Ask a questionAbout The Miller Family
Doc Dan and Doc Mary began their lifelong commitment to Amish Country in 1967 when Daniel Miller accepted a call to come back and open a doctor's office in Walnut Creek. Raising four children and being the only physician for miles meant that life wasn't exactly relaxing for the Miller family. But a caring community and a peaceful setting helped. Building their first house "back in the woods" just below the Manor where their son and family still live, the Miller children could camp and play endlessly in the woods and creek. The children grew...and soon a tennis court with basketball hoops was added to keep the high school kids busy. But motorbikes and other fun things aside, Cindy, Bart, Eric and Heidi all remember a childhood both of fun AND work, like mending fences, mowing, hours of music lessons and other daily chores. By 1991, all of the children had moved from home with families of their own. Becoming involved with the Walnut Creek Der Dutchman restaurant and working with the company only deepened Dan and Mary's sense of gratitude and commitment to the area's business community, church, the Amish community and visitors who come to enjoy such a unique area. After selling some of the successful family businesses that were started by Mary's parents, the "house on the hill", now known as Miller Manor, was built in 1999, fulfilling a dream to live a still-busy retirement in the sunshine and breezes, to wake up everyday to a beautiful view, and to host family and friends when they all come home. Daniel and Mary were given an opportunity to relocate to Walnut Hills Retirement Community in 2015, where they continue to reside today. They continue to walk over 3 miles each morning and are active still in family businesses, church and the community. The decision was made by the family to maintain the property as a vacation rental, in order to share the wonderful location and setting with others for family gatherings and more.
Why The Miller Family chose Holmes County
Have we mentioned the views? They are spectacular. But just as important are the reasons behind the decision to make this property a vacation rental available to guests. There are no better memories in the Miller family than 10 grandchildren gathering together to play in Grandpa and Grandma's house. Sardines, shield dodgeball, winkum, hide and seek, tag, scavenger hunts, Baby Monkey and many other activities involving candy or running or hiding were the norm. Family music concerts, singing hymns, and Christmas dinner in the dining room were holiday traditions. Our family has made countless wonderful memories gathering together at Miller Manor. We hope that others may also experience family and friends in a peaceful setting that fosters growth and joy in relationships.
What makes this Country house/chateau unique
The peaceful setting of Miller Manor is remarkable. From the lovely bedrooms and large common areas inside the home where children and adults can relax and enjoy to the firepit in the front courtyard with a never ending view of rolling hills and frequent crimson sunsets, this is where you'll want to spend your time! It will be difficult to pull yourself away, however, there are many activities and ways to be entertained in the neighboring towns of Walnut Creek, Berlin, Sugarcreek and beyond. This is an area full of delights for all ages. Having a "home base" like Miller Manor will be a treat for all looking to get away from routine and the hustle and bustle of daily life. One of the owners shares a driveway with the Manor and is within view of the property. The owners are always happy to give recommendations of area attractions and restaurant suggestions. Birdwatching has become popular and the property adjacent to the Manor hosts over 25 different types of birds. A birding tour may be arranged. Miller Manor was recently featured in the book "100 Things to do in Ohio's Amish Country Before You Die" by Brandy Gleason.
