About philomena

I was born hear and my first language was Irish I Came from a large family of 8 kids. I became a nurse where I traveled to England for work in my younger days but my heart never left home, I returned where myself and my husband Alec reared our family.

Why philomena chose Dingle

Alec and I build the house as we wanted to share this piece of Heaven with our guests . Never have i grown tired of the view or even seen a place to equal the place that i call home.

Within a few minutes walk you are on the magical beach of clogher which you see from the cottage or Cuis Na Naon where generations of my family have fished from to rear there big family.

What makes this cottage unique

The view/Peace/Tranquility/Walks or Tracks and simple life... come and see for yourself!!

The perfect location while exploring the beautiful sights of Ireland.

At the Stone Cottage on the Dingle Peninsula, we experienced the magic of late sunsets and lingering twilight...the perfect way to end our days of exploring this beautiful area of Ireland. Stone Cottage has it all -- beautiful sweeping views, the perfect location, easy access to the town of Dingle, and the genuine Irish cottage ambience. The house overlooks Sybil Head and Clogher beach. Each morning we had our coffee on the terrace while watching the waves crash on the cliffs and sheep graze in the pastures. We enjoyed walking through the pastures to the cliffs and Clogher beach – private access to a priceless view! The home has four very comfortable bedrooms, each with its own bath. The master bedroom is spacious with a separate sitting area. The best part of the master is two sets of large windows overlooking the sea and cliffs. While laying in bed we could watch the sunset over the ocean. The master bath has a clawfoot tub and each bathroom has towel warmers. We were impressed with how clean the house was; it was immaculate. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook our meals at home (food processor, steamer, etc.). Having a washer and dryer was very convenient. The working fireplace is made for cozy evenings, and our host Sharon provided us with wood and helped us build the fire. Overall, the house was comfortable, cozy, and hard to leave. We spent a week at the Stone Cottage and wished we had stayed longer! There is so much to do on Dingle. Directly from the house there are several beautiful walks. Exploring around the house was a delight! We wandered down back roads to find beautiful villages, beaches, and cliff walks. There are also many archeological sites close by. The Beehive huts along Slea Head Drive date from 2,000 B.C. are a must see, so is Kirkmander Church and Galarus Oratory. There is a cafe just two minutes down the road on foot, the town of Ballyferriter is five minutes down the road by car, and the town of Dingle is less than 15 minutes away by car. Dingle town is absolutely adorable. We had several amazing meals in town, saw traditional live music, and shopped at the local artisan stores. Overall, Stone Cottage was the perfect home base for our explorations on the Dingle Peninsula which we felt was the most beautiful area in all of Ireland!

Heaven on Earth!!

  • 5 of 5

I was tempted to write a sour review only to keep the place to ourselves, but truth is, we all need to share the beauty and wonderment of God's grace which can be found sitting in living room overlooking Clogher Beach and the three sisters. The hikes are magnificent and Dingle is not too far off! Philomena is the caretaker from heaven. She is also guardian angel of the roads there..sweet talk her and you may get ride to Dingle and Back!!

We enjoyed a relaxing time at the stone cottage, taking in the changing views and enjoying the peacefulness of the area. The house had all the little essential things that one often would forget to bring or take for granted at home.

We had an Irish breakfast every morning, a little exploring by day and a turf fire by night. We watched Ryan’s Daughter on the DVD player and then later explored some of the areas in the film like around the house and further afield like Inch beach. We discovered lots of little beaches and quite a few cosy pubs. The walk near Clogher beach that loops around the head was enjoyable and quite manageable. The walk in the opposite direction was a little more rugged, but good fun all the same. It was reassuring to know that if we needed anything Phil, Sharon and Alec were very approachable and close by. Thank you for such a lovely stay.

A home away from home with incredible views

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect. The house, the location, the views, our hostess. My husband and I stayed with my two boys (4 and 3 years old). They enjoyed every minute of it. We loved the views, walking around the property, enjoyed the fire at night with a glass of wine, our little trips around the area, Dingle, the pubs at Ballyferriter... It is a beautiful property with beautiful views and beautiful people. Everything was clean and was working perfectly well. We would have stayed there longer if we could!! I am sure that someday we will go back to the Stone House. Our hostess was so nice and friendly. We didn't spend much time together, but enough to keep her in our heart forever. I will always remember those days we spent at the Stone House as one of the best memories in my life. I would recommend anybody to take some days off and stay there. You will never regret it. We'll be back some day!!! <3

Bright, comfortable house in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

Staying at the stone house was the best part of our Ireland trip. The house and setting exceeded expectations, and we were made to feel very welcome. We liked being apart from but close enough to Dingle Town, and enjoyed the nearby village pub and pottery gallery/bakery in Baile an Fheirtearaigh.
