About this property
Granary Cottage - Llangynidr, Crickhowell, Brecon Beacons
Granary Cottage, originally part of a corn mill and built approximately 150 years ago on the banks of the Nant Cleisfer. Recently lovingly renovated into a contemporary mews style cottage in a peaceful courtyard setting.
The cottage is located in the pretty Welsh village of Llangynidr, which is situated in the beautiful Usk Valley in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
The village has 2 pubs; both serving food, which is also available to takeaway, and with children's play areas. The Red Lion is renowned for its excellent real ale and the Coach and Horses also houses a deli selling fresh fish, meats and other local produce. There is also a village shop with a cafe, a garage and a recreational playing field with children's play park and tennis courts.
From the cottage there is easy access to local walks and cycling. The River Usk and the Brecon and Monmouth Canal both flow through the village.
Accommodation comprises:
Entrance Hallway - spacious area for storing all of your walking boots, a pushchair or even a couple of bikes
Kitchen / Breakfast Room - fitted kitchen and appliances; electric double oven with ceramic hob, kettle, toaster, microwave, washing machine, fridge freezer as well as a 'nook' table with benches; the kitchen is well equipped for up to 6 guests.
Sitting Room - with 3 windows all with views over the Nant Cleisfer and surrounding countryside, 2 comfortable sofas and an armchair, 32" LED TV with Freesat and Blu-ray/DVD player. There is also an open fire for cosy, romantic evenings.
Spacious Galleried Landing - perfect place to sit and relax in a comfy chair with a book. There is a selection of books provided, including some on the local area and walks.
Bedroom 1 - very spacious room with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside and the Nant Cleisfer below. This room sleeps up to 4 in 1 double and 2 single beds.
Bedroom 2 - with a window on either side this room is saturated with natural light and has a lovely relaxing feel to it. Wake up to the relaxing sound of the Nant Cleisfer river. Sleeps 2 in a double bed.
Bathroom [only accessible from Bedroom 2] - newly fitted bathroom; electric shower over bath, hand basin, wc, heated towel rail and illuminated mirror with shaver point.
The ceilings in the cottage are of varying heights, some of the lower ceilings are in the bathroom and bedroom 2. This is an old building and such features add to the charm and quirkiness of the cottage; however, this does mean that the shower is lower on the wall than it may otherwise be and could make it difficult for tall guests to use the shower; although the shower head is detachable.
Outside - there is a courtyard to the front of the cottage, which is not fully enclosed. There is a bench and garden furniture provided.
Parking - off road parking for one car adjacent to the courtyard, and on road parking for additional vehicles nearby.
The Brecon Beacons National Park, with its breath-taking scenery, has so much to offer to those wanting a quiet, relaxing holiday and wishing to get away from it all. However, if you are looking for a holiday full of excitement and adventure:-
There are fantastic walks - some straight from the cottage door
Wildlife watching
Canoeing
Horse riding
Sailing on nearby Llangorse Lake - which is also a haven for wildlife
Caves, forests and waterfalls to explore, the list goes on...
The Brecon Beacon National Park is a certified IDA Dark Sky Reserve. On a clear night in the Brecon Beacons, star-gazers are in for a real treat. You may see major constellations, the Milky Way and may be lucky enough to see meteor showers - it is truly magical!
There are some great towns nearby full of character and waiting to be explored:
Crickhowell (4 miles) is a delightful market town with a wide selection of places to eat. It is the perfect place to chill out, do some shopping and pick up some unique gifts on their independent high street. You may also like to see the castle ruins and the 17th century bridge over the River Usk, with its odd arches; 12 on one side and 13 on the other!
Also nearby are the larger market towns of Brecon (10 miles), nestled in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons with its ancient cathedral, and Abergavenny (10 miles) where there is an award winning annual food festival that attracts visitors from across the UK and abroad.
Further afield you may wish to visit Cardiff (38 miles) for a wider range of shops or to see a show at Wales Millennium Centre in the bay, or Hereford (36 miles) with its cathedral that contains the fascinating Mappa Mundi, the largest medieval map of the world known to still exist.
Granary Cottage is the perfect base for doing all these things and many more. There are also local village shows and festivals, including the Green Man Festival on Glanusk Park every August. This is within walking distance of Llangynidr.
