of this world. Eating oysters and drinking local Pinet wine in a little quayside restaurant in Bouziques is one of our favourite things. Did I mention the wine, locally produced Noilly Pratt and delicious olive oils!

A lovely house in a great location.
We spent a week in Julie and Jeff's lovely house in Aumes. It was perfect for 2 families of 4 and we would highly recommend it. The house itself was comfortable and very well appointed. The recommendations of things to do were really appreciated. We enjoyed 2 days at the beach, a visit to the Medieval Hill top town St Guilhem le Desert (use the park and ride!) and a swim and a kayak in the river. We also enjoyed exploring the old town of Pézenas and the Friday evening food & wine event that happens throughout August.
All in all a great holiday. We would happily come again.
South of France holiday home
This is a charming, typical for the area, French property. In the sleepy village of Aumes, five minutes away from the historic Pezenas, with all the restaurants and facilities you may need. We drove to the scenic hills in 40 minutes and the beach in 30. The courtyard has a 6' wall so is very private and the pool was big enough for the seven of us staying. The house is furnished as if the owners live there and is in very good condition throughout. The one bedroom annex at the rear of the courtyard has lots of character and gives those staying there a little privacy from those in the main house. The house has all the things you may need for a stay including good outside seating covered and open areas, a BBQ, A TV with sat channels (although we almost never used it) and plenty of space. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, utensils etc. The bedrooms and bathrooms are in very good condition and most importantly, clean. I would happily recommend staying here.
Great place - we came back!
We've been here twice now, two families sharing (eight of us altogether). Had a great time both times and hope to come back again one day. Perfectly sized property for us, clean, spacious and well equipped. Lovely old house, which has been upgraded inside. Village is very peaceful! Pezenas is very close by for evenings out, as are several beach resorts and inland lakes/rivers for day trips. Would highly recommend.
Thanks Robert, its great to have repeat guests and we look forward to welcoming you again some time. Best wishes, Julie Branch
Excellent property and location
I stayed at julies house in January this year with my daughter for a weeks break. The house was perfect for us to spend time together, lovely views, quiet setting with some nice walks from the house. The nearby markets are great, the french really know their produce, and we really enjoyed shopping for our meals followed by a coffee and cake at a cafe. Although it was out of season and the pool was not opened the walled garden was very sheltered from wind and was always sunny so we still were able to eat “alfresco” for lunch under the pergola. It did get chilly at night but sitting by the log burner in the main living room with the underfloor heating on was very cosy. It really is a beautiful house, just a lovely place to be, an authentic french house in an authentic french village. I would imagine it is lovely in the summer with the pool up and running. We were told the pool is now heated so watch this space. Downsides, well we did overdo the red wine a bit but, oh well!!!
Had a really enjoyable family holiday at this house in Aumes for October half term. We were blessed with the weather and were able to spend most days enjoying the new recently installed heated pool which my teenage boys loved. The house itself has been sympathetically restored by its current owners and benefits from a nice big modern kitchen and stylish interior throughout. There is a wood burning stove for chillier evenings which makes the lounge area cosy and warm. The house is well located for all major airports and motorway access but the village itself is traditional Southern France architecture and is very peaceful. The garden is very sheltered and sunny and it was a real treat to be able to eat outside so late in the year. We did venture out when we could pull ourselves away from the pool and took the boys Karting one day to nearby Marseillan Plage where they tested their skills on a well designed track. Afterwards we went to a lovely seafood restaurant at the Port of Meze and enjoyed traditional Moules and Frites. The weekly market at Montagnac is worth a visit on Friday mornings. Pezenas is the nearest historic town which has good facilities including supermarkets and local shopping. We enjoyed a coffee sitting in the sunshine. All in all a wonderful place to stay and I would love to come back for a longer period in the summer.
Amazing Highly Recommend
We stayed in the summer with 2 families plus my parents. This is a very special house and we all really enjoyed our stay. My parents absolutely loved it, we gave them the master bedroom and i can still see them sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine watching us in the pool. My son came with his fiance so they had the gite (well away from us!) which was self contained with all the facilities of the house it was very comfortable with a lovely patio outside the main doors. I really recommend this house especially for sharing families as it is easy for everyone to have their own space when they want it. Everything else was perfect, beaches, villages were pretty and the owners provide a helpful booklet with a list of local recommendations. We tried some of these and they were all great. Our highlight was a wonderful meal at the Le St Barth restaurant, in Marseillan. The house is in a perfect setting and we liked being in the village centre rather than isolated outside so we could walk to the shop and enjoy the village atmosphere. Their is very little traffic and we felt comfortable to let the children cycle around the village on their own which they loved, they even made some French friends. When we did manage to drag the children from the pool, the countryside surrounding the village is stunning with lovely views from the house and garden. The owners indicate some walks from the house and i really recommend these for the whole family. My other recommendations are the market in Pezenas and a day trip to the wonderful city of Montpellier. All in all a fantastic holiday, I am sure we will be back.
Special interest holidays:
The area is excellent for many activities including walking, cycling, photography. We also can recommend wine tasting tours with some excellent vineyards in the immediate area.
The nearest beach is Meze which is about a 20 min drive. This is good for children as it has a very gentle beach and gentle waves. There are many beaches in the cap d'agde area or nearby Beziers. Lots of cool beach bars spring up during the summer months, ideal for lunch or just lounging on soft beds.
Bezier 30 mins. Montpellier 60 mins. Carcassone 120 mins. Nimes 120 mins. The distance by road from Calais is 600 miles. All the airports are provided by the major car hire companies. The use of a car although not absolutely essential but is recommended. There is a bus service running through the village and a very useful 'beach bus' which in high season runs from Pezenas to the beaches at Cap D'Agde for a very reasonable fare.
Pezenas 2km. Montpellier 45kms. Montagnac 2km
Supermarkets, banks, etc are found at nearby Pezenas along with a great selection of restaurants, cafes and bars. The weekly Saturday market is a must for delicious food and seasonal produce. Antique shops are located in the town centre as well as interesting gift and clothes shops. The night market in summer is great fun and the town comes alive with people and outside late dining. During the summer months of July and August there are loads of events and festivals in the surrounding towns and cities. September is a great month to experience the "vendange" (grape harvest), and the long summer sun expected from the region. The port town of Marseillan has some very elegant waterfront bars and chic shops and well worth a visit for a relaxing lunch or evening drink. The other port town of Meze has a nice beach which is ideal for children on both sides of the port and a great selection of sea food restaurants. Bouziques is another gem close by for charming seafood restaurants in pastel coloured little buildings along the sea front.
