Christopher and Karen visited part way through their travels around the UK.
On meeting them we suggested if they were walkers then perhaps a recently walked High Cup Nick fell was well worth the effort, especially if the weather was good and clear……. So they took that upon themselves and were not disappointed.
They were very pleasant couple and visited our local Michelin star pub whilst staying here - perfect as it’s only a minute walk away.
We would certainly host them
again.
I am a repeat guest at Pottery Cottage, it is always a pleasure to stay there. The property is well appointed, comfortable and clean, and the owners are helpful and considerate.

It is always good to get excellent comments.
We look forward to welcoming you back.

Sandra and James have a beautiful cottage attached to their home in Skelton, a pretty village in the Lakes Distict. Sandy was very helpful with suggestions for hikes and restaurants. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had all the basics. There is a pretty garden for enjoying the morning sun.
We only booked for a short break to extend our holiday but we all wish we were staying longer at Pottery Cottage. Lovely property with everything you need; spotlessly clean; beautiful gardens and views. Lovely welcome from our hosts, Sandy & James.

V clean & well-equipped, inc home baked mince pies from charming owners, who are next door at hand for any issues. Lovely open outlook to Blencathra saddle over well-maintained gardens. Ideal for short break. Michelin pub food at weekends across road!
Warm and well equipped cottage in a great location. We arrived after a long and wet journey from Kent and Sandra and James were very welcoming. The cottage is of a very high standard, immaculately clean and in a great location.
We spent an enjoyable coupon days revisiting parts of the Lakes and will be back
Immaculate cottage in beautiful village - highly recommended
This cottage was perfect in almost every way. It is located in a quite village in beautiful countryside. It is well-equipped and very comfortable. It is a little further away from major Lake District locations than some would consider ideal but is still within easy driving distance of them.
Lovely cottage with everything you could possibly want. Very close to the M6 (10minute drive) and perfectly positioned to exore Cumbria and the Lake District. Ullswater/Kendal/Keswick all within a short drive. Debs couldnt have been nicer or more welcoming. Felt like we I knew her my whole life lolWould highly recommend. Photos do not do the cottage justice.
Property was exactly as advertised. It’s beautifully kept by the owners. The kitchen is really well equipped for self catering. It’s easy to get to and from the motorway and a great location for exploring the local area. Recommend doing the Honister Slate Mine, Keswick, Kayaking on Derwent water and Aira force waterfall. Will definitely look to go back and would stay here 😃.

Very welcome guests. they enjoyed their adventures in the local area. always communicated well, during and prior to their stay- we would certainly welcome them back again .
Clean, tidy 2-story cottage with beautiful window views and a great location for visiting Lake District sights. Friendly, welcoming, helpful hosts with wonderful sightseeing advice.
My only suggestions would be for a small coffee table in front of the couch to set down drinks as you watch the TV. And maybe some bathroom soap or body wash for us long distance travelers.
All in all, we had a very comfortable, pleasant stay! Thank you.

Hi Paula
We’re glad our cottage met your needs. It’s always good to know we have got things just right.
About the suggestion of a coffee table in front of the couch - it has been in my thoughts recently, I’ll take a look and see what’s around.
We hood you’ve enjoyed the rest of your trip ?
It was lovely meeting you both.
Kind regards Sandra and James
The cottage is absolutely lovely, well stocked with absolutely everything you need.
Everything is high quality.
Everything matches.
The only downside for us was the listing says "the thriving local pub" is in fact now a Michelin, reservation-required, and busy, restaurant. So be prepare to drive for your happy hour and dinner if you are not dining at home.
(I understand it is quite an honour to be Michelin listed, and thus may actually be a bonus to staying at the Cottage).

We choose Pottery cottage for its close by lakes and locations that we like to explore and it was perfect. Sarah has been quick and helpful communicating and welcoming. The property was immaculately clean, accurately described at website, kitchen well equipped, living room specious then it looks in the picture, beautiful garden. our 8 year old enjoyed board games. Nearest M&S food hall was 10-12 min away. It is good base to visit surrounding -Pooley bridge, Ullswater was 25 min away. Glenridding 34 min and Keswick less then half an hour, Ambleside 47 min away. The village is quite , peaceful, local pub was 2 min walk. We loved and enjoyed our stay ; recommend to friends too.

About the host
Hosted by Sandra Morfett-Murdock
We have lived in Cumbria for over 20 years having moved from Cheshire for work and fell in love with this beautiful area. It has been a fantastic place to bring up our family, giving us amazing opportunities on our doorstep. We are now retired and the children have flown the nest. We still love where we are and it is great to welcome returning and new guests alike to our lovely cottage and even better when they enjoy this perfect piece of England as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
We were looking for a lifestyle choice in rural Cumbria and found it in Skelton. An unspoiled village with easy access to the lakes and fells and local towns including Penrith and Carlisle.
What makes this property unique
The cottage is very well located to access the Northern lakes and fells and the local gateway towns of Penrith and Keswick are within a short drive. We have many repeat visitors who love the convenience of the area and the peacefulness of being away from the crowds. Our Village pub, the Dog and Gun, boasts a Michelin star and has won many awards for their superb food.. Penrith our local town is relatively unspoiled with a variety of independent shops and traders. It has an "old style” independent cinema too which is well worth a visit. The area is great for cycling and you can be underneath Blencathra before you know it on an afternoon or evening cycle ride. Also we have a couple of "open air lidos" nearby - summer only!
