About the property

Viia Guzel is in a select location, having a very large private pool

Villa Guzel accommodates six people comfortably in three large bedrooms all en suite with balconies and wonderful views over Kalkan Bay .The delightful villa is in a select position on a peaceful hillside, with wonderful views over the picturesque, sophisticated resort of Kalkan.

The villa has been built to an extremely high standard with antique marbled floors, featuring limestone walls internally and spiral staircases to the main bedrooms.

The private fresh water swimming pool is larger than normal and is serviced daily. the terrace is spacious and well equipped with six sun loungers and tabling to seat eight, for meals to be enjoyed in the shade under the pergola. For those who wish to sit in the shade there is the small shaded terrace area adjacent the main BBQ

The villa is tastefully furnished and decorated, with air conditioning to provide comfort throughout the villa. The spacious open plan lounge features a satellite TV ( WiFi Internet ) a stone fireplace and French door which opens onto the large terrace and private swimming pool.

Kalkan, described as Turkeys best kept secret, is a small, sophisticated resort set on the Turkish Mediterranean Riviera. The town nestles on the foot of the Taurus mountains and was once a small fishing village, it is now a charming holiday resort consisting of cobbled streets, housing interesting shops selling jewellery, carpets and local goods. One can enjoy bartering with the shopkeepers and their hospitality offering of apple tea.

Kalkan is one of the most unspoilt resorts on the Mediterranean coast. Retaining the charm and character of a Turkish fishing village, with winding cobbled streets, lined with local craft, antique and clothes shops. There is an air of relaxed sophistication reflected in the hospitality, fabulous harbour side and rooftop restaurants offering the highest quality traditional cuisine, which is sure to delight even the most discerning palette.

Kalkan comes alive at night, you can set your own pace - stroll through the bustling colourful streets.

General: Hire a car or join a local excursion to visit one of the many historical ancient sites such as Patara, Xanthos, Tios, a trip to the Taurus mountains or the amazing Saklikent Gorge.

Enjoy mountain walks, climbing, trekking, caving and parascending, have a relaxing Turkish bath or massage to ease away the aches and pains.

Transport

A car is not necessary.

Taxis are cheap and readily available to and from the villa. Whilst in Kalkan hire a car from approximately £30 a day. Dolmus buses operate between Kalkan and local beaches and towns. Local excursions are available to many interesting places and historic sites.

The Area: Kalkan has a small pebble beach located at the very end of the harbour.

There are several ‘Beach Clubs’ these are platforms which are built into the sea. They provide sun beds for a small charge and have bar and restaurant. They are located at :

Kalamar Beach Club (this has water sports including ringo’s, banana’s, water skiing, jet ski’s, snorkelling etc. You can ring for a free transfer, but have to pay for sun beds)

Yacht Beach Club, located at the harbour

Likya, Mahal and Patara Beach Clubs are a water taxi ride away from the harbour.

Hire a skippered boat for the day from the harbour (approximately £18 a head including lunch). For a 4 to 12 berth we recommend Sunset being very enjoyabler.

Patara Beach

The Sunday Times recently described this as one of the top 10 unspoilt beaches in Europe.

You can easily get there by dolmus , taxi or car.

Anne & I are retired. We are very fortuanate that we have a lovely family and are in good health. We enjoy life, particularly good food & wine & have enjoyed seening a lot of the world.

Mr Leonard Bennett purchased this villa in 2003

Why Mr Leonard Bennett chose World

We fell in love with Kalkan & on our first visit bought Villa Guzel. We were very impressed with design & particularly the cream sandstone stonework both internally & extrenally. Anne loves swimming therefore was delighted with the large pool. Guests agree the villa has a warm welcoming feel about it and find the location perfect. .

What makes this villa unique

Good Location. A select site with seven luxury & individual designed villas, probably the best in Kalkan. Very large pool that has the added feature of a number of steps that children enjoy playing on. Shaded pergola for meals. Shaded seating area with BBQ. Another BBQ on the main balcony where you can enjoy an evening drink & views over Kalkan & the Bay.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Well what can I say Len and his wife made our booking seemless and the Villa is fantastic. Location is a short walk to the town but far enough away to be peaceful. Kalkan is just amazing. So if you are looking for a more up market holiday this is the place to be.

My wife and I enjoyed it so much last time that we will be going out again this year.

Highly recommended.

Thanks again for a great stay.

Wonderful villa and superb view

  • 5 of 5

This was our sixth visit to beautiful Kalkan. Villa Guzel certainly did not disappoint, this lovely villa in a perfect location, gave you breathtaking views of Kalkan town. The walk into town was enjoyable and not as steep as some areas, although taxis are always available if you are feeling lazy! The villa itself had a beautiful pool and terrace, two bbq and dining areas, and also a relaxing sofa area for chilling. The upstairs bbq on the bedroom balcony was great for evening dining with the wonderful backdrop of the town at night with all its lights. The inside of the villa had everything you needed and all the bedrooms were very spacious. The cleaning staff visited daily to tidy and make the beds, which was a real treat, and the pool man delivered us fresh warm bread every morning.. What more could you ask for! The restaurants and bars of Kalkan are unique and very friendly, and most are worth a visit, as are the shops and the Thursday market. The boat trips from the picturesque harbour are also a must. Just fabulous. This year we went on Ali's Dream Boat, first class food and service. Looking forward to next year and hopefully return visit to Villa Guzel. Thank you Len and Anne.

A hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic villa in the perfect location. The property was cleaned on a daily basis as was the pool and garden area. Communication with the owner and local manager was first class and we would certainly return and recommend to family and friends. Spoilt for choice in terms of restaurants and bars, our favourite being the Olive Garden.

We were recommended the boat trip organised by Sunset Boats and this was the highlight of the holiday thanks to Captain Yelcinn and first mate Ali.

Lovely Villa in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

We booked this Villa as friends of ours have been visiting over the last 10 years

and on their recommendation we thought we would try it out and it did not disappoint. The Villa is exactly the same as the picture and the layout and facilities are all exactly as described. The location is high up overlooking Kalkan and it is a 15 minute walk into the town. The views of the mountains and sea are very impressive, and the property is well looked after with cleaners coming in every day to make beds and tidy up, which is a treat, and the pool man came by every morning whilst we were sleeping to water the plants and clean around the pool and also came to check all was OK, later in the day. The water sports activities from Aristos at Indigo Beach Club were great . Try out Cinar Restaurant above Mini Bar ( which is also good ) and the Cocktail Bar with the fancy chairs on the front which is great for people watching. I would have no hesitation in recommending this Villa and Kalkan . TheTurkish people and place are great and the food is varied and excellent.. Sometimes it is a bit of a step into the unknown when you book a Villa but you will have no problems and the owners Len and Anne are fab and nothing is too much trouble. Happy Holidays!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Villa Güzel looked good on the web site and it more than lived up to expectations. What a peaceful location with such lovely views over Kalkan. We liked the nice shaded seated area for reading and sitting under the pergola eating our meals. The pool was very large and our children loved playing on the pool steps. The lounge was very comfortable and the satellite TV great . The WiFi reception was good. We found the Guest Book very useful and the Visitors Book helpful regarding recommended restaurants and particularly the Sunset boat trip which was fantastic. The bedrooms were large light and airy having their own balconies where we often sat and enjoyed a coffee and the views over Kalkan. The upstairs master double had a huge balcony with barbecue and table for six with lovely views over Kalkan .We enjoyed eating there one evening and seeing Kalkan night lights and the sunset but we used the terrace barbecue more frequently. Hakan was helpful and his cleaners and pool man were very likeable and good. It’s about a twelve minute steep downhill walk into Kalkan, we preferred to have a taxi back as they only cost about 15 lira. There were many excellent restaurants and we found the food exceptionally good and particularly enjoyed the Turkish Angora wine . In all we had a lovely holiday in Kalkan at Villa Guzel and would certainly recommend it. Our family are looking forward to returning next year.

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved villa guzel and Kalkan. The views from the villa are fabulous and the two balconies both look over the mountains and harbour.

Villa is a short walk into old town Kalkan and the harbour, but taxis are also very cheap so we used them when feeling lazy!

The villa is well managed locally with regular cleaning. We loved our daily visit to check everything was ok - it always was.

The pool is a great size and nice a cool (June time). Lots of facilities in the villa and found the owners wonderful to deal with - they made everything so easy and even emailed us whilst we were there to check we were having fun.

Kalkan itself is beautiful. Lots of bars and restaurants - we are in love and already planning a return visit next year.

Thanks again Anne and Len - we'll definitely be back!

Patara Beach,

18 kilometre-long strip of sand, bordered on its ends by mountains, should not be missed with its gorgeous landscape and great swimming. It is a national park and home to many birds, also the breeding ground of the endangered Loggerhead turtle, and is acknowledged as one of the best beaches in Turkey. The car entrance fee is £3 approx. but lasts for one week. The beaches facilities offer the hire of sun beds and shades. a café provides good snacks and toilets are provided The protected historical site is well worth a visit.

Kaputas, seven Kilometres from Kalkan, along the most beautiful coastal road to Kas is the most striking gorge. Plaques on the bridge commemorate the deaths of the workers killed during the road construction. Accessible by 120 very steep steps nestles the most perfect sandy shingle cove and beach. Close by the Blue Cove is marked by a road sign, but simply look for a small gathering of yachts admiring the spectacle.

Kas a twenty seven kilometre drive from Kalkan along the wonderful coastal road is a pleasant working town surrounded on three sides by the mountains, life centres around the harbour and town square with the usual tea houses, bars, restaurants and shops. Shops on the main street serve the local community, however the charm still remains and it is a pleasure to wander the cobbled streets checking the shops selling souvenirs, handicrafts, leather goods clothing and the silver and gold items. Little is left of the ancient Antiphellus, which Kas was named in the fourth century BC, however the well preserved and restored Lycian theatre and the several tombs hewn out of the sheer mountain are illuminated at night. In the town is the a Lycian Sarcophagus, the Monument Tomb.

Local harbour boatmen will take you to fascinating bays and coves where the swimming and diving is excellent in the clear water or to admire the luxury villas on the peninsular.

A popular boat tour from Kas is to the Kalekoy, the sunken city, submerged in the Mediterranean Sea and Ucagis an idyllic setting on a bay amid islands and having a number of Lycian tombs and a sarcophagi the shape of a house.

Saklikent Gorge, 18 kilometres long and cut deep into the Akdalglar mountains, is the deepest in Turkey. It is best visited on a late hot summers day, as the water is not quite as cold and deep, making the paddle more enjoyable. Have a beer, snack or freshly caught trout at the waterside raft restaurants and bars, decked out with Turkish rugs and cushions, and shaded by fig trees. An adventure for the young and old.

Xanthos the ancient city, the grandest capital of Lycia, has some excellent ruins and is only a 30 minute drive from Kalkan. It stands atop an elevated area within the Xanthos valley with the Xanthos River closely under the city's west side. From this elevation one receives supreme view of the valley surrounded by the spectacular Taurus Mountains.

The Pillar Tombs & The Xanthian Obelisk

The history of Xanthos is quite violent. The Xanthosians twice demonstrated the fierce independence of the Lycian people when they chose to commit mass suicide rather than submit to invading forces. The Xanthosian men set fire to their women, children, slaves and treasure upon the acropolis before making their final doomed attack upon the invading Persians. Xanthos was later repopulated but the same gruesome story repeated itself in 42 BC when Brutus attacked the city during the Roman civil wars in order to recruit troops and raise money. Brutus was shocked bt the Lycians' suicide and offered his soldiers a reward for each Xanthosian saved. Only 150 citizens were rescued. Xanthos is about a 30 minute drive from Kalkan and well signed posted. The site of the Lycian capital city and has been excavated by the French from 1954. It contains a good example of an amphitheatre and mosaics. It is best to arrive here about 4 pm as the site is open until 7pm and most visitors have left, it is cooler at this time. There is a shaded area to sit where you can buy drinks, and use the loos. From here you can take approximately a 30 minute drive to reach the mountain village of Islamlar where there are several good restaurants which serve trout that is farmed in the area.
