About the host
Hosted by Alistair Haydock
Born and bred in Milngavie, I have loved growing up in one of Scotland’s best villages (some would say town). The surrounding areas are amazing for walking, running, cycling... and a real breath of fresh air! This area boasts some of Scotland’s best features: West Highland Way (Europe's most popular walk), Mugdock Country Park (inc cinema), Waterworks and many more. They have been on my doorstep all my life and I have never tired of their beauty which improves with every season.
My desire for the outdoors inspired this Air BNB project, offering every visitor the opportunity to see wonderful Milngavie and its surroundings from the heart of the village. If you need someone to show you around or advise what the town has to offer, I would be delighted to help. I simply love the outdoors, finding new trails and exploring.
I have been lucky enough to travel a lot of the world as my parents work on Cruise ships as musicians, and have done for over 40 years. I was very fortunate to see a lot of the world first hand with them. Norway probably tops my list of scenic trips, as the Fjords are simply breathtaking, but having visited China, Russia, Africa, North America and other parts of the world, everywhere offers something amazing.
As a musician, I play the sax and piano, and even thought about it as a profession, but decided other paths would be for me. Give me a good gig any day of the week, from Jazz, Classical, Rock, Pop or simply open mic nights.
Food and films play a huge part of my social calendar and believe it or not Milngavie has its own cinema, small in stature (50 seats), but fun to visit in Mugdock Country Park. I love war, action and non-fiction films if possible. As for food, yes please, and I am not fussy, I’ll try anything (apart from Ribena and Chocolate Orange). We are very lucky for good food in Milngavie, there is plenty to choose from.
I really want to make my guests welcome and enjoy visiting the Milngavie village.

Why they chose this property
'The Lomond'' is situated on the first floor. You will be welcomed by a traditional Scottish 'Close' gaining access to the front door from two flights of stairs, around 20 in total. The apartment has been refurbished with the traveller in mind, but also being careful to retain some of the original Victorian features.
The apartment has a modernised kitchen, including oven, hob, microwave and fridge freezer. There is also a dining table in the bay window for four people to enjoy a home cooked meal. If cooking at home isn't your thing, there are several restaurants within 100 metres for you to enjoy stunning Scottish food, or just a drink. Garvies restaurant is 15 metres from the apartment front door and currently offer any guests at West Highland Apartment 20% off their food bill.
The apartment has two double bedrooms offering a pair of single beds in both the master and second bedroom. Both bedrooms have wardrobe space and a hair dryer.
The main living room of the property offers a large 3 seat leather sofa and two Ikea leather chairs for the weary (or not so weary) traveller to relax. There is a 55” 4K TV with Virgin Fiber if you fancy a movie night streaming HD Netflix completely free of charge.

What makes this property unique
West Highland Apartments have been built for you, the traveller. However, it is absolutely the pride and joy of everyone who contributed to it, so please treat it with the utmost respect. We really want you to enjoy your stay in Milngavie, one of Scotland’s best towns, whether you make the most of the beautiful local walks, simply use it as a gateway to the City of Glasgow, or as a starting point for the Highlands, its location is just perfect and we want you to be warm and comfortable.
Milngavie Town Centre currently boasts twelve places to eat and enjoy a coffee: Costa, Fantoosh, Finsbay, Garvies, Café Alba, to name a few. It has over 120 businesses operating from the centre and its popularity is growing year on year. Milngavie is most recognised for being the start of the West Highland Way, but other walks, including the Clyde Costal Path, also meet in Milngavie.
Throughout the year many events take place in the town including the Highland Games, Cycling Events, Car Events, Milngavie Folk Club, so you will have plenty to choose from on your visit. Don’t forget the stunning Mugdock Country Park or Waterworks for a stroll and a coffee.
West Highland Apartments are situated 150 metres from Milngavie Train Station, which gives you access to Glasgow City Centre in 20 minutes or Edinburgh in just over an hour. You could even head off up the west coast, and enjoy a day at the seaside. The options are endless with this amazing location. The apartment is also located on the main bus routes including the 60 and 60A.
If walking is your thing then you will have Europe’s most popular walk right at your door: the West Highland Way, offering the stunning scenery of the West Coast, Loch Lomond and much more. It’s simply the best walk around. If you’d rather stay more local, Milngavie Waterworks offers a flat and pleasant walk, but equally stunning. Finally, Mugdock Country Park is truly beautiful in all seasons.
