For future guests, please note that whilst Garfagnana is mountainous and away from it all, buses move daily and lorries regularly, so the roads are fine for all size cars. The market town of Castelnuovo with all you need is less than a 10 mins drive; Barga just 25 mins; San Romano and the tree climbining/zip wire park 20 mins; various good restaurants within a 15 min drive ; Lucca 1 hour as examples. We do provide a detailed information pack to get the best out of the area, and Gragnanella is actually a really good location for exploring the Garfagnana itself too .

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed the property's location. We are, however, sorry that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. The decorative handle on the front door had unfortunately been damaged by the previous guests shortly before your arrival. As the door is operated using the key, it remained fully functional, and a replacement handle was fitted as soon as local shops reopened after the weekend. We also apologise that your apartment was not checked as thoroughly as it normally would have been before arrival. As you arrived significantly earlier than the agreed check-in time, the owner was still carrying out his usual final inspections. In welcoming you early, he unfortunately missed his final check of the apartment, including ensuring sufficient toilet paper had been left and carrying out one last inspection after cleaning. We sincerely apologise for this. Regarding the glasses, the property is equipped with approximately 60 glasses across the four kitchens. As larger groups often gather to eat together, glasses are frequently moved between apartments and occasionally not all have been returned to their original kitchens before arrival. We are sorry if this caused any inconvenience. The property comprises four self-contained apartments, each with its own kitchen and dishwasher. Just two days before the end of your two-week stay, one dishwasher out of the four developed a fault due to glass in the filter. As soon as this was reported, the owner attended immediately. As your group was using the communal kitchen and one of the larger apartments for meals, he immediately transferred the dishwasher from the smallest apartment so that the kitchens being used by your party continued to have working dishwashers while a replacement was obtained. Whilst any appliance failure is frustrating, every effort was made to minimise the inconvenience and ensure dishwasher facilities remained available for your last 1/2 days. When the showers were reported as draining slowly, the owner attended immediately and resolved the issue. We would also like to clarify that no concerns were raised during the stay regarding failed silicone seals, nor were any silicone repairs required. Had such a repair been necessary, the owner would, of course, have arranged it immediately. He was therefore very surprised to read that guests had apparently carried out silicone repairs themselves, as this was never mentioned to him and he completely disputes that this was necessary. The shower rooms you referred to do not have shower trays as they are also suitable for those using wheelchairs- they purely stick to the floor. The owner takes pride in maintaining the property and in responding quickly whenever guests need assistance and of course we were also available 24/7 should you have felt anything wasn't being resolved during your 2 week stay. Whilst we are genuinely sorry that your stay did not fully meet your expectations, and we appreciate your feedback we are confident that the owner remains committed to providing guests with a good standard of service and a lovely holiday. The owner has recently renovated with a brand new BBQ and wood oven area, and also an outdoor kitchen and he is now studying the possibility of a WC close to the pool too. Many guests like that the pool gets shady by late afternoon as they are fed up by the heat, but I fully understand. I am sorry you didn't find all the kitchen equipment but for the benefit of future guests, there is a cabinet in the kitchen with loads of cutlery in it for a few meals before needing to use the dishwasher. Other guests have mentioned this before, so I have asked the owner to point out where all the additional equipment is kept when guests arrive - hopefully he will remember to do so but if not, do ask. We went to inspect immediately we got your review, and some of the items detailed were in fact at the property but those that were not (including more wine glasses and larger towels) were purchased immediately for the comfort of subsequent guests - thank you for raising. . I am sorry you waited until you were home to raise these issues, since we are available all day every day to assist if there is anything missing in a property or any other problems (including communication if an owner has no English) and we would have ensured all the items missing were provided for you immediately. The property is a self catering property and provided at a very good price, so as per the Essential information sheet we sent you, kitchen supplies such as dishwasher tablets are not always left although an initial supply of toilet roll is always included. There was clearly a misunderstanding with the bed as all the beds were made up, but we were told that your group arrived with an additional guest who was not detailed on the booking form and there was no bed for them as the house is not advertised as sleeping more than 6 plus 2 . The owner was expecting 8 guests and 9 arrived...We understand the owner brought you an additional mattress, but had misunderstood that you bought your own linen for the unexpected guest. Again, we would have assisted with this issue if you had given us a quick call. So far as a weekly clean is concerned, I am afraid this is my fault - when I sent the original quote I erroneously calculated that your stay was for 2 full weeks. For a pro rata cost stay of less than 2 weeks we only offer cleaning at additional cost on request. A free weekly change and clean is offered as a matter of course for 2 weeks. I do wish you had called me since I would have arranged an immediate clean due to my error. Re the pool, we have never had an issue with this before - the owner is fully trained to clean the pool in accordance with health guidelines and a net is left for lifting insects between cleans. We have pool specialists on call for any pool problems guests may have... Anyway we are glad you enjoyed your stay overall and thank you for raising the issues you did which has enabled us to rectify missing items immediately. Best wishes Lorraine at tuscan-retreats
