Live a bit of French History and stay in 'Le Cardinal', an Historic Stone Townhouse in the center of Old Amboise with private courtyard, parking and views of the Royal Palace.

This three-story classic French Townhouse built in the 1800's was once a part of the bustling Place Richelieu along the Route to Chenonceau, the most famous of the Loire Valley 16th century Chateaux, and was the property of the Priory of St. Thomas.

Le Cardinal is a three-minute walk from the Royal Palace and two minutes from the Rue Nationale, with its Clock Tower, clothing and antique shops, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, cheese shops, bakeries, bike rentals, etc.

The popular Amboise Open Market, along the Loire River, is only a six-minute walk, as is the Chateau Clos Luce, the last home of Leonardo da Vinci, now a museum in his honor.

After a day of visiting the quintessential Chateaux of the Loire Valley, you will have the pleasure of returning to your home located on a cul-de-sac, facing the Park Jeanne d'Arc. There is one parking space beside the townhouse, a private courtyard off the kitchen with fountain and eating area.

When you enter Le Cardinal, you will be transported back to another time with its intricate tiled floors, four marble fireplaces, detailed wainscoting, chandeliers and antique furnishings.

The first floor is light and spacious with a classical foyer and elegant salon complete with crystal chandeliers and marble fireplace.

The open kitchen has a center island, rustic large double basin sink and modern appliances.

The large dining area also has a marble fireplace as well as wainscoting, chandelier, Henri II buffet, large French farm table that seats 8 and classic French terra cotta tile floor.

Head up the stairs off the kitchen, to the second floor complete with rich parquet floors to the first bathroom with open shower and all new fixtures.

There are three bedrooms each with large windows looking over the Place Richelieu, two of which have marble fireplaces.

The main bedroom with a French queen size bed and antique canopy has a second connecting bedroom room with a Napolean III double bed, perfect for families traveling with small children.

The third floor is a treat for the senses with large oak beams, slanted roof line and parquet floors.

The second bathroom is directly to your right and features all new fixtures including a large soaking tub, electric towel rack and clothes washing machine and dryer.

Next is the sitting room with a sofa bed, large TV with VCR/DVD players and a selection of English films, and a splendiferous view of the castle.

The second main bedroom is next and has exposed beams a dormer window and a French Queen bed.

Live the life of French Gentry and stroll among the Amboisiens filling your basket with all the delights the Touraine has to offer.

Then, return to Le Cardinal, your Amboise Townhouse, to prepare your meal and dine in the stone terraced courtyard off your kitchen.

Retire to your elegantly decorated bedroom and live the life of French gentry.

Perfect location, perfect house, perfect hosts

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay at Steven and Veronica's house in Amboise. They went ABOVE AND BEYOND to help us have a wonderful vacation experience with our four young children. When we arrived, they had chocolate eggs hidden all over the house for my little ones to find! And they were completely gracious when I needed to add a day to our itinerary, AND locked my cell phone inside the house after closing the door to leave (Veronica drove to the house from the countryside let me back in on a quiet Sunday morning).

The town of Amboise is one of the most charming places we have visited in France to date. It is so fun to be able to walk into the Centre Ville from Le Cardinal. We drove to a castle every day of our trip, and we were only a 5 minute drive from the Mini Castle park (which our children would have loved, but it wasn't open for the season yet). Leonardo da Vinci's home in Amboise was my husband's favorite -- fascinating and fun for kids too. Fun boutique shopping in town. We finished our Loire Valley Castle Vacation by taking our children to Disneyland Paris to see one last magical castle.

This was a home run. Thank you Steven and Veronica!

Wonderful house, great location, well equiped

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with another couple, and the house worked out wonderfullly. Shops and restaurants within walking distance. Great home base for visiting castles and area vineyards. This is a great town and the people are so friendly and nice. The house had everything you needed to make a meal, and is a cosy place. We used the garden area in the evening to relax and enjoy a bottle of wine. We enjoyed the area restaurants as well, and found them to be very reasonably priced

Wonderful Stay in the Loire

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a wonderful stay in Le Cardinal - it was a perfect location for the part of the Loire we wanted to explore. Steven & Veronica were wonderful hosts and could not have been more helpful! The house was very comfortable and had everything we could possibly need - including champagne glasses!

Comfortable, charming and centrally located

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Le Cardinal in August 2013. Two families with 2 kids spread out up and down the three story townhouse. The kids loved the layout and our 13yr. old daughter loved the "princess room!" The kitchen was well appointed and the owners helped us secure a private chef for dinner in one evening. He prepared a simple meal for the kids and an adult menu for us! We all agreed it was well worth it. Walking to the central part of Amboise was a breeze - bike rental, castle tours and delicious eats everywhere. It was a perfect end to our European tour. I would stay here again without hesitation and will recommend to friends.
