Beautiful Views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here back in Jan. This cabin was very spacious and accommodating. The kitchen was fully equipped. I liked the option of the cabin being pet-friendly and having the extra guest house to accommodate more guests if need be. The views from the cabin were amazing. We even got to see a little fox rolling around in the snow.

Owner's Response: We are thrilled you had a wonderful stay in Dubois. The cabin is a perfect for small groups (or large groups with use of the optional guest cabin) and the location is just right for national forest adventures or national park visits. You are correct - the views are amazing and we are glad you got to see them for yourself - hopefully while enjoying a nice cup of hot chocolate or coffee by the fire! Glad you received a visit from some of our local wildlife - just today there was a herd of about 500 elk on the hill out in front of the cabin. Vacations don't get much better than this and we sure hope you return to stay with us again....perhaps for a nice summer vacation this time! Both seasons are wonderful here. Until then, Happy Trails. a comfortable cabin

  • 4 of 5

we stayed here for five nights during the 3rd week of September, and we had snow, cold, wintry mix, clouds, snow, and more cold...so it colors our impression a little!

First, the cabin is very comfortable. The furniture is great for staying in, the beds & linens are nice. Wifi was totally reliable, the smart TV was excellent, and surprisingly, cell phone reception was great! Kitchen and baths have been recently updated with granite countertops and new appliances. Having the garage space was great for keeping our bikes (which we didn't use) and coolers. The view really is amazing - when we saw it on our last morning!

The downside of the cabin is that while parts are top-of-the-line and new, other bits need work. Windows are older - though double paned! and one of them was fogged up. There are few window coverings and no rugs, neither of which is fatal, they would just add a bit of hominess. The manager assures me that the cabin is a work in progress so I wouldn't let these things discourage me from renting again, it's just good to know.

The cabin is convenient to Dubois (Cowboy Cafe's pie IS that good) and nearby fishing and hiking. We drove up to Grand Tetons National Park one day - it's a beautiful drive, we only wished we'd have had the weather for it earlier. On the way out we drove through Yellowstone, which was great fun and not far. We'd planned to go to Jackson, where we couldn't afford to stay, but again....weather.

So. Really a good value, lots of good features, kind of a gem in the rough at the moment.

Oh. The road going up has some asphalt, some gravel, some dirt. If it's wet out (or snowy!) it'll make your car look like you've been off-roading in a mud pit. Kind of fun. We did see a magnificent bull elk on the far hill one day, through the binoculars.

Did I mention that it snowed while we were there?

Oh. One last thing. We were sent info from VRBO that said the cabin was unlocked, and on arriving, found a lockbox. DOUBLE-CHECK your info. The management was totally apologetic and immediately responsive.

Not what we expected

  • 1 of 5

Definitely check your emails closely. I received two separate addresses for two separate properties. One of which was the incorrect property I rented. The home we did rent is large and spacious. However, be cautious during the summer months. Warmer temperatures make the house uncomfortable. The lower basement has cooler temperatures but not the main floor or upstairs. Fans are provided but not adequate. This house is located a short distance from the town of Dubois and to the National Parks as described, but a longer distance from the entrance of Yellowstone Park. The home also needed a few repairs. Each day in every sink, I noticed a tint in the water. We were trying to enjoy the short time we had, and did not want to be spending it complaining to the owner or VRBO representatives. Phone service is poor, naturally. After a long day driving to Yellowstone, and returning back to the house my daughter was taking a bath and we noticed the water had a very brown tint. I immediately got her up to wash it off. The VRBO representative commented that they checked the water immediately after we left and saw no issues as well as no other guests having issues prior to our stay. I do not see how anyone else's alleged non issues with this property has to do with our negative issues with this property. There were many fire ants at the bottom of the stairs to the entrance of the house, a potential issue with children. There were many moths inside the house as well. Be aware you have to drive to the nearby fishing areas which is also listed. I corresponded with the VRBO representative who was very responsive but unfortunately could not resolve our negative experience. Overall, Yellowstone is beautiful and well worth the visit, we just did not have a good experience at this property.

Great Location..Gorgeous views!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location of the cabin, and the views are amazing!

Good space in the cabin, kitchen and bathrooms nicely updated.

However , there are a few things that needed to be updated or repaired.

The management company was very accommodating and pleasant to work with.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your review and wanted to let you know we're making new updates every week. We do hope you'll return next summer (or maybe come back for a winter snowmibling adventure). You'll love the new leaded glass front door, new steps leading to the main entry and new range, washer and dryer. it's been a work in progress to make the updates due to our packed summer - this cabin is one of the favorites on the mountain - great views and some of the lowest rates around. We look forward to seeing you again. PS...............returning guests receive a discount. Happy Trails, Wind River Property Group

The home was in need of some repair.

Owner's Response: Doug, we're happy that you enjoyed your stay. The home has been undergoing renovations since December and we're glad you got to enjoy the new furnishings throughout the house - everything was new for your stay and the current renovation rates are lower than most other properties in town. The owner is making updates in between guest stays and has recently been able to repair the door latch and add the bedroom door that had been damaged. There's even a new leaded glass front door to allow in more light and to offer more window space for admiring the views! We do hope you'll return and enjoy another summer or maybe a winter snowmobiling adventure. All returning guests receive a discount. Happy Trails. Warm Springs Retreat.

FANTASTIC HOME FOR OUR LARGE GROUP

  • 5 of 5

The loft and basement areas allowed space and privacy for all. We added the optional guest cabin, too. My elderly parents liked being so close to us while having a private, quiet space to retreat to at the end of the day. Day trips to Yellowstone and Grand Teton were easy and the drive over was breathtaking! We enjoyed hanging in Dubois - what a cute little cowboy town! We will definitely choose this home if we plan a return trip.
