A Nice Place to Stay

Overall, this was a nice place to stay. Lots of free parking (and not micro-spaces), a pretty good location, decent fixtures in the unit. Yes, there were a few mosquitos in the unit (no more or less than you will likely find in other rental units on St. Croix), but I left an electric flyswatter/zapper in the unit when I left, so future renters can take care of that!

Sun, Sand & Sea

This property is at the end a stretch of sandy beach with shallow water protected by a break about 500 ft. out. The staff was friendly and kept the property maintained. We did not have a view of the ocean from our unit, but it was a short walk to the beach.

The good: The host is very nice. This condo is on ground level which is a plus and only a one minute walk from the beach which is great. The location is ideal. The grounds are beautiful. It is also air-conditioned, which is great. The patio furniture is very nice, and a grill is available a few steps from the unit.Needs improvement: The silverware was limited and there were only 4 forks, but possibly people have accidently thrown it or something. The woodwork needs a good scrubbing but other than that the place was clean. The twin beds are not very comfortable, should probably be replaced.

St Croix trip

The property was great! All the needed amenities, and some extras were available. Beds are very comfortable and the entire property was clean and easy to access. Everything in the condo exceeded our expectations. Seaweed invasion on that side of the island is not ideal but not able to be controlled and certainly didn’t stop us from enjoying the island. Thank you!!

Hi Jeff, Thanks for staying with us. I'm sorry to hear that you had a bug problem. I've never had a complaint about mosquitos at Colony Cove but being so close to the beach, we do get the no-see ums ( tiny beach gnats ) from time to time. They are most prevalent closer to the beach and low to the ground. Since you were ground floor near the beach and pool I'm betting that you experienced the no-see-ums and not mosquitos. Your friends were at the back of the complex, away from the beach and third floor which is why they would not have no-see-ums. Thank you for the heads up about the AC. I found the bedroom AC units working fine but the living room blowing not so cool air and have called for service. All of our units at Colony Cove are privately owned and have different owners. Some are nicer or have more upgrades/amenities and those units are priced accordingly. Thanks again for being our guest and we do hope to see you again, Thanks ! Earl

Beautiful and much needed

The condo was great, it had a great location (<10 to Christianstead) plenty of space and was very clean. There were towels to use as well as beach/pool toys and snorkel gear. The beds were comfortable, as was all the seating. Earl was so helpful when we couldn’t get the Wi-Fi to work (user error) and even stopped by during our stay to make sure everything was working well! We will definitely be back!

First experience in Saint Croix!

This was the first time visiting. The property was so clean and well maintained. I loved the condo and it was literally right on the beach, with a pool. It was in the center of every place we wanted to visit. The employees were so nice and helpful as well as the residents. I loved Colony Cove and hope they will have me back, I enjoyed myself so much I am coming back with my family. I can't stop thinking about how much fun we had. Thank you for such a wonderful, place that felt like home.❤

Hi Linda, I'm sorry that you did not enjoy the condo. The beds are brand new and they look exactly like the photos on VRBO so I really do not know what "ok" means. Thank you for the feedback on the loose bath sink...a simple squirt of Liquid Nails will fix that. Again, the baths look exactly like the photos and there are no plumbing issues so again I do not know what to make of "terrible" as that really tells me nothing. Did you not like the style? the color? what? You were here for an entire MONTH and I visited you several times and ran into you in the parking lot more than once and you said nothing so this surprises me a bit. Hope you enjoyed your time on island and will visit again. thanks Earl

Great location, great host

We loved our stay! We had a group of 8 people spread between 3 condos. The pool was a nice hang spot for our lazy days. The snorkeling at the beach behind the condo was one of the best spots on the island! The tire reef had lots of fish- and I saw a sea turtle when I swam a bit further out! Two tasty restaurants located in walking distance- we loved them both so much we went to each multiple times. Earl was a great host- he addressed a wifi issue promptly and effectively, and gave us lots of great tips for the island. Can’t wait to come back!

Colony Cove

I have stayed at several properties on ST Croix while building my own house This area is a nice area to stay on the North end. The Condo is clean and on the first floor( a plus). The pool is nice and the Sea is Blue. Not to much of a Sea view, but very nice garden view. Also has very large Televisions and a washer/ dryer in the unit. A very important feature when staying in a condo. ( no $3.00 wash and $2.00 dry)

Spacious & Comfortable. Great location for the price.

We liked the convenient location to downtown Christiansted. The 2bdr, 2 bath unit was spacious with a large patio. The sofas were comfortable for relaxing after a busy day. The property Manager, Earl, was very responsive & helpful. He was knowledgeable about the area. There was seaweed on the beach during our stay. It did have a bad smell and you really could not use the beach. This impacted several beaches in the area. This is beyond anyone's control. We were able to go to other beaches and see more of the island. We had a great stay.

Dive trip

We stayed here for a dive trip - it was pretty much centrally located to all dives so that was nice - a 15 minute drive to each spot. We rented a car which is 100% necessary for staying at this property as it is not a walkable location— you will have to drive to grocery, restaurants and bars —but we knew that when booking. No big deal for us. 1 minute drive to the grocery store and downtown less than ten minute drive with shops and so much good food! WiFi worked great and I was even able to do some work while there. There was a ton of seaweed at the beach at the property while there, so not able to swim there at all - but of course that isn’t the property owners fault. A quiet location and I slept like a rock with the ice cold AC. There was some snorkeling gear and plenty of extra beach towels.

I would definitely stay here again. Being steps away from the ocean was so relaxing, and we had a screened in porch in the back to enjoy the sound. The beach wasn't white sand, but it was very acceptable and chairs were available. We had fun chilling, walking around, and catching tiny shell crabs. The condo complex grounds, parking lot, and the pool were very clean. Very quiet. Window a/c units in each room. However, if you are the type to want a perfect room, you may be unhappy. I'm sure every condo in the complex is different, but ours had some signs of needing refurbishing (grout, tile, bathroom fixtures, etc). But I will emphasize that I would stay here again since everything else met our needs. Note: you will need a car for this location. It is not walkable to anything.

Nice condo, washer and dryer was nice. Home is needing much upgrading

The stay was pleasant as we had daily Excursions planned, the master bedroom ac had to be fixed and dint get replaced till our 5th day. Somewhat disappointing since me and my husband had to sleep on the couch and he in a chair. There was alot of brown surfside stargassum, which had rotted so the smell was unbearable outside and coming thru the ac in living room. The plug in scattered thru the home weren't enough. Note to any other renters, go to opposite side of island during June and July. We had a good experience and would rent again, yet not in those months. Much upgrading is needed with pot and pans, utensils, towel hangers.

Hi Daniela, Thanks for staying with us and for taking time to write a review. I'm sorry you had to put up with the Sargasso grass...never used to be a problem but recently we have been getting a lot of it. And good point to future guests...go west...the west end beaches never get it so Rainbow and Dorsch Beach are always a good bet. Thank you for the heads up on the kitchenware as well....I will be sure to check that out. I hope the new AC helped out and I feel bad that you had to sleep in the living room AC. It did take me a bit to get approval from the owner for it..... Since you told me that it WAS cooling, but only down to 78 degrees, the owner was a little reluctant to replace it. I explained that you told me that where you were from you were not accustomed to the heat and so he agreed to spend the $500.00 on a new AC for you. We hope that you will come visit again..and yes...come in Nov-April...it's much cooler at night and we do not have the Sargasso sea grass during that time. thanks again ! Earl

Dated, but doable

The check in prices was great and the manager was responsive and timely to all emails. The condo was a good size. but dated. It was clean enough and stocked with beginning supplies. The kitchen leaves a lot to be desired. We were the for 2 weeks and the kitchen wares were lacking. The pots & pans.... very few and the skillet needed to go in trash. There was no plastic container/ dishware to take to the pool or beach. The master slider didn't open, nor did most of the windows in the unit. The slider screens in the living room were useless since they were torn off the slider frame. We made do, but the unit could use some love and the kitchen goven thought. It was quite apparent to me this owner does not spend any time in this condo. it is only an income unit with little investment. For the price i expected a little more. We made do, but it was not a unit to brag about.

Hi Sheila, Thank you for staying with us and for providing feedback on your stay. I checked the unit and did find that we could use some new pots and pans and that the living room slider screens needed repair. However, I did find that all the windows worked as well as the master bedroom slider. All that was required there was to lift the security bar that holds the door shut. I was a little confused about it being dated. The owner has actually spent quite a bit of money here over the past two years. All the floor tile is brand new as well as the living room furniture, bedroom furniture and the 50" TV in the living room. I hope you had a great time on St Croix and will visit again. thanks ! Earl

Hi Linda, Thanks for staying with us. I hope you had a great time and will come again. And thank you for supporting the locals. I tell everyone that the mom and pop places are the best and if you see a guy set up in a parking lot with a grill...you need to stop..it will truly be a taste of St Croix. thanks again, Earl

Great place

We came down for a job in STX and we’re very happy with the unit. Cold AC, comfy beds, and hot water. Great location. Highly recommended.

Colony Cove 2021

Beautifully island, lots of places to explore, many remote beaches, plenty of restaurants, beach bars, overall fun experience, have been to Saint Croix 6 times now, love the island. Unfortunately the sargassum seagrass was plentiful on the beach, creating a rotten egg smell, not able to enjoy the beach or pool, but traveled to many other beaches & there was none. A bartender told me about life on island: “go to store for Raisin Bran & leave with Cheerios “ It’s not for everyone but the island has a great charm about it, but realize island time is a real thing. Still love Saint Croix, still had a positive experience, will be back.

Hi Fred, Thanks so much for staying with us at A Shore Thing. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay on the island. The Sargasso HAS been bad this year and I feel bad for those who are here for only a week or two and have to smell that and not get enjoyment of the great little beach we have right in front of Colony Cove. I do think that this might be something that we have to deal with each year. Future guests reading this may want to consider that for travel in late summer and consider a trip between Oct and June instead when we don't typically have this issue. You were a great guest and a pleasure to host...hope to see you again. thanks ! Earl
