We thoroughly enjoy our stay. The cottage is really well appointed with everything needed for a comfortable, relaxing time.pet and human friendly, thank you Richard, a perfect host.
Friendly check in, great location with a beautiful apartment. It was easy to access Tobermory and surrounding sites. Walk to the beach and enjoy the property!
We loved the views of the castle and the Sound of Mull. The cottage had everything we needed, it was warm and comfy and was perfectly located for exploring the island.
Stylish, comfortable and cosy, a pleasure to wake up in and a delight to return to. We came in search of “I know where I’m going” and found “I know where I’m saying”- next time!
A fantastic property in a stunning location. Great views from the living area & wildlife in abundance. Loved the proximity to the beach for morning & evening walks with our black Labrador.
We absolutely loved this cottage, peaceful location with stunning views of a 13th Century castle with hens, deer and bird life in your 'front garden'. Very clean and wonderful walks to the loch through woodland. Aldo great location to reach other parts of this wonderful isle of Mull. Richard and Kirsty are also are brilliant hosts. We're planning a return next year.
Absolutely brilliant cottage has everything you need for home away from home. Owners. Very hospitable and helpful and Friendly. The cottage is centrally located on the island which makes everywhere accessible. Lovely little beach just a 100 metres or so from the cottage ideal for early morning/ evening visit to end the day great for paddle boarding ( my first go). Thoroughly recommend staying there.

Outstanding Accommodation
A genuinely amazing stay. Brilliant space. Comfortable and clean with absolutely everything you would need. Extremely friendly hosts and what a location! On the coastline and backing onto castle ruins. Don't mind if I do! Genuinely hope we get back here.
The property is a delight. It’s cosy clean and warm.
Not many places offer a view of an ancient castle.
Richard shows huge interest in how guests recycle. The compost bin meant all our food waste doesn’t go to land fill. It’s our second time staying in Castle Cottage and would not hesitate to recommend this gem of a place to stay.
We received a warm welcome from our hosts who went out of their way to be helpful and informative. Castle cottage is a real gem. It is set in a lovely position overlooking the ruins of Aros castle and the Sound of Mull. The views of these from the first floor living room are wonderful and quite mesmerising.
The cottage is warm and cosy, exceptionally clean and has the advantage of a fully equipped kitchen which was perfect. Extra touches of fresh flowers and lovely art work made it feel like a home from home. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
This was such a lovely holiday, it way exceeded our expectations! The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, warm and cosy and very tastefully decorated. All the kitchen utensils one might need were provided, there were two bathrooms and the beds were very comfortable as well.
And then, I don't think you can surpass the location: stunning views over the castle ruins and the bay!
Richard and his wife gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel at home straight away.
This is a definite recommendation for everyone who wants to enjoy this beautiful and diverse island, looking for a cosy and relaxing place to stay.
This great cottage is perfectly situated a short walk from the beach right in the middle of the east coast of Mull, about 20 mins drive from the Craignure ferry and near to the lovely village of Salen, which is a few mins drive away or walkable in about 40 mins along the estuary and then the beautiful coastal road (keeping a look out for various seabirds, seals and maybe an otter on the way!). We had a really enjoyable week here, and it was a great base from which to explore the island and all of the amazing wildlife and landscape it has to offer. The hosts went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and we could not recommend this place highly enough. The views of the castle / sea beyond, the free ranging hens outside, the frequent short walks to the coast all particular highlights. We never normally go back to the same place twice, but this is likely to be a rare exception!
Castle cottage is well located for a stay on Mull. Perfect for walking holidays with local routes from the front door. Local restaurants/hotels serving high quality local caught shell fish and wet fish or buy it yourself at the local retailer & have a night in.
Trips to Iona is a must & also Calgary Bay. The Old Byre heritage centre just south of Dervaig is a must visit to get to know all about Mull & its history, cracking tea shop & a friendly welcome too.
You will find the location of castle cottage very relaxing & great for sea swimming, only 300 meters away. Views arnt all that bad.
If you are into star gazing its very dark sky with zero light pollution. And the White tailed sea eagles are common to the area along with other raptors.
So Castle cottage what ever you want from a holiday it has it all.
We returned to Castle cottage in July 2022 after a great week here in 2021. The cottage was again homely, clean and comfortable in a wonderful location. The area is very peaceful with a path down to the beach and the view of Aros Castle ruins makes it extra special. The lovely village of Salen is nearby and very handy and Tobermory is 15-20 minutes drive away. A great base for our holiday on Mull and we hope to be back!
An excellent property to stay in if you want a peaceful stay. Situated about 25 mins from the ferry and 20 minutes in the other direction to Tobamory. Cottage was spotless and fully kitted out if you wanted to cook for yourselves.
This is a fabulous little cottage with stunning views directly onto Aros Castle and the sea beyond. The cottage is charming with two lovely ground floor bedrooms and a really fantastic upstairs living room kitchen dining room with views to die for.
The location is just perfect, half a minutes walk to Aros Castle and 2 minutes walk down to the beach. No traffic as it is at the end of the lane, chickens free ranging around the property. If it is peace, beauty and tranquility you are looking for then this place is perfect. Location is great to as midway between Craignure and Tobermory. Richard and his family were very welcoming and gave us lots of ideas and information of places to see and to eat. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. We shall be back!
The cottage was delightful, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location was perfect, located virtually in the centre of Mull with easy access to all of the island. During our stay on Mull we saw all of “the big four”, golden and white tailed eagles, otter and red dear a truly amazing holiday.
The property is in a lovely quiet location with lovely views and a beautiful beach nearby.
The property is comfortable, spacious, exceptionally well equipped with books, WiFi and a sound system. The sitting room is upstairs overlooking the castle ruins, bay and hills so as the light changes throughout the day the colours create a wonderful hue to calm the soul and relax your spirit.
Lovely cottage, with a bathroom and shower room and well-equipped kitchen. Right next to ruined castle with a lovely view south over the mouth of the river. Host easy to contact and everything clean and working: large screen TV if you can tear yourself away from the view.
Fantastic location close to the town of Salen but felt very secluded with easy access to a beautiful small beach which was great for paddling, watching the wildlife, rock pooling or just relaxing and enjoying the amazing location and views. For us the location was an ideal base for exploring other parts of the island. We very much enjoyed our week in the cottage which had a lovely new of the Aros Castle ruins and was more than spacious enough for the three of us. Two bathrooms very handy! Our son read as many of the kids books from the library as he could! We loved the cottage and location and definitely hope to return.
