Chez-Provence has three bedrooms, a dining room seating up to six, and adjacent kitchen overlooking the pretty gardens. To the rear of the house are two double bedrooms, one of which is ensuite, and a third bedroom with two single beds. There is also a main family bathroom.
Cotignac is one of the prettiest small towns in Provence. Built into and at the foot of the famous limestone rock-face, the old village streets wind down past the town hall to "the high street" - a wide avenue flanked by plane trees. Here a busy and picturesque market is held every Tuesday. Cotignac has two good bakeries, a fish shop, a butchers, a delicatessen, a small super-market and many other types of shop. Just outside the town is a large supermarket and a bio-shop.

A refaire.

We made a last minute decision to visit this area of Provence on our way back from our travels around Spain. We had heard so much about this region and it turned out to be fabulous. It’s incredibly beautiful and great for walking and cycling. The house was just perfect for us. It’s much nicer than the photos indicate and seems to have had a revamp but the online images have not been updated which is a shame. It’s very spacious and comfortable. The wood burner was a great boon in the evenings. Daytime temperatures were very pleasant and we had lunch on the pool terrace enjoying the fabulous views. The pool looked very inviting but the weather wasn’t warm enough to try it. Cotignac itself is a gorgeous village with lots of restaurants, cafes, boutiques, art galleries and craft shops. We also had a couple of day trips out to the Verdon Gorge and the lake which is only about a 40 minute drive away. Absolutely amazing place and wonderful for walking. We had planned to visit St Tropez for a day out and a nice lunch but never made it as there was so much to do locally. We love the Med at this time of year as there are so few visitors and the weather is usually lovely during the day. This trip was one of our most enjoyable. We’re thinking of returning for a longer stay next year.

Why they chose this property
Clare and Jeremy fell in love with this house in Provence after trying many regions of France over the last decade. Whilst being close to the lively village of Cotignac, it remains a quiet and private property and it is located in the heart of Provence.
What makes this property unique
Once the home of Canadian author Timothy Findley, the house has unusually well-developed gardens and the interior is full of charm. Much of Timothy Findley's library remains here as well as his writing desk. We have added a good-sized swimming pool on one of the terraces so as to make this a perfect holiday house for hot summer Provencal days.
