About John Grubb
Our family has always enjoyed being near the water. After we purchased the house there was not a lot of discussion about where we were going to go or what we were going to do. We got the kids and headed to the lake. We thought at first that we would host lots of parties but as time went by it became a sanctuary for our family to gather and relax. The kids went off to school and Kyna and I found out we used it even more. The kids are married now and when they are in town we still gather at the lake house. Kyna and I are traveling more and thought we would share our place with you.
John Grubb purchased this House in 2002
Why John Grubb chose Fallstown
Kyna and I both grew up near Lake Norman and spent a lot of summers on the lake. Myself for sailing and Kyna for waterskiing. We knew we wanted deep water year round and a great view of the lake. We looked at a lot of houses but never could find the perfect place. When we saw this property our search was over. We have a large lot with plenty of shade and great outdoor gathering spaces. The view from the rockers on the porch for us is magical. We can sit and watch the heron that visits each morning or the ducks and geese that come by in the afternoon. Picnic on the dock are fun as we share our food with the fishes. Inside, there are great rooms for gathering and there is always a pool game going on in the lower level. Each bedroom has a queen bed and its own bathroom. The kids have always slept in the loft which has an awesome view of the house and the lake.
What makes this House unique
One of the best places to be is on the back deck watching the sun set or the kids play. You can see when the boat comes in or who is going off the dock. The kitchen has two doors that open onto the deck for easy access to the grill. The great room also opens to the deck and offers a wonderful view of the lake and the dock. We did not realize until three years ago when we built a new dock how much time we spent on the water. Kyna prefers to sun on the upper level while being Irish my skin and I prefer the shaded gazebo below.

Overall my stay at the lake house was good. The weather did not cooperate with us and it was much cooler than typical for spring break...of course not the house’s fault. The owners were very nice and responsive and all instructions were clear.
The issues I had was that there was only one TV and no DVD player. I wish the master and the downstairs area had TV’s. Also the kitchen was stocked but the pans were not nonstick, so even with cooking spray...everything stuck.
I would consider staying again though if it was at a time when the weather is nice and we will be outside most of the time.
This is our second year of spending Thanksgiving at this home on the lake. It is beautiful, peaceful, and accommodates all of our needs. We hope to return next year because we just love it here!
Secluded, Spacious and exactly what we hoped for...
We had a group of friends that have been doing a get-away weekend for the past 20 years. We've stayed in a wide-variety of locations, states, and venues (ie. houseboats, condos, resorts, etc.). We only ask for a comfortable place, great amenities, and plenty of room for fun and relaxing. This place fit the bill, perfectly. Great price for the size and location. Excellent pool table. Quiet road with a great water cove. Incredibly nice, well-kept dock. The house is a little dated as other reviews have mentioned, but I don't consider that a detriment... the price more than reflects that. It is very comfortable. The only little suggestion would be (since we had 5 guys on a college football weekend) a TV in the downstairs pool room/family room would be nice. The owner was extremely responsive, timely, and engaging. Everything he promised was spot on. We would definitely stay again.
Would love to go back
Comfy Lake House with a Great Dock
My family enjoyed staying for an extended weekend escape. The house has that rustic lodge cabin vibe to it with lots of wood. I'll suggest it was built in the 70s and will agree with some of the other reviewers that it has a slightly dated feel, but has plenty of space and is comfortable. It's not a new place but completely adequate. The second floor balcony has several rocking chairs and a great view down to the water and dock. It's a great place to sip your coffee in the morning. The dock area is very nice with two levels and is located just off of the main channel. It's not too busy yet easily accessible. There is not a lot of fishing structure from the dock, but we did catch several bass and catfish. The downstairs pool table came in handy to distract kids and adults from the electronic devices. There's plenty of parking out front and a small convenience store is maybe 7 mins down the road. Getting to a major grocery store from here is quite a bit further. The house had solid WIFI and an older tube TV with cable. I do wish for an updated flat screen for games or a movie night. I will definitely say that the online photos that we saw posted here do not do the house justice. It's nicer. I could definitely see us coming back another time and have no problem recommending it. @adambrooks
Excellent lake front property with plenty to do.
We spent Labor Day weekend at this house with 8 adults. Easily accommodated our group (space for air mattresses if not wanting to share beds). We were very happy with the dock and lake access along with a nicely shaded back deck. House also had a basketball hoop in the driveway. House was well equipped with cookware to prepare meals at home.
