About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom (Sleeps 2)

Agave Guesthouse with lots of rustic charm. A large 1-bedroom, southwestern territorial style cabin with covered wooden deck is perfect for exploring the Gila National Forest, Bear Creek Riparian area or taking advantage of private access to nearly 25 square miles of public State of NM and Federal lands offering unlimited hiking and horseback riding opportunities.

The Agave Guest House is the ideal haven from which to experience the charm of the old West, the glorious vistas afforded by the Gila National Forest, and the peace and quiet of a land still relatively untouched by progress.

Perfect for a weekend get-away, a romantic setting with someone special, or an extended vacation stay, this sizable, rustic rental cabin features most of the comforts of your own home. At 730 square feet, this is one of our largest cabin rentals. The oversized living room boasts a comfortable leather sofa and loveseat, hand made maple end and coffee tables, and a custom, repurposed "farm implement" lamp table. The large bedroom has a queen bed with luxury quality Egyptian cotton linens, a vintage farmhouse armoire, a dresser with a vintage mirror from the 1930's, and an antique desk. This cabin has a full bathroom, with shower and tub, and is comfortably equipped with radiant, in-floor heat. The kitchen, with an adjoining dinning area that seats 4, has new appliances including dishwasher, full-sized refrigerator, gas range/oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and BBQ grill. Enjoy coffee or cocktails while rocking-away on your covered deck under the glow of the well-aged ranch lanterns.

To make your stay even more enjoyable, the Agave Guest House includes air conditioning, a TV, DVD player, extensive DVD library, a landline telephone, and Wi-F/internet. FYI, because of our remote location, you won’t have cell service at your cabin. Internet is available for text, email, downloading movies, etc. Long distance calls can be made using a calling card.

If you are ready to experience the natural beauty of New Mexico, the Agave Guest House at New Mexico Cabin Rentals is an ideal home-base for your next adventure. Everywhere you turn, you’ll be amazed by the scenery and, if you pay attention, the wildlife. Roadrunners, wild turkeys, jackrabbits, and havelinas are pretty standard fare, but it also wouldn’t be uncommon to spot Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep, a mountain lion or two, or even the occasional bear off in the distance.

From each of our cabin rentals, you can participate in a wide-variety of activities, including hiking, birding, stargazing, and mountain biking. The trail riding is spectacular, and if you’d like to consider bringing your own horse, we’ve got self-care pens and a 300’ x 250’ enclosed arena. Or you can arrange for an equine rental if you let us know in advance. Call for more information about the horseback riding experiences that are available and the associated pricing.

Looking for more adventure? In a short 20 minute drive from New Mexico Cabin Rentals, you have unlimited access to nearly 3 million acres of public lands (New Mexico State Land, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service) where you can hunt, rock hound, and even explore Native ruins. Information on some of our best local attractions, art galleries, museums, restaurants, and activities such as Tour de Gila Bike Race, Silver City Blues Festival, are included in your cabin and can also be found on the ‘Area Attractions’ page of our website.

About Debbie and Alan Eggleston

In 1996 Debbie and Alan decided to live their dream, moved from Colorado (cold winters) and purchased a 30,000 acre working cattle ranch in Gila, NM (warm winters!). For 18 years they shared their ranching lifestyle with guests worldwide. Recently, they decided to slow their pace, down size a bit and do a little traveling. The result was Double E Ranch Guest House and Vacation Cabin Rentals.

Why Debbie and Alan Eggleston chose Gila

Hidden in a lush valley at the very end of the road (Double E Ranch Road), they found a paradise most folks only dream of: flowing creek, towering cottonwood and sycamore trees, abundant wildlife, spectacular vistas, perfect weather, peaceful, quiet.

What makes this cabin unique

With five homes, 3 cabins, corrals, barns spread across 360 acres, azure blue skies, star-filled nights, well -- is there any more I can say???

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks to you and Al for such a great experience in Gila. The dogs (Luke and Lilly) and I had a great time at your cabin, your property and hiking in the forest. The ranch proved me the escape from the city and work I needed. I'd love to return sometime in the future. Thanks again!

Peace, beauty, comfort, rest!

  • 5 of 5

First, thanks to Debbie, Allen, JayJay, and the horses for helping us feel right at home. I've never slept in a more comfortable bed, or on a more comfortable pair of couches. Whenever either of us sat down to read, the couches seemed to embrace us and put us to sleep. And that was just fine. As were the rockers on the porch, where we'd watch the birds and the trees and all the different shades of green against the impossibly blue sky. Thanks to evening rains in the high country, two of the creeks had enough water for minnows to exist, and the whole countryside was green. Although it was blazing hot during mid-day, the cabin's AC and ceiling fans kept us comfortable. And the stars, the milky way even, were breathtaking. Although the cabin is rustic, it had every convenience a person needs, and everything worked Even wifi. Visiting the horses was a daily treat, and on one visit I chanced to meet the owner's 9-yr old grandsons who were out walking dogs. I've never met such socially sophisticated and mannerly kids. The world needs more people like these. Except for these chance meetings, nobody bothered us, no overly solicitous visits from owners, and no chummy visits from kids or dogs. Just peace. I could've stayed there forever. But you DO want to do your shopping before you settle in! Although Silver City is only 25-27 miles away, that's a drive we didn't want to have to make until it was departure time. So THANK YOU to the Egglestons for sharing your joy and for giving such good instructions!!!

Quiet and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

What a pleasant stay, if only for two nights. We kept wondering what was wrong. All we could hear was the sound of the leaves rustling and the birds chirping. NO CITY NOISE!

The cabin had everything we needed. Rustic, just the way I like it.

Watching the staff working the horses in the corral was an added attraction.

You can hike up the mountain (fairly steep and rocky) or hike the roads for miles of pretty rolling countryside.

Tammy's Cafe in Cliff is a local place with pretty good food and local flavor.

Thanks to everyone for a great stay.

Hi to the dogs,

Nice Old Rustic Cabin

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed the rustic western charm of the cabin. It is cozy and comfortable, especially the bed, which is very important to me! The views are beautiful and we enjoyed a short hike, and also visiting the horses.

Thanks Debbie and Allen for a wonderful stay!

Laid back and surrounded by nature. Beautiful scenery and comfortable accommodations.

  • 5 of 5

Great for getting away from everything and enjoying nature. Dogs must be on leashes, no cell phone service but does have wifi, could use a ramp for wheel chair accessibility, but overall we thouroughly enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing stay. No one and I mean no one will bother you! Just horses, peacock, and the rest of nature. Thumbs up to Allen and Debbie for a great get away place in the middle of the Gila Wilderness! Plan to do it again.

Great accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Rio Lobo cabin. Very spacious and comfortable. The ranch is secluded but easy to get to. A day trip to the Avila Cat Walks was just what the doctor ordered. We highly recommend the Double H Ranch!!!
