Other things to note
This apartment is a lovely place to be whatever the season and is the perfect base for those who are seeking to combine a number of different elements into their holiday.
Güejar is a great base for a huge variety of activities - mountain biking, walks of all levels, climbing, canoeing, rafting, fishing, paragliding, horse-riding, winter skiing and summer fiestas. And all of this is only 20 mins from Granada - a great place to wander the tree-lined plazas, sample the tapas, listen to real flamenco and simply enjoy the traditional Spanish ambience of this lovely city.
This is also a great place to relax - whether topping up your tan on the sunny terrace, or simply watching the sun set behind the mountain while you enjoy a long tall glass of something.
The little village of Güejar Sierra, with its cobbled streets and flower draped balconies is something of an undiscovered gem. This is where the local Granadinos come to enjoy the best of all that the Sierra Nevada can offer.
The location is also only half an hour from the ski resort, and the pretty coves of the Costa Tropical are within easy reach (45 mins) - with some great 'chiringuitas' where you can eat fresh fish right on the beach.
The traditional white village of Guejar Sierra itself has great tapas bars, restaurants, local shops, pharmacy, bank and two lovely pools in summer. Our friendly keyholders are happy to give advice and can help organize chef services, tapas tours, hiking, biking, horse-riding, canoeing, treasure hunts for children and babysitting.
Guejar Sierra is also famous for its cherries - so just ask our keyholders if you wish to sample some local, organic, cherry jam!
Sierra Nevada ski resort:
The apartment is ideally placed for skiing at Pradollano (Sol y Nieve Ski Resort) in the Sierra Nevada. The Sierra Nevada boasts the highest downhill runs in Europe as well as being the most southerly - so it often enjoys better snow than the Alps. The resort - with its superb services and installations was built for the Winter Olympics and offers its visitors a wide range of facilities and a ski terrain to suit skiers & boarders of all standards. There are 70km of ski runs, 45 pistes and 300 snow machines guaranteeing snow on the slopes. There is also night skiing by floodlight! As one of Europe's highest resorts it has a surprisingly long season and traditionally opens at the end of November running through to the end of April or even into the first week of May. The resort is so far south that the climate is superb for brushing up on your tan and on clear days there are views of Africa from the top!
LARGER GROUPS
For larger groups of friends wishing to travel together - we can rent the apartment together with the small 1 bedroomed apartment next door, or with a choice of 2 bedroomed apartments in the same building.

About Denise
I know the region intimately - and remain as enthusiastic about it today as the first time I visited. I genuinely enjoy sharing that knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors and am happy to answer questions and offer local tips - so please feel free to ask. It is important to me that visitors enjoy their stay. I believe in listening to what customers want and I always strive to offer the best combination of high standards and good value. No matter whether your tastes run to skiing Spain's most southerly ski resort, hiking or biking in the Sierras, discovering the local culture and cuisine, exploring historic Granada, improving your Spanish, learning a new skill such as flamenco dancing, or simply enjoying lunch by a lovely pool – I am happy to advise and help you to make the most of your stay. Whatever holiday experience you wish to enjoy in Granada – please get in touch.
Why Denise chose Güéjar Sierra
I chose this apartment because of its glorious views and natural surroundings; its position in the spectacularly situated white village of Guejar Sierra (with some truly great tapas bars and restaurants); and its convenience for the historic city of Granada, the world famous Alhambra Palace (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and the Sierra Nevada ski resort. El Ladero Grande is a lovely place to be whatever the season and is the perfect base for those who are seeking to combine a number of different elements into their holiday. Güejar is a great base for a huge variety of activities - mountain biking, walks of all levels, climbing, canoeing, rafting, fishing, paragliding, horse-riding, winter skiing and summer fiestas. And all of this is only 20 mins from Granada - a great place to wander the tree-lined plazas, sample the tapas, listen to real flamenco and simply enjoy the traditional Spanish ambiance of this lovely city.
What makes this Apartment unique
In an area of knock-out views - the view from the sun terrace and living room of this property still manage to stand out from the crowd! I bought the property off-plan, but even half-finished and unplastered, I fell in love with it the moment I first stepped into the huge, sunlit space of the living room with the panoramic vista of the mountains sweeping around it. There were initially only the French doors and the windows at the front - but realising that the apartment was situated on the corner of the building, I asked the developer to add the side windows and doors to really bring the mountains into the apartment. We also added central heating and air conditioning to the original plans, to ensure that the apartment is comfortable and a great place to be in any season. Above all, this is a place to relax. It can provide a romantic getaway for couples and has been the venue for more than one honeymoon. But it's great for families too - large enough for teenagers to enjoy their own space, and simple, safe and practical enough for toddlers. Its a fantastic base for going out and exploring Granada or enjoying a day on the mountain - and its also a great place for staying in and topping up your tan on the sunny terrace, or simply watching the sun set behind the mountain while you enjoy a long tall glass of something. The little village of Güejar Sierra, with its cobbled streets and flower draped balconies is something of an undiscovered gem - a well kept Spanish secret. This is where the local Granadinos come to enjoy the best of all that the Sierra Nevada can offer.

Notes
- In summer, restaurants open up terraces, pools & riverside dining areas & there are no shortages of places to dine & enjoy Guejar's stunning views, or relax & have a drink & a swim. Some of these pools have lovely settings or are in natural mountain pools or rivers. We are happy to answer all questions & put you in touch with local activities if you wish. For those looking for an active holiday, please ask for details of local mountain bike hire or walking guides. Kayaks can also be hired on the lake in season. A Tapas Tour of Granada with with Gayle Mackie (author of '100 Best Tapas Bars in Granada') can also be arranged - a great way to start your holiday by discovering the best places to enjoy a pleasant drink in a great atmosphere & eat for free like the locals do. For winter sports enthusiasts we can provide details of ski instructors & ski hire, etc., in the resort and pre-book ski passes. Our personable & friendly local chef is available on request.

Great little apartment, excellent value for nearby skiing
Everything we were looking for
We had a beautiful view in a charming location
So glad to hear that Barry and Coleen enjoyed their stay. The water levels in the reservoir do fluctuate and are unusually low this year (not good for Southern Spain).
`Guejar Sierra'
Thank you for your lovely review. It was fiesta week when you stayed which, while highly atmospheric and fun, does mean that there is less parking outside than usual. The garage is tight for People Movers, although guests do seem to manage it. For the reference of others, the dimensions of the door are –
2.35m H (about 7’8”)
3.00m W (about 9’8”)
As this guest mentions, it is a fairly tight turn in - but worth the effort for the superb views that the position of the property offers. See picture 4 in our gallery for a shot of the views from our living room and terrace and imagine opening the curtains to reveal that every morning!
Needs Serious Overhaul and Deep Clean
We want everyone to enjoy their stay and ask guests to inform us of any issues at the time, so that we can rectify them immediately. My personal contact numbers are on the paperwork for that reason.
In response -
1. Glad the guest enjoyed the "fabulous area...great village...fantastic bus service", and understood that narrow streets are typical in a Spanish village (though some visitors manage with a People Mover).
2. Wine and tapas. Hands up! The guest and her husband arrived earlier than expected (having failed to update Rosie as requested). In rushing to ensure they were not kept waiting, Rosie forgot to take wine and tapas out of the store cupboard. First time ever! Had the guest told us, we would have made amends. We are also happy to provide tea, coffee, breakfast things - by prior arrangement - as is clear in the booking info.
3. We DO put heating on before guests arrive. As these guests were early, it had no chance to warm up. One living room heater is set at 21. The guests left the other on 27. Rosie found it hot!
4. Front balcony doors – admittedly fiddly but, to put this into context, no-one else has had a problem! Immediately sorted - if we had been called. Now re-checked.
5. Serious overhaul? Please refer to our many other reviews!! No space for exhaustive list of repairs and renewals, but soft furnishings DO undergo regular dry cleaning and replacement.
6. Chipped plates are routinely discarded. There ARE plenty spare. The guest did NOT have to dine from chipped ones! We do not charge guests a security deposit and not everyone replaces items that they break.
7. Cleanliness. I stand by Rosie on this point, as her conscientiousness has been attested to many times.
8. Pet hairs in the washing machine? We have not had a doggy visitor for over a year and the guest’s own husband commented that his clothes came out of the washing machine fine.
9. ONE bulb in the kitchen (out of 3) went out – and was replaced.
10. It is no longer possible to pick up UK TV Channels via Eurosat. We provide alternatives – Chromecast, DVD selection and a ‘proxy server’ for UK TV & Netflix. All working when Rosie demonstrated. However, in recognition of the fact that it can be fiddly for the non-technical, we are investing in yet another system.
The guest does not mention the discount she received. She does say that, having looked at our long list of 4 and 5 star reviews, she wonders if she was in the right apartment. Frankly, I wonder that too.
Kindness.
So glad that you enjoyed your stay. I'm not sure what additional cooking equipment was needed - but we do take feedback seriously, so we will now do an audit to check that we still have everything that you would expect to find. While this doesn't include large, items such as food mixers, this is not really a requirement for most people on holiday and our local chef (who can be hired to cook for you in-situ) has produced some great meals from there! As you were staying with us over Christmas and naturally wanted to cook Christmas dinner, Rosie did check to ensure that we had what you needed and I know that she bought additional roasting pans. I do wish you had asked us at the time if you required anything else, as it would not have been a problem and Rosie would have been very happy to provide it, or lend it. Glad to hear that you made the most of the area though and we hope to see you back soon!
Location
Traditional white mountain village with cobbled streets in a stunning location 20 min. East of historic Granada (Alhambra Palace) and 20 min. from the Sierra Nevada ski resort (Pradollano). Beautiful views abound everywhere & many local restaurants traditionally open up swimming pools in the summer or lakeside/riverside dining terraces overlooking the Rio Genil or the blue waters of the Canales Reservoir. Great family activity location, walks begin from the doorstep and there are also opportunities for mountain-biking, horse-riding, climbing, canoeing, paragliding. This is also a great base from which to explore historic Granada, with its beautiful Moorish buildings, Alhambra Palace & fascinating Moroccan bazaar. Costa Tropical Beaches - 45 min. Guadix caves - 35 min. Water Park - 20 min. Also great romantic getaway for couples with excellent restaurants, or just a place to relax, enjoy the welcoming Spanish atmosphere & while the day away with free tapas. Other Activities: Sierra Nevada Ski Resort - 20 min., Alhambra Palace - 20 mins, Family Water Park at Cenes - 20 min. Golf: There are now three golf courses in Granada and more within reasonable driving distance such as the one at Motril on the Costa Tropical 9 holes). The 18 hole Granada Club de Golf is signposted from Armilla. No reservations necessary. Clubs can be hired and if you play in the morning, the cost for 18 holes is approximately 20 Euro (more on Sundays and festivals). Ski: Skiing is available at the Sierra Nevada ski resort. At over 9000 ft it is one of the highest resorts in Europe and can be reached from Guejar Sierra within 20 min. An international ski school is available on site. There are 70km of ski runs, 45 pistes (with more than enough variety to suit all levels), 300 snow machines and views of Africa from the top. This is the most southerly ski resort in Europe and, while smaller than some of the other major European resorts, the facilities are considered top rate and it has therefore hosted numerous national and international ski events. With great family facilities on offer as well, Sierra Nevada defies many concepts associated with skiing. Located at barely a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean coast, it has practically guaranteed sunshine, the best spring snow conditions in Europe and is still reasonably priced compared to many of its European counterparts.
